West of England Collie Society Championship Show – 21st July 2024

Smooth Collies
Thankyou to the committee for inviting me to judge at their 75th anniversary championship show and the exhibitors for a super entry – I thoroughly enjoyed my day. Thank you to my stewards for keeping everything running smoothly. Some of the decisions were very close with some excellent class winners.

Veteran Dog (1,0)

  1. Denton - Ch Brackenhaye Fields Of Gold – a quality dog I have often admired form the ringside. Nice head of correct length, good length of body, well angulated front & rear with good bone. Moved with easy reach of stride.

Puppy Dog (2,0)

  1. Acford - Coneypark Mattie Brown - s&w dog, nice head, but a little wide for me. Good length of back, moved quite well when settled. Happy character.
  2. Howard & Fort - Shulune Imperial Inkheart with Casatentola – b/m dog, not quite as strong in head as 1st. Good length of body, lost out on movement. Colour needs to clear.

Junior Dog (1,0)

  1. Martin – Sturtmoor Arceus’s Legacy JW – s&w with a classic clean wedge head of good length, well set ears used to advantage enhancing correct expression. Good length of neck & body, well angulated front & rear. Moved really well with good reach & drive. Pushed the overall winners in the challenge - look forward to seeing him as a mature dog.

Post Graduate Dog (2,0)

  1. Denton – Rylance Moonshine over Brackenhaye – b/m who did not make the most of himself. Has a clean wedge head of good length, good reach of neck, well made body with good bone. Moved well when concentrating.
  2. Rodgers – Blamorder Mischief Maker with Jerdoni – s&w of finer type than 1st. Good length of head, just needs to develop in body, not the angulation of winner. Moved OK.

Limit Dog (2,0)
2 dogs of very different types

  1. Seager – Blamorder Magic Maker with Freejack JW – s&w with good length of head. Well made body with good length of back. Good bone, moved well with easy reach & drive.
  2. Warren & Lusty - Coldelee Jupiter Rises with Blamorder JW - tricolour with a lot to like, just a little wider in skull & deeper in stop than 1st. Very good construction & movement.

Open Dog (4,0)

  1. Wensley - Ch Constella Hazy Cosmic Jive JW – quality tri dog who has a clean wedge head of correct length, flat skull, well set eye & ears giving alert expression. Very well angulated front & rear with good length of back. Moved with reach & drive to win the CC. 
  2. Robertson - Wynele Strike One – another quality tri dog with good clean wedge head. Very good conformation & movement. Close decision between these two, just lacked showmanship of winner - RCC.
  3. Seager - Blamorder Scale Force with Freejack

Veteran Bitch (2,1)

  1. Cowling - Koczkodan Serenity - tri bitch full of quality. Clean wedge head with flat skull, correct eye & ears giving intelligent expression. Arched neck leading into well angulated front. Good length of back & rear angulation. Moved with reach & drive to win the CC, BOB & Best Veteran. Was pleased to see her go on to win BVIS.

Puppy Bitch (4,0)

  1. Lusty - Blamorder That’s Lush - s&w of nice type with lovely happy temperament. Head of good length, well angulated with good body & bone. Moved well when concentrating.
  2. Cole & Fort - Shulune Imperial Rum Punch - pretty tri bitch, good construction & movement.
  3. Richardson - Lizoni Que Sera Sera

Junior Bitch (1,0)

  1. Lusty - Blamorder Dare To Dream – tri with clean wedge head, nice eye, ears need to settle. Good length of back, well angulated front & rear. Moved well with reach & drive - Best Puppy.

Post Graduate Bitch (2,0)

  1. Caulfield - Constella Vega Luminosa – very nice tri bitch with clean wedge head, good eye & expression. Good construction, jet black coat. Moved well.
  2. Lusty - Blamorder Dare To Dream

Limit Bitch (4,0)

  1. Caulfield - Blamorder Marvellousness – tri with beautiful head & expression. Ears need to settle. Very good construction with good bone. Moved well when concentrating.
  2. Jerrett - Coldelee Eternal Sunshine JW - s&w with good head & expression, good front & length of back, moved well, just lacks maturity of winner.
  3. Beeney - Coneypark Golden Brown.

Open Bitch (3,0)

  1. Sweeney & Lusty - Ch Blamorder Do Quite Nicely AW(B) – feminine blue merle bitch of correct type. Good head, flat skull, correct eye & expression. Well made body with good angulation. Moved well - RCC & RBOB.
  2. Denton - Ch Brackenhaye Heart And Soul – tri colour with jet black coat. Good head & expression, just a bit strong for me. Well constructed with good movement. Stood  showed well.
  3. Richardson - Koczkodan Sweet Dreams of Lizoni
