Yorkshire Collie Dogs - 8th September 2024

I would like to thank the officers and committee of the Yorkshire Collie Club for the honour of judging males at their recent championship show. A huge thankyou to my able stewards and to all the exhibitors for your entries, without your support there would be no show. A super outdoor venue with lovely big rings, although the weather forecast wasn't great we faired better than expected and judging was only held up for one brief shower. I had some
quality dogs before me especially in the higher classes although was disappointed to note dirty teeth even in some younger exhibits and the quality of presentation was sadly lacking. If the coat has lifted then why leave it in, we enter shows to showcase our dogs, the least we can do is present them at their best.

Veteran (4;1)
1st Steven’s Cariadhaf Crazy Dream; almost 10 yr s/w presented in super condition and looking good for age, Clean head although would prefer more moulding to foreface, enough stop, slightly fuller in eye but has a kind intelligent expression. Decent neck, correct length to height ratio and well bent stifles. Moved freely and showed well today . BVD
2nd Boyle’s Barrenclough Diamond Days JW; 8 yr s/w, another lovely collie gentleman who is shorter coupled than winner but also in good muscular condition, lovely head piece, correct almond eye shape and neat ears. Ribs are well sprung although I felt he could carry a little more body. Covered the ground well .
3rd Bartram’s King of the Ring

1st Lockyers Gataj Perfect Timing; 7 month s/w, beautifully presented pup, quite mature for age, all in proportion, lovely reach of neck, well laid back shoulders and correct length of back. Clean head pattern, decent underjaw and correct stop. Nice eye and expression, used ears well although they could be set higher. Moved soundly.
2nd Foy and Hawkins Beldones Ivory Star; shaded sable, very promising pup of just 6 months, head is of good length and with good underjaw, neat ears which enhanced his expression. Has an elegant outline with super reach of neck and correct angulation. Well presented, just not as mature as the winner.
3rd Telfords Beldones Diamond Touch for Glenbowdene

1st Lockyers Gataj Lewis Capaldi; 10 month s/w, another well presented pup from this kennel, a touch more masculine with a balanced outline, super reach of neck , well bent stifles and moved with drive on strong well let down hocks. Covered the ground well just needs to tighten in front movement. Clean head, masculine but sweet expression, enhanced by super ear carriage. BPB BPIB followed by BPIS well done
2nd Tipper’s Tiganlea Turned to Black; 10 month tri in lovely coat and condition, balanced head, lovely moulding to foreface, just needs to clean in stop, nice dark eye, ears are a tad wide but he used them well, I feel richer tan markings would enhance his expression. Lovely make and shape, strong neck and good bone, super rear drive on the move, Close decision res BPD, and res BPIS

JD (4;1)
1st Brooker’s Starlenga all about Magic for Corisian; 14 month shaded s/w, lovely moulding to foreface, well set dark almond shape eyes, super ear carriage which enhanced his lovely expression. Good length of neck, correct forechest and decent layback of shoulder, would prefer a tad more length of back. Nice bone, hocks are well let down, moved well from the rear , slightly loose in front, Beautifully presented.
2nd Lockyer’s Salsina Red Hot Crush with Gataj; well presented s/w just out of puppy, would prefer a little more of him all over but he is in proportion. Balanced head, needs to clear in stop but has well set eyes and showed to advantage. Strong neck, decent spring of rib, well angulated rear and good muscle tone. Moved out well from behind.
3rd Turners Paulara Blaze of Glory
GD ( 4;0)
1st Ross Siluto Blue Wizard at Amberwish; 21 month b/m, had the best outline in this class, lovely reach of neck and well laid back shoulder, would prefer more masculinity throughout and a touch more bone. Has a nice earset and a rich tan , would prefer more moulding to foreface. Correct harsh texture to coat but colour needs to clear.
2nd Farthings Didek Once in a Blue Moon; 20 month b/m, masculine throughout with good bone, balanced head with nice dark eyes, ears are set a tad wide Coat was well groomed and of good clear colour, not as positive on the move as winner and a little proud of his tail.
3rd Penachio Malouine’s Never Ending Story

1st Collin’s Triburle the Joker; 20 month golden sable in lovely condition, maturing nicely, balanced in profile , although I would prefer him a bit more masculine throughout. Clean head , topped with neat ears, correctly placed stop, enough neck and decent length of back, moved steadily when settled in his stride.
2nd Hassock’s Camanna Cellmate; 20 month richly coloured sable, in profuse coat of good texture. First impression he appears to lack a reach of neck but it is masked by coat. A mature dog for age, ribs are well spring , decent length of back , well bent stifles and strong bone. His head is of good length with correct planes and lovely expression. A little unsettled on the move today and I felt he was carrying a little too much weight.
3rd Dix Barrenclough Diamond Skies

LD ( 10;2)
1st Collin’s Triburle Blue Bolero; 3 yr b/m, I know its a cliche but this dog does need to be handled to be appreciate his qualities. Upstanding dog, no mistaking his sex, has an elegant outline, super reach of neck, good length of back and well bent stifles. Clean head planes with no depth or flaring, although would prefer a touch more moulding to foreface, enough stop, obliquely set dark eye of good shape, not a born showman but has lovely expression when he uses his ears. Moved freely although would prefer stronger bone and hocks to give him more drive. Well presented and carries a wealth of coat of correct harsh texture RCC
2nd Howard’s, Newton and Patterson Ladnar Dreamchaser; 3 yr b/m, a quality male who is masculine throughout and with good bone. Super outline with good angulation front and rear, strong arched neck and well sprung ribs. Balanced head, enough stop , although his ears are a little light they are well set . Super character to this happy dog, moved steadily, just a little proud of his tail.
3rd Cronk’s Chelborn’s Gambling list

OD ( 9;2)
1st Foy and Hawkins Beldones Rocket Man ; 3 yr s/w who presents the complete picture, to nit pick i would prefer a touch more masculinity overall but he is proportionate and balanced. Head is clean with correct underjaw, well placed stop, lovely expression from almond shaped eyes, correct ear carriage, stood and showed with impassive dignity on a loose lead. . Strong neck leading to well laid back shoulders, enough spring of rib and good turn of stifle. On the move he had super rear drive and covered the big ring with ease. Beautifully presented. CC , BOB and ultimately BIS well done.
2nd Lockyers Gataj Turn Back Time JW; 2 yr golden s/w, slightly smaller in size to winner and would prefer stronger bone, but he is well constructed. Balanced head, flares a little through the cheeks, lovely eye shape and set with super ear carriage. Wel arched neck, good length of back, well angulated front and rear. Moved soundly, covering the ground well. Not in full coat but was well presented.
3rd Blaikie’s Ch Kourika you’ll do for Me
