LKA Rough Collies
My thanks to the ladies of the LKA for the invite to judge, and many thanks also for accommodating us in the Margaret Everton Pavilion, which was a great bonus for all dogs and exhibitors. With the large, carpeted ring, there was no excuse for any dog not to move. There was a great atmosphere and camaraderie between both rough and smooth exhibitors.
I was pleased with the quality of the entry in both breeds, except for one or two. It was also gratifying, and I was immensely pleased, to see both my Best of Breeds being shortlisted in a strong Pastoral Group. Congratulations.
A quality entry awaited me, as always, quality not quantity.
Minor Puppy Dog
1st Lockyers – Gataj Just Like Jesse James – What a lovely baby to start the day. It was just like “turning back time”. A confident sable/white youngster, full of promise, beautifully turned out with a lovely make and shape. A refined head, with a beautiful well-placed dark eye, nicely filled in foreface with ears on top, giving him the sweetest expression. Ample neck on good shoulders, leading onto a good length of back with good quarters. He moved soundly fore and aft for one so young. Reminded me so much of his champion sire, who I awarded the CC to when he was just 13 months old, and I have no doubt he has a bright future ahead of him also. I did consider him for the RCC and had no hesitation in awarding him BPIB.
2nd Blaikie – Kourika Dancing On Ice – Beautifully turned out blue baby in a good colour blue coat, full of confidence. His head handled well, nicely filled foreface, two dark eyes with neat ears, a lovely conformation with a good front, ample bone, neat feet. He just needs to tighten up a bit on the back and should go far.
3rd Morey – Brookynut Clyde Barrow
Puppy Dog
1st Congdon – Aaronwell Ask The Question – And he did. Nicely put together sable, put down to the nines. Balanced all over with a lovely headpiece. Sweet expression, good neck, leading on to a good body, with a good front and nicely let down at the rear. Moved soundly.
2nd Lockyers – I Got You Babe – Another lovely sable/white, but of different type to the first. Sired by the same sire as Jesse James and classically marked, with a beautifully presented sable coat. Lovely refined head with a sweet expression. Good neck, body and good quarters, ample bone and neat feet. Again a sound mover. Very little between first and second and no doubt they will change places many times.

Junior Dog
1st Randall – Ladnar Call My Name JW – This is the nicest blue dog from this kennel I have seen in a while. It is no wonder he has done the winning he has and I am sure that he is destined for the upper house. A coat of the correct colour and perfectly balanced all over. Beautiful head with the darkest of eyes, good stop and ears on top, with the sweetest expression that is hard to get on a blue. He was presented in good hard condition, well muscled and could certainly do a day’s work.
Yearling Dog
1st Randall – Ladnar Call Me Maybe – Hard to believe that he is litter brother to Junior Dog, but he is a lovely make and shape and in good condition, with a good coloured coat. Just does not have the charisma of his brother for me.
Post Graduate Dog
1st Spendelow – Uffspring Undeniable – A lovely blue boy who to me has everything going for him, but unfortunately he doesn’t seem to think so!! He has a beautiful head with an expression to die for, a lovely neck leading onto a good length of back with a good front, nice turn of stifle with short hocks and neat feet, and such a sound mover, covering the ground with such ease. Presented in a wealth of correctly coloured blue coat, nicely marbled with black. Please persevere with him as he is so much worth it.
2nd Farthing – Didek Once In A Blue Moon – Another blue of correct colour but of different type to the first, and just about to drop coat. He is balanced all over with a lovely front and nicely let down at the rear. Head handled well with a sweet expression, well off for bone, neat feet and he too moved soundly.
3rd Toogood – Hanvale Ralph Lauren JW
Limit Dog
1st Blaikie – Kourika The Gigolo – Another lovely blue of correct colour and coat, again put down to the nines. Lovely make and shape with good conformation, nice deep chest with plenty of heart room. Ample neck, level topline which he held on the move. His head handled well, nicely filled in foreface with a good underjaw and stop. Lovely well-placed dark eye and neat ears, sweet expression.
2nd Collins – Triburle The Joker – Sable/White who was presented in lovely condition, balanced all over. Head is refined with a sweet and masculine expression. Good body and front and nicely let down at the rear. Ample bone and neat feet enable him to move well.
3rd Pullin – Barrenclough Diamond Dawn at Myjacks

A lovely class of quality males, which I could have awarded the CC to any one of them.
1st Foy and Hawkins – Ch Beldones Ivory Star – To me this young sable boy is as near perfect to the breed standard as can be. His parents were bred by some of the very few established successful breeders of the breed still actively showing today. He epitomises the breed standard, with no exaggerations and not overdone in any way. Today’s breeders should take note of him. There is nothing that I can add that has not been said before about him; his fluent action and quality say it all. I was pleased to award him the CC and BOB, and the icing on the cake was that the Pastoral Group judge also appreciated his qualities by shortlisting him in a very strong group. Congratulations, keep going.
2nd Wall – Ch & Int Ch Daliyhaa Master Craftsman An Ch 24 Cw – Upstanding quality tricolour who is different in type to the first and well deserving of all his titles. An art in presentation; his black coat shined and his whites gleamed. Head is shorter than I like, and I found him just a tad deep through. Good neck and conformation, with good quarters fore and aft, and he moved soundly. RCC

1st Boyle – Barrenclough Heart Of Gold JW ShCEx OSW – A sprightly eight-and-a-half-year sable who was well presented, belying his age, and enjoying his day out. Good make and shape, and he moved soundly around the ring.

2nd Morey – Brookynut Clyde Barrow – A lovely six-month baby, so enjoying himself, which was lovely to see. Nice size for his age, and presented in a wealth of freshly groomed sable coat. Head is coming along nicely with a pleasing expression. Only needs to tighten in movement, which he should do as he matures.
Minor Puppy Bitch
1st Blaikie – Kourika Stay With Me – A beautiful six-and-a-half-month tri baby enjoying her day out. Full of confidence. Coat is jet black and beautifully presented, and just nice for size. She has the sweetest expression from two lovely dark eyes and never took her eyes off her handler. Movement a bit loose as one would expect at this age, but that will come with age.
2nd Toogood – Yvaine Angel Silvestre at Hagneetat (Imp Bel) – Another lovely sable/white baby put down to the nines. Sympathetically handled to get the best out of her. A little more confidence and she will get there.

A lovely class headed by:
1st Ware – Millubie Parachute Over to Wassail (Imp Serb) TAF – Nicely put together sable/white, presented in a well-groomed correct textured coat with a refined head, nicely filled in foreface with two lovely dark eyes, correct stop and neat ears giving her the sweetest expression. A nice reach of neck, length of back and good quarters, with just the right amount of bone. Neat feet, and so sound on the move for one so young. BPB
2nd Lockyer – Your Majesty Angel Silvestre at Gataj (Imp Bel) – Another lovely sable/white baby put down to the nines from this kennel. She really pushed the first hard and many of her attributes refer to her.

Junior Bitch
1st Gautrey – Chantique Pixie Ring – I really liked this young sable/white with a lovely make and shape and nicely balanced. In good coat which was well presented, head handled well with a pleasing expression. She moved well, covering the ground with ease.
2nd Gatt – Wicani Belladonna for Bearven – A tri presented in good jet black coat which was beautifully groomed. Balanced all over, head handled well; I just preferred the expression of first.
Yearling Bitch
1st Foy and Hawkins – Beldones Rich Velvet – Classically marked fourteen-month sable/white in good coat which was well presented. Head handled well with a pleasing expression, but would have liked ears a bit tighter. Good body, with a good front and turn of stifle. Neat hocks and feet enabled her to move well, covering the ground with ease.
2nd White – Corydon Crystal Aglitter – A lovely shaded sable/white who pushed first hard. Balanced all over, in good condition, good body, pleasing expression, good quarters, neat feet and she also moved well.
3rd Williams – Essanjay Heart Breaker

Two lovely bitches, different but both equal in quality.
1st Lockyers – Gataj Exotic Girl – Just my cup of tea, not overly done and put down to the nines, not a hair out of place. Perfectly balanced and such femininity, with the sweetest expression coming from a refined and elegant head. Possessing two nicely shaped dark eyes, ample stop and two neat ears which she continuously used to give her a melting expression. Good front with a turn of stifle, ample bone and neat feet combined to give her fluent movement. I had no hesitation in awarding her the CC.
2nd Growcott – Chantique Sent From Heaven For Lillyway – My surprise of the day. I really thought to myself that I had never seen this lovely bitch before, and was quite surprised later when told who she was!! She was so unlucky to come up against Exotic Girl, and she ran her hard. Beautifully presented sable/white in good coat and condition, again balanced with elegance and a refined head with an exquisite expression. She too was a lovely mover and never put a foot wrong. On this performance her day will come. RCC
3rd Ablett – Siluto Misteriously Blue

1st Walders – Hanvale Patsy Stone JW – Two-and-a-half-year-old bitch just coming into her own, and so perfectly schooled. Not too overdone, with a balanced head and sweetest of expressions. Her sable/white coat was groomed to perfection. Good quarters and ample bone with neat feet enabled her to stride out well. Another whose day will come.
2nd Farthing – Aldreen Illusion in Blue for Didek – A lovely mature blue with the correct colour coat, which was groomed to perfection. In good hard condition and very elegant looking. Head handled well with a nicely filled in foreface. Ample stop and a lovely dark eye, and neat ears which she continuously used, giving her the sweetest expression, and she moved soundly fore and aft.
3rd Ablett – Siluto Misteriously Blue

Again a quality class to judge, headed by:
1st Llewellyn – Avonfair Secret Love Letter to Salsina – A lovely sable/white bitch shown in full coat which was groomed to perfection, not a hair out of place. Perfectly balanced with elegance and refinement. Head is lovely with an exquisite expression on a lovely neck with good shoulders and length of back. A good front and well-bent stifles and short hocks, and moved well.
2nd Growcott – Lillyway Lemon Breeze – This lovely tricolour bitch won her placing here today on her fluent movement. She could certainly do a day’s work on the hills. Just lacking a bit of coat to complete the picture, otherwise a lovely make and shape and so well schooled.
3rd Lockyer – Gataj All That Sparkles
Good Citizen Bitch
1st Boyle – Timeless Destiny Star Actis Over Barrenclough JW – Two-and-a-half-year-old with a lovely make and shape, presented in good harsh coat and moved soundly.
2nd Procter – Didek Moonshine for Cathbri – Tricolour presented in a lovely jet black coat which sparkled. Although a lovely make and shape and quite elegant, I would have preferred a bit more of her all over.
3rd Jacksons – Chantique Tickety Boo
Special Beginners Bitch
1st Gautrey – Carristina Summer Rhapsody – A very elegant sable/white beautifully presented with a lovely headpiece and the sweetest of expressions. Balanced all over with good quarters, and in full bloom. She too moved well across the ring and well deserved her win. BSB
2nd Dix – Gataj First Crush at Treweek – Another very feminine sable/white who is at that in-between age, but is so lovely and a confident youngster. Again balanced with a refined head, giving her a sweet expression. Another that is sound on the move and so attentive to her handler.
3rd Toogood – Yvaine Angel Silvestre at Hagneetat (Imp Bel)
