ROUGH COLLIE DOGS
I would like to thank the officers and the committee of the Collie Association for their invitation to judge Rough Collie Dogs at their Sub Group Championship Show held Sunday 23rd November 2025 at The Kennel Club Building (West Hall) Stoneleigh Park, Stoneleigh, Kenilworth.
Special thanks also to my two able stewards – Julie Edwards and Derek Farthing and further thanks to the hardworking ladies in the catering department.
On the whole I found the majority of the exhibits showing under me to be sound and in accord with the current breed standard but my biggest fault presented was weak rear movement primarily caused by, in my opinion, inadequate hard surface exercise.
My Dog CC Winner and Res BOB came from a very strong Open Dog Class as did my Res CC winner … both high quality examples of the Rough Collie (Male) today.
CLASS 1 – Veteran Dog (2 – 1)
1st – Boyles “Barrenclough Heart Of Gold”
Stood alone in the class – an 8 yr old S/W in good coat and condition, well balanced conformation, clean well shaped head with a good dark eye and neat ear carriage. Was well presented and handled and moved soundly around the ring.
CLASS 2 – Minor Puppy Dog (5 – 5)
1st – Lockyer’s “Gataj Just Like Jesse James”
A 7 month S/W puppy with a well fitting sable coat that complimented his conformation perfectly. Clean head with well placed dark eye and excellent ear carriage all combining to produce that that desired male collie expression. Very mature for his age and very well handled, Moved soundly for one so young. Was very pleased to see him awarded Best Rough Collie puppy .. One with quite a future I portend.
2nd – Johnston’s “ Paulara Ocean Raine at Geosamka”
A Blue Merle quite mature for 8 1/2 months old another with a sound balanced conformation and the coat well broken in colour. Clean wedge shaped head good ear carriage and a nice dark eye all combing to present a pleasing expression. Well handled and presented – moved soundly with drive.
3rd – Tipper’s “Tiganlea Thumb A Ride”
4th - Congdon’s “Aaronwell Asks The Question”
5th – Blaikie’s “Kourika Dancing On Ice”
CLASS 3 – Puppy Dog (0)

1st – Tipper’s “Tiganlea Turned To Black”
A Tri-Colour that stood alone with well balanced conformation in a good black coat that fitted the outline. Clean head properties with well shaped and placed dark eye and neat ear carriage. Moved with drive and handled and presented very well.
CLASS 6 Novice Dog (3 – 3) – 2 seen
1st – Johnston’s “Paulara Ocean Raine At Geosamka”
2nd – Congdon’s “Aaronwell Asks The Question “
7 month old S/W from minor puppy – good balance conformation stood and showed well clean head moved soundly enough, Well handled and presented.
3rd – Primmer’s “Winner of Dreams Angel Silvestre At Silvestre” (Imp – Bel)
CLASS 7 Graduate Dog (1 – 1)
1st – Shorten’s “Thistlewings Andromeda At Bracoisla”
A big upstanding S/W in good coat and condition Excellent balanced conformation with well proportioned head nice expression Good ear carriage. Presented well as he was quite a handful but somewhat weak with his rear movement.
CLASS 8 Post Graduate Dog (4 – 4)
1st – Dawson’s “Gemheid Chestnut”
S/W in good coat and condition with a well balanced head – neat ear carriage and was well handled and presented. Moved well but was too happy with his tail which was set correctly despite it being continually waved to the crowd.
2nd – Turner’s “Paulara Blaze Of Glory”
Another S/W in good coat and condition. Handled well with neat balanced head and expression. Good ear carriage moved well enough but the rear end was weak hence the movement was not totally sound.
3rd – Gelder’s “ Libanel Erebus Eternal Love”
4th – Skinner’s “Ladnar Makeithappen For Nikal”
CLASS 9 Mid Limit Dog (3 – 3)
1st – Toogood’s “Hanvale Ralph Lauren”
A well balanced S/W in a good fitting coat of correct texture. Good clean head with well placed ears a dark correctly shaped eyes all combining to present a very pleasant masculine expression. Very well handled and presented and moved soundly with the required drive.
2nd – Spendelow’s “Uffspring Undeniable”
A very pleasant Blue Merle in good coat and condition. The colour was well broken. Neat well placed ears with the required dark correctly shaped eyes providing the masculine expression. Moved reasonably well but was weak in the thigh muscles so the rear movement was lacking in drive,
3rd – Ross’s “Siluto Blue Wizzard at Amberwish”
CLASS 10 Limit Dog (3 – 3)
1st – Blaikie’s “Kourika The Gigolo”
An excellently presented Blue Merle with a well balanced conformation in a coat of the correct texture and broken colour. Clean well balanced head properties good reach of neck and a very pleasant masculine expression when his neatly placed ears were used. Well handled and presented moved soundly enough but his rear end movement was a little too close for me.
2nd – Harris’ “Geosamka Loves To Love At Ithilien”
A S/W with a good conformation and a neat clean head with good ear carriage and dark well shaped eyes. Nice expression and very well presented and handled, Moved soundly enough but needs to tighten up on rear end movement.
3rd – Parnham’s “Caribbean Blue Sky Actis To Samante (Imp - Poll)
CLASS 11 Open Dog (7 – 7)
1st – Hawkins & Foy’s “Ch. Beldones Ivory Star”
A S/W with excellent balanced conformation and in perfect body shaping coat all topped off with a correct head, a good dark eye and neatly placed ears which he could use to show off his delightful masculine expression. Stood four square when showing and highlighting his excellent reach of neck. Moved effortlessly around the ring with the required drive and was very well handled and presented .. Was awarded the Dog CC
2nd – Hodges “Ch. Jopium Love On The Rocks”
A Tri colour with very similar qualities to the class winner. Excellent head properties giving a very desirable masculine expression – neat well placed ears and good dark eye. In excellent black coat of correct colour and texture and he moved effortless around the ring. It was a tough decision to choose between these two and was awarded the Res Dog CC.
3rd – Wall’s “Daliyhaa Master Craftsman”
4th – Cronk’s “Chelborn That’ll Do”
5th – Lockyer’s “Very Special Angel Silverstre At Gataj (Imp Bel)
CLASS 12 Special Beginners (4 – 4)
