ROUGH COLLIES.
Having been disappointed with the standard of the males in the breed over the past few years, I was very pleasantly suprised with the quality presented here.  My line up made me optimistic for the future and would have happily given several in the challenge top honours on another day.  Bitches presented a more mixed type, but I considered several before making my final choices.  Presentation on the whole was very good.  I was thrilled to award the Dog CC his crowning ticket, he simply stood out today, in gleaming coat and condition.  He gave a good account of himself in the BIS ring too.  The BPIB moved a dream in the same ring, and I was delighted to see her being awarded Reserve BPIS.  She continued to show herself off despite a long day.  This society awards a Best Junior in Show, and again thrilled that our representative was awarded Reserve BJIS.    Well done all.  A great day for Roughs!
PD – 3-0

  1.  Lockyers GATAJ I AM MAXIMUS 10mth tri, with a pleasing outline, stood and showed well.  Well moulded head, giving desired expression.  Well shaped eye correctly placed stop, well placed ears.  Balanced throughout with nice length of neck onto good shoulder angulation.  Well off for body, has the makings of a quality adult.  Moved soundly and positively.  BPD
  2. Kelly’s BALLAHANNA BETRAYED, another promising 10 mth s/w, well schooled. More mature than 1, lovely head properties, slight stop correctly placed, well shaped almond eyes, flat skull with well placed but heavier ears.  Good length of neck, onto well laid shoulders, well sprung ribs.  Good bone and body condition.  Well presented, moved out nicely, but not the drive of 1.

JD – 3-1

  1.  Hawkins & Foy BELDONES IVORY STAR.  14mth s/w with lovely clean lines and a good outline.  Head handles well with defined underjaw, lovely eye and expression.  Well placed stop, with flat skull, enough neck,  good shoulder placement which enabled him to stride out well, moving freely and confidently.  Balanced throughout, with good bone, well presented.  Nice ribs, good length of back, nice length of tail.  Delighted to see him go Reserve Best Junior in Show.  BJIB.
  2. McCarte’s ROUGHRIGG RAGS ‘N’ RICHES Very similar in profile to winner, and has lots of the attributes of his sire.  Today he was not settled, and this was reflected in his movement.  He has good bone, lovely feet, neat hocks.  Head has correct slight stop, parallel planes, topped with good ear carriage.  Nice length of back, well bent stifle, all covered in profuse coat in excellent condition.

YD  3-1

  1. Turner’s PAULARA BLAZE OF GLORY, a lovely dark sabe that really caught my eye, both here and in the challenge.  Considered him for top honours.  Balanced in outline, which is more defined with less coat, he has an excellent shape, good length of neck onto well laid shoulders, nice ribcage, flowing throughout.  Good bone lovely bend of stifle, neat hocks all topped off with excellent presentation.  Showed attentively, moved very well.  Being hypercritical, I would like him a shade bigger all round. 
  2. Lockyer's PRINCE OF SUNLIGHT THRILLED BY THE DIFFERENCE AT GATAJ (IMP.HUNG).  Another well boned dog, with good head properties, well placed stop, lovely almond shaped eyes, correctly placed ears that he used well.   Good shoulder placement, just lacked the reach of neck of winner, but has good length of back.  Moved out nicely, shown in good coat and condition, as were all from this kennel.

GD – 1

  1.  Waterhouse’s LYNMEAD ROYAL LOVER, S/W  shown in glorious coat and condition.  s/w of good make and shape, has excellent bone, the neatest of feet and hocks.  Not the easiest of showdogs, but shown sympathetically and calmly to bring out the best of him.  Has all the essentials, with good shoulder placement, lovely front, excellent spring of ribs, onto slight rise over the loins and sweeping tail.  His head is clean, lovely underjaw, soft moulding to foreface, well placed stop, parallel lines with flat skull.  Used his ears enough, giving a gentle expression.  Balanced height/length ratio, with good reach of neck.  When settled he strode out well, totally relaxed by the challenge and seriously considered for the CC.  Would probably benefit from being outdoors, and today had to be content with the RCC.  Very unlucky that the eventual ticket winner was on such fine form.

PGD – 4-0

  1.  Mitchell & Jordan’s AVONFAIR ALOYSIS JW.  Glamorous s/w with immaculate presentation, another that benefits from a little less coat.  Well off for bone and in excellent condition with lovely balanced head and melting expression.  Has a good underjaw, good moulding to foreface with no flaring, well placed stop, sweet dark eyes and used his ears well.  Would like them a little tighter.  Has enough neck, with good shoulder angulation, enabling him to stride out well, well shaped ribs, onto strong back end.  Well bent stifle, parallel neat hocks.  Lovely outline when standing, moved well enough.  Easy winner of this class.
  2. Houlihan’s KOURIKA FROSTED ICE, b/m with a good outline when standing, pleasant head with dark almond shaped eyes, neatly placed ears and depth of head.  Has enough neck, nice length of back, sturdy legs.  Needs to concentrate with the job in hand as was fidgety both standing and on the move.  Would like feet a better shape, and is a bit loose on the move.  Good presentation.
  3. Penachio’s MALOULINES NEVER ENDING STORY

LD – 4-0

  1.  Hassock’s CAMANNA CELLMATE.  profusely coated, with good presentation.  Balanced head, with nice underjaw, well placed stop.  Nice parallel head, with flat skull, topped with ears that he used well. Maturing well, he has good construction, well placed shoulders, shapely body.  Moved out well for both of his handlers, another I took a long look at in the challenge, felt his best days are yet to come.
  2. Brodie’s SHANABURN COUNTRY ROAD, at that in-between stage, but immaculately presented to make the most of himself.  Nice expression from well shaped eye, correct stop and nicely carried ears.  Good length of neck and back, with good bone.
  3. Fathing’s DIDEK ONCE IN A BLUE MOON

Od – 2-0

  1.  Hodges’ JOPIUM LOVE ON THE ROCKS. Tri in the most tip top of condition, jet black coat just gleaming, whites were whiter than white, and no hair out of place.  His head handles well, equal foreface to flat backskull, nicely placed stop with dark almond eyes.  No signs of flaring or coarseness.  Flowing lines from good length of neck into lovely shoulder placement, well sprung ribs and sturdy rear end.  Strode out well enough with his handler.  Not overly impressed with being here in this class, but rose to the occasion in the challenge, pulled himself up and moved a dream.  Could not deny him the CC, his third on such sparkling form.  Made a good account of himself in the BIS ring.
  2. Lockyer’s CH. GATAJ TURN BACK TIME JW.  The temperament of this dog is second to none, he is such a happy friendly lad.  To me, he has yet to reach his prime (despite already having his title).  His head properties are so endearing, lovely moulding with a sweet expression, ears always used well.  Flows from lovely length of neck, onto good body shape, lovely front.  Good spring of ribs to gentle rise over the loin. Has a good bend of stifle, nice parallel hocks and lovely length to that ever wagging tail.  Moved out freely and with ease, deserves his title and I really feel not yet reached maturity. Appeared to be inbetween coats, and could not compete in this department with the winners. Called in for the RCC but had to bow to the two lads in full coat and condition.  This is the temperament and personality to strive for when breeding. 

VD – 2-0

  1. Watt’s CULBRAE RED AGAIN, only just a veteran at 7 years, shown in good coat and condition.  Balanced in construction, for me he is just a little fine in head, having said that he has lovely eyes, but ears a little heavy.  Good presentation, moved well.
  2. Proctor’s WILMARANNA OUT OF THE BLUE FOR CATHBRI, 8 ½ yrs blue merle of heavier type.  Showed well, but needs attention paying as he can stand a tad cow hocked at times.  Strode out well enough.

MPB – 3-0

  1.  Mitchell & Jordan’s AARONWELL ANOTHER DREAM FOR AVONFAIR.  Very sweet tri of 7 ½ mths.  Caught my eye instantly for her overall shape and immaculate presentation.  She has a correct head, well balanced very pretty expression.  Loved her eyes, well shaped dark almond, neat ears that she used well, well placed stop, all adding to her sweetness.  Very good reach of neck, good shoulder placement, very shapely ribcage with a good length of back, gentle rise over the loin and lovely sweeping tail.  Moved out well in this class, but in the challenged turned into a sniffer dog!
  2. Kerr’s SALSINA LOVE ME DO, lovely s/w with good outline in profile.  Has a well proportioned head, well set eyes, good stop, well placed ears which are unfortunately a little light, thus spoiling her expression.  good length of neck, well sprung ribs.  Very full of herself on the move, but went well enough.  excellent presentation.  Best Special Beginner.
  3. Haslam-Craib's GAIA FROM ANGELS PATH (IMP HRU)

PB – 3-0
Three lovely pups that could (and probably will) change places many times.

  1.  Lockyer’s GATAJ ALL THAT GLITTERS.  Appealed for her overall outline, and showmanship.  Stood correctly every time I glanced at her.  Very good head properties, nicely shaped wedge, with good underjaw.  Well placed stop, sweetest of eyes and good placement of ears which were nicely tipped.  Excellent presentation enhancing her body shape, good length of neck and adequate bone and neat feet & hocks.  Strode out well, very steady on the move.  Delighted to award her BPB, BPIB and the RBCC.  Fabulous to see her go through to RBPIS.
  2. Hodges JOPIUM FOLLOW MY HEART, close run with winner, my notes are almost identical.  Ears a shade lighter, and just a little less neck.  Another with excellent presentation, moved in unison with handler.
  3. Brodie’s SHANABURN MIDNIGHT KISSES.

  1.  Jopium Follow My Heart
  2. Watts CULBRAE CHARMED AGAIN.  Nicely headed bitch, who showed well.  Dark almond eye, good ear carriage.  Good length of neck, well laid shoulders, good overall body shape.  Let down by a weaker backend both standing and on the move.

YB – 1-0

  1.  Lockyer’s UNE COQUETTE DU DOMAINE DES EMERAUDES GATAJ (IMP FRA).  Pleasant girl of 2yrs.  Has a lovely b/m colour, well broken up.  Pretty head, with slight stop, dark eyes and well placed ears, all giving a sweet expression.  Very attentive to handler.  She has a good length of neck, nice front, and well shaped body.  tended to tuck herself under, which spoiled her overall shape.  Needs a bit more confidence to project herself more.  Moved out well in front, could improve on the rear. 

GB – 7-1

  1.  Hutching’s RIVERSIDE SONG THRILLS OF NIGHT AT SCOTTYRE (IMP ROM).  Nicely shaped tri, with a pretty head, well shaped dark eye, defined stop.  Carries her ears a little low and reluctant to use them.  She has a good length of neck and back.  Well boned, with neat feet.  Nicely coated which was well presented.  Moved out purposefully & quietly, easy winner of this class.
  2. Proctors DIDEK MOONSHINE FOR CATHBRI.  Similar in profile to winner, but smaller in stature.  Nice head and expression, used ears well.  Good overall body shape, moved out well, just preferred size and substance of winner.
  3. Sibbald’s PAULARA PICTURE PERFECT FOR TELFORTH.

PGB – 4-0

  1.  Hodges UNUSUAL BEAUTY DES CONQETES DE DON JUAN AT JOPIUM JW.  Eye-catching b/m with lovely make and shape.   Excellent construction, balanced throughout.  Good reach of neck, well laid shoulders, well sprung ribs.  Head handles well with good underjaw, well placed stop, and almond shaped dark eyes.  Excellent bone, neatest of feet.  Presentation first class.  Be interested to see her when in full maturity.
  2. Penachio’s GENTLE IMAGE CHAMPAGNE TIME (IMP GER).   Sweet s/w who was reluctant to show herself off, but when she did, has a correct expression, with lovely eye shape and placement, carries ears well, nicely tipped.  Well presented, her lack of white hides her good length of neck.  Well boned, with neat feet, well let down hocks.  Critically, a tad overweight.
  3. Hobkirk CHANTIQUE SUGAR MOON

LB – 9-3

  1.  Hawkins & Foy BELDONES MAGICAL BLISS, shaded s/w with an appealing shape, who showed well.  Pleasing head, nice soft moulding, correctly placed stop, lovely eyes.   Would like ears a little lighter to give a better picture.  Lovely lenght of neck, onto shapely body, covered with well presented coat.  Moved out confidently, front and rear.
  2. Lockyer’s GATAJ ALL THAT SPARKLES.  Initially thought she would be my class winner.  Liked her overall shape, being balanced in profile, well off for bone on lovely tight feet and neat hocks.  Nice head properties, with slight stop, well shaped eye and flat skull.  moved out well but began to fidget both standing and on the move   Well presented.
  3. Haslam-Craib's ROUGHRIGG RAGGA

OB – 2-0

  1.  McCarte’s ROUGHRIGG REMEMBER ME.  Appealed for her clean lines, well defined head properties with lovely underjaw, soft moulding, free from any flaring.  Well placed stop, sweet dark eye, well placed ears which she used well.  Parallel planes with flat skull.  Flowing lines down her neck, onto well angulated shoulders, good spring of ribs, nice rise of the loin.  Well bend stifle and parallel hocks, sweeping tail.  Liked her fitting coat, which was well presented.  Moved enthusiastically and a tad exuberant in the challenge!  Calmed a tad when moved again, and I was pleased to award her the CC, her 2nd.  Interestingly, I awarded her brother the RCC last time I judged.   In the challenge for BOB, felt the male on such gleaming form and steady movement couldn't be denied.
  2. Kelly’s SAMHAVEN SISTER SARA WITH BALLAHANNA.  Appealing s/w with exceptional bone & substance.   Shown in fine condition, coat well presented.  Pleasant head, well placed stop.  For me, ears a little wide.  Bodywise, good shoulders and a shapely body.  Failed in movement to winner.

  2. MacDonald’s BRILYN LOOK AT ME FOR FARALIYA . Nicely made bitch, moved ok.  For me, her ears were too heavy and she is a tad strong.  Nicely presented.

  1.  Acford’s CONEYPARK MATTIE BROWN.   Nicely made s/w with good bone, neat feet.  Has a good length of neck onto well laid shoulders and lovely shapely ribcage.  Good rise over the loin, well bent stifle.  Pleasing head, nice expression, for me a sweeter eye would enhance the expression, but he has good ear carriage and placement.  Shown in good condition, showed well, and moved out nicely.  Best Dog

  1.  Coneypark Mattie Brown.

PB – 3-0

  1.  Watkins BLAMORDER UNLUCKY FOR SOME.  Lovely tri, so very feminine.  Has a sweet expression lovely moulded foreface well shaped dark eyes, slight stop in correct place.  Nicely placed ears which she used well.   Good strong neck into well placed shoulders, with well shaped ribcage.  Good length of back and lovely bend of stifle.  Moved out really well to win this class over her sister.  BB, BOB BPIB, BJIB, BSBIB.  Not so unlucky for this exhibitor who went home with an armful of rosettes!
  2. Davies-Brown's BLAMORDER I DREAMED A DREAM AT WYSTRY.  Slightly heavier than her sister, but same lovely body shape. Liked her head, which was balanced, although her ears a tad light.  Shown in lovely coat and condition, moved well RBB.
  3. Proctors MIGHTY’S SPRING MEADOW YEVA YUNA AT STIOSAN
