COLLIE (ROUGH) - DOGS
My grateful thanks to the officers and committee of The Collie Association for the great honour to judge males at their 90th Anniversary Ch Show and my heartfelt thanks to every exhibitor who had entered – I was humbled by the great number of males and felt privileged with the quality of dogs I had the pleasure to handle. I would also like to thank you all for the sporting way in which you accepted my decisions. A big thank you also to my lovely and efficient stewards Donna Baker and Derrick Farthing who kept me on track! Overall, I was really pleased to see so many well constructed males and it was not hard to find sound dogs and very few with poor construction.
Veteran Dog (6 – 1 abesent)
1st – Williams’ Ch Mejola Fate And Fortune, this dog appealed with his size, substance, elegance and overall balance, a very clean wedge shaped head with a flat skull, nicely shaped and placed eye giving a kind expression, good ears although a little wide set, ample reach of neck, strong and firm topline, correct spring and depth of chest with good forechest, correctly angulated front and back enabling his free and effortless movement, I would prefer more marbling in his otherwise good coloured coat, well presented, Best Veteran Dog
2 – Bartram’s Ambartr King Of The Ring, sable of similar make and shape to the winner, well balanced and elegant yet masculine, very clean head with correct wedge shape and a flat skull although I would prefer a slightly better defined stop, pleasant expression, good ears and ear carriage when he used them, long well arched neck and good topline giving him flowing lines, correctly angulated front and rear, good spring of rib and depth of chest, enough bone and substance, in good and well presented coat, moved freely and easily
3rd – Spendelow’s Uffspring Unmistakable AW(S)
4th – Proctor’s Wilmaranna Out Of The Blue for Cathbri
VHC – Boyle’s Barrenclough Diamond Days
Minor Puppy Dog (6 – 0 absent)
1st – Hawkins & Foy’s Beldones Ivory Star - a very young but so very promising baby with such great style and attitude, absolutely masculine, beautifully clean, well balanced and well moulded head, correct stop for his age, beautifully shaped and placed dark eye and correct ear carriage, all combining to give him a most appealing expression, harmoniously put together with well angulated front and rear, good neck and proud head carriage, lovely bone and substance, firm topline which he kept on the move, moved out very well with good reach and drive, I thought he was impressive for his age, BPD and I was very pleased to see him awarded BPIS
2nd – Lockyer’s Gataj Perfect Timing, masculine golden sable and well put together young male, well balanced head with good moulding and a soft and sweet eye, ears a little heavy and wide set, good reach of neck and correct topline, well angulated front and rear, well developed in body and bone, moved soundly from all angles although a little hesitant on the floor today
3rd – Walder’s Roughrigg The Life Of Riley at Hanvale
4th – Williams’ Essanjay Ring of Fire
VHC – Bolt’s Gataj Bonne Eddie
Puppy Dog (6 – 1 absent)
1st - Geddes’ Ingledene Absolute Legend - this young tri impressed me first and foremost with his sweeping body lines, correct angulations and corresponding movement - it was a real joy to see his reach and drive and the amount of ground he covered in a few easy steps, completely effortless and with a wonderful topline, his head is very clean and has the perfect wedge shape, the smoothest cheeks and a flat and well filled backskull, he has a nicely filled foreface with a straight noseline, good strong underjaw, very nicely shaped dark eye which is obliquely placed giving a pleasing expression, good ears, still developing in head and of a type that needs to time mature but I feel he has much scope and I will be interested to watch how he matures
2nd – Hawkins and Foy’s Beldones Mojito, golden sable with a very clean head pattern, perfectly balanced, flat skull, correct stop for his age and a straight noseline giving the desired parallel planes, his eye shape and placement giving him the sweetest melting expression, good strong underjaw, ears a little wide set, good reach of neck, well angulated with good spring of rib and depth of chest, needs to develop in forechest, moved out very well with reach and drive and correct action coming and going, to be critical I would just prefer him a little more masculine
3rd – Tipper’s Tiganlea Turned To Black
4th – Harris’ Geosamka Loves To Love at Ithilien
VHC – Radford-House & Durrant’s Ingledene Spirit Is Legend for Fivejays
Junior Dog (8 – 0 absent)
1st – Port’s Medley of Flame Disco Dave – sable who I would ideally like a size larger but he is very masculine and very nicely put together with good overall proportions, balanced head with good foreface and a very nicely shaped and placed eye giving a mild, soft and pleasing expression which won him the class, I would not like his skull to go any wider or deeper, good ears which he used well, good reach of neck and firm topline which he kept on the move, well angulated, excellent spring of rib and depth of chest, good bone and substance, moved freely and effortlessly
2nd – Lockyer’s Salsina’s Red Hot Crush with Gataj, 11 months and in peak condition, nicely sized golden sable with an attractive look and good overall balance, well balanced and clean head with good moulding and flat skull, I would prefer a little more underjaw, very nicely shaped and placed dark eye giving a sweet expression, well tipped and well carried ears, adequate length of neck, enough angulation front and back allowing him to move freely and efficiently from all angles, in lovely well fitting coat and immaculately presented
3rd – Geddes’ Ingledene Absolute Legend
4th – Williams’ Mejola Top Gun
VHC – Van De Ven’s Winner of Dreams Angel Silvestre
Yearling Dog (4 – 0 absent)
1st – Blake’s Corydon Christopher, masculine golden sable of a beautiful make, shape and overall balance, his head has the cleanest wedge shape, a flat skull and a straight noseline, his obliquely placed and correctly shaped dark eye gives an alert yet dreamy and kind expression, his foreface is so beautifully moulded and has a velvety quality to it which is quite rare to see, good ears and ear set, lovely reach of neck, strong and firm topline, correct spring and depth of chest, very well angulated front and back, moved lightly and effortlessly, he just needs to mature to come into his own
2nd – Randall’s Ladnar Makemeawinner, the upstanding look and size of this dog caught my eye, nicely moulded and masculine head which is balanced and clean with a correct stop, well shaped eye giving a pleasing expression, a little wide set ears, good spring of rib and depth of chest, good angulations front and back which showed in his light and effortless movement, good colour although I would prefer a little more marbling running through
3rd – Ross’ Siluto Blue Wizzard at Amberwish
4th – Spendelow’s Uffspring Undeniable
Novice Dog (1)
1st – Geddes’ Ingledene Absolute Legend
Graduate Dog (7 – 1 absent)
1st – Dawson’s Gemheid Chestnut, upstanding dog of good size, clean well balanced head although a little fine in foreface and he is lacking in pigmentation which spoilt his expression although his eye is well shaped and placed, excellent ears and ear carriage, good length of neck, good body proportions, good spring of rib and depth of chest and well angulated front and back with strong hocks, quite unsettled today but a nicely made dog who shows reach and drive in his movement
2nd – Reeder’s Carristina Bluebell Wood, good size, a little shorter coupled all over than the winner but well put together, balanced head but skull too deep through and could be flatter and he has too much stop, nicely shaped eye giving a pleasant expression, quite well angulated front and back, well made in body and moved well from all angles
3rd – Gelder’s Libanel Erebus Eternal Love
4th – Skinner’s Ladnar Makeithappen for Nikal
VHC – Dodsworth’s Libanel Everlasting Charm
Post Graduate Dog (3 – 1 absent)
1st Crawford’s Stregato Foolish Guy, big upstanding male with pleasing overall make and shape, his head has a clean wedge but needs better parallel lines and is too deep through in skull, foreface could be a little better filled and I found his eye a little light and round, excellent ears and ear carriage, alert and intelligent expression, he has a good length of neck flowing into a well angulated front assembly which is matched by a well angulated rear, deep well sprung ribcage, shown in good coat and excellent hard condition, moved with reach and drive, covering the ground well, very nicely handled to his advantage
2nd – Dix’s Barrenclough Diamond Skies, a little smaller than the winner but also a well made male with good length of body and good angulations front and back, I would prefer his head less chiselled and with a better underjaw, also a little less depth through the skull, pleasant eye, ears a little wide set, not so happy on the floor today but moved well enough when he settled and kept a steady topline on the move, shown in good coat which was presented in lovely condition
Mid Limit Dog (4 – 1 absent)
1st – Howard, Newton & Patterson’s Ladnar Dreamchaser, proud and upstanding blue merle dog with plenty of bone and substance, he is solid all over, well balanced head although a little too strong and deep in skull and a little too defined in stop, well moulded foreface, good ears which he used well, nicely shaped and placed eye giving a pleasant and alert expression, adequate neck, moderately angulated front and rear assembly, well sprung ribcage and depth of chest, moved out well from all angles with positive action, a little proud of his tail, shown in good coat which was very well presented
2nd – Cooper’s Kelekona Hearts of Gold, shaded sable who is so very well constructed and built on elegant lines, well balanced head with flat skull and good head planes, almond shaped eye giving pleasant expression, I would prefer a little more underjaw, good ears which he was reluctant to use and he did not seem to enjoy himself, on the move he really came into his own as he showed off a lovely reach and drive action, completely smooth and effortless and with a perfect topline intact, I would just prefer a little more of him
3rd – Bolt & Hollywood’s Amalie A Chance To Shine
Limit Dog (9 – 3 absent)
1st – Tipper’s Tiganlea Thumbs Up, richly coloured sable with a nice make and shape, his head is well balanced with a good underjaw, nicely moulded foreface, good ears which he used well, his eye can look a little round at times but still gives a soft and kind expression, adequate reach of neck, well angulated front and back, enough body and bone, in good coat which was well presented, moved well from all angles with a good topline, I would just like a little more of him all over
2nd – Milligan & Marley’s Alfsden Endless Night, tricolour with a gleaming and jet black coat presented in lovely condition, a very nice head pattern, clean and balanced with a flat skull and parallel head planes, well moulded foreface, his eye is a little small but correctly shaped, he was very reluctant to use his ears, adequate neck, strongly build in body with deep chest and good spring of rib, firm and strong topline, good bone and substance, moved out well from all angles
3rd – Chaplin’s Takhisis Lysander
4th – Blake’s Demelewis Silver Spur at Corydon
VHC – Leese’s Essanjay Against All Odds
Open Dog (14 – 4 absent)
This class was a pleasure to judge with so many quality dogs and some that went unplaced, and I felt spoilt for choice - consequently it was a close and difficult decision which could have gone either way.
1st – Skalin’s Int Fi Dk No Lt Ch Skabona Mix’N Match, upstanding sable shown in peak condition and demanded attention from the start, although his head is well balanced with clean cheeks and a superb underjaw and he has neat, well placed and carried ears, his expression is not his best attribute and I would prefer a better moulded foreface and a sweeter eye, however, I could not deny his ring presence, the standard asks for ‘impassive dignity’ and he was personifying this for me today, in the end I could not look past him, he is proportionate with beautiful construction, muscular with the correct slight rise over the loin, so very well balanced on the move with forward reach and drive from behind, he covered the ground effortlessly and efficiently and demonstrating endurance, showing he was built to work, groomed, presented and handled to perfection, my CC winner and I was pleased to see him awarded res BOB and res BIS
2nd – Wall’s Daliyhaa Master Craftsman, this tri dog stole my attention as soon as I saw him with his regal stance and striking outline, all shouting Collie, his arched neck flowed into a beautiful topline, he was in perfect proportion and complete balance - I thought he was going to be my winner, to top this he had a beautifully well balanced and clean head with lovely moulding of foreface, flat skull, correct head planes, correctly shaped and placed dark eyes giving a lovely and kind expression, good ear set and correctly tipped, all giving a very pleasing look, he moved out with reach and drive, keeping a firm topline, polished presentation and superbly handled, he didn’t put a foot wrong, he was very unlucky today to meet the sable who put on a command performance which meant this handsome dog was awarded the res CC
