ROUGH COLLIES

My thanks to the committee of the Collie Club of Wales for their invitation to judge the Rough Collies and Special award Classes of Smooth Collies at this most hospitable of shows. The atmosphere is second to none and it is lovely to see a committee working together so well, and making a good day out for everyone.
I thank most sincerely all the exhibitors who gave me this opportunity to go over their dogs. All were beautifully presented and even the baby puppies were showing off their virtues!! It was my first time to judge a Baby Puppy class and what a delight it was!

BABY PUPPY DOG OR BITCH (7. 0)

This was the hardest class I have ever had to judge! All were worthy of a high place so some difficult decisions had to be made. As most were out for the first time I allowed for hesitancy and pulling across the mat.

1.Shipp’s TREMARO SPECIAL AGENT Almost 6 month old sable dog. Flat skull, ear placement just right, dark almond eye well placed. Good length of back and arch of neck. Standing and showing he was lovely, though somewhat erratic in movement. I’m sure this will improve with more training.
2. Llewelyn’s SALSINA BLUSHING ROSE Very pretty petite 5 month old golden sable bitch. Stood and showed like a professional! Sweetest of expressions from a nicely placed, almond shaped eye. Head was balanced enough for her age, ears a little light but I’m sure they will settle with maturity. Good length of back. Shoulder placement was excellent. Moved nicely around the floor.
3. Lockyer’s GATAJ I AM MAXIMUS

2. MINOR PUPPY DOG (2.0)
1. Lockyer’s GATAJ PREFECT TIMING 8 month old golden sable. Beautiful presentation. He has a lovely eye with good parallel planes and excellent underjaw. Shoulder placement good with a nice turn of stifle. Moved steadily maintaining his topline. Would just like to see his ears a little tighter. BPD
2. Walder’s ROUGHRIGG THE LIFE OF RILEY AT HANVALE 6 month shaded sable. Good parallel head planes with correct stop. Angulation front and rear was good for his age. Lovely spring of rib. Ears could be tighter but I’m sure this will come. He moved with confidence. Beautifully presented and trained. Sympathetically handled.

SPECIAL YEARLING DOG(1)

Lockyer’s SALSINA RED HOT CRUSH WITH GATAJ. 15 month sable, immaculately presented and handled. I really liked this boy. Head with flat skull, nicely placed stop and rounded muzzle, eye shape and ear placement all combined to give a lovely expression. He is well made with good angulation front and rear. Unfortunately today his mind was elsewhere and flew his tail spoiling his outline and movement. RBD

OPEN DOG (2)

1st Flower’s ANDROMA DREAMCATCHER AT SERENLAS (IMP SVN) 6 year old shaded sable dog of excellent size. He is well constructed with good angulation and length of back. Neck is arched and of sufficient length. He was a little short of coat today but what he has was in good clean condition and showed his outline. Moved with a light stride around the ring maintaining his topline. He is not a glamorous dog but a sound honest collie who is fit for purpose and looks as if he could do a day’s work. BD

2nd Shipp’s CH NO MORE HEROES DU CLOS DE SEA WIND 7 year old golden sable dog. Beautifully presented in abundant coat. He is soundly constructed although today seemed to be carrying some extra weight which, combined with his full coat made him appear rather heavy. He has a well balanced head with kind expression. Moved steadily around the ring.

18. MINOR PUPPY BITCH (2)
1. Lockyer’s GATAJ TIME FOR LOVE 8 month sable and white in immaculately presented coat of lovely texture. Head well constructed although I would prefer tighter ear set to enhance her expression . Her neck was arched and she has a good topline with required rise over the loin. She has good length of back. Moved with confidence around the mat.
2. Ware’s WASSAIL THE LAST DANCE. 6and a half month Tricolour bitch of very nice construction. She was a little overwhelmed by the occasion so somewhat hesitant . When she settled she showed a sweet expression from well placed ears, nice dark almond shaped eye and nicely developing head. She is well proportioned for her age.

19. PUPPY BITCH (1)
1. Lockyer’s GATAJ EXOTIC GIRL 11 and a half month old Sable and white in fabulous coat and condition. She has a really sweet expression emanating from her well set ears, which she uses all the time, dark obliquely set eyes and well balanced head. She has a lovely neck, which she shows off as she is so attentive to her handler. Good length of back and a well set on tail complete the picture. A really lovely puppy. BPIB

20. SPECIAL YEARLING BITCH (3. 2A)
1. Walder’s ROUGHRIGG RED LAGERTHA JW. Almost 2 year old shaded sable of good construction. Ears well set and used ,well balanced head with nice parallel planes which combine to produce an alert expression. Lovely arch of neck and adequate length of back. Moved well around the ring maintaining her topline. Has good angulation front and rear. Expertly handled and presented. RBB

21 .NOVICE BITCH (1. 1A)

22. POST GRADUATE BITCH (1. 1A)

23. LIMIT BITCH (2. 1A)
1. Ware’s MILLUBIE ESSENCE OF MAGIC AT WASSAIL most attractive 3 year old tricolour in very good coat. Ear and eye placement were spot on; combined with parallel head planes this produced a really sweet expression . She stood giving her full attention to her handler presenting a lovely outline with required rise over loin. On the move she had drive and reach although once or twice was a little unsure of herself. However a really nice bitch and I will watch her progress with interest. BB. BOB RBIS

24. OPEN BITCH (3. 1A)
1. Llewellyn’s STARLENGA NINA SIMONE. 3year old blue Merle of most attractive colour and shape. She had left her coat at home today but this accentuated her lovely shape and arched neck. Dark eye and well set ears give her a pretty expression. Shoulder placement is good with equal bend of stifle. Unfortunately she was unhappy in her surroundings and this impacted on her movement today. Sympathetically handled.
2. Ware’s KIND OF MAGIC DELLA BUCA DELLE FATE AT WASSAIL 6 year old heavily coated tricolour. Nice flat skull and rounded muzzle but stop a little deep for me. Good height to length ratio. Showed really well using her ears and her arched neck. Movement was a little sluggish on the mat but she looked as if she enjoyed her day.
