ROUGH COLLIES (DOGS)
It was an honour to be invited to judge the dogs at The Colĺie Association championship show on November 26th. Held at the Sky Blue Connexion the show was well organised by secretary Sheila Telford and her team. A bit of a pre-Christmas atmosphere and an excellent raffle and catering, which were much appreciated.
In the ring I had a strong open class and some promising youngsters. Some exhibits were not fully confident on the flooring. I always believe that Collies are better outdoors
A pleasure to meet my co- judge Jayne Lleewellyn ..
BOB on the referee's decision was the tricolour bitch LADNAR INKSPOT which I liked a lot on first seeing her but she was not happy to be handled and I stayed with my dog CC winner , the Veteran CH BROOKLYNSON EL DORADO who stood with the impassive dignity required by the standard and moved well with good carriage. I have to say that the bitch CC winner allowed the referee to handle her so I could understand her choice.
Best Puppy was the blue merle bitch of 11 months, beautiful colour, feminine well moulded head and lovely expression and confident on the move and more forward and assured than my best puppy dog CORYDON CHRISTOPHER who has excellent balance and the soundness associated with his prefix.
The dog CC winner was best Veteran
Many thanks to my two efficient and enthusiastic stewards Julie Growcott and Penny Sewell.
Dogs
VETERAN
1 CH. BROOKLYNSON EL DORADO at 7 year old competing in his first veteran class and in very good form ,shown in excellent coat and standing and moving as a Collie should. He is of the size, proportions and leg length that appealls to me.His head has good planes but he could use his ears a little better.Good eye. His coat shows off his outline. Stood out here and later in the challenge he had the maturity and finish and gave the performance to win the cc, his seventh.
2 WICANI ALTITUDE AT IMAGINIST 9 year old tri whose shape and balance takes the eye.Good head shape and appealled in expression and earset. Not as positive in rear movement as the winner
3 UFFSPRING UNMISTAKABLE
MINOR PUPPY
1 ULTIMATE RESULT DU CLOS DE SEAWIND AT GATAJ 8 months tri who stood away for shape and balance although he needs to grow on yet.He has a beautiful head and expressed, the foreface gently rounded, and with lovely eye and ears. Scored in his correct angulation at both ends. Accurate movement but needed more confidence on the flooring but this grew as the day progressed. Should have a good future.
2 ELSHAJO PERFECT VALENTINE 7 months sable and white, a little overawed on the floor and he needs to come up on the leg as he grows on. Has good type in head and eye. Experience will help him.
PUPPY
1 CORYDON CRISTOPHER, 10 months sable/ white with impressive outline and balance and a very accurate mover when he gained his confidence, and with excellent tail carriage.Parallel planes to his masculine head and nicely rounded muzzle. Good eye but his ears are a little heavy. Well constructed at both ends. Best Dog puppy.
2 LADNAR MAKEITHAPPEN FOR NIKAL 10 months blue merle who presents a good outline standing but today he was very uncoordinated and unsettled on the move. I liked his clean and refined head with good eyes. At an awkward stage in his development and this shows in his topline.
JUNIOR
1 GATAJ TURN BACK TIME sable/white of 17 months who won this class well. Presented in lovely condition and his movement and carriage were excellent. A refined head of parallel planes and good eye and ears but he needs a little more fill to his muzzle which I hope maturity will bring. Very good tail and carriage. Promising prospect.
2 LYNMEAD PRINCE CHARMING 12 months sable of very good shape and balance. I preferred his head to the winners for finish of muzzle. However he needs more confidence in being handled and this shows also in his carriage. The outdoor shows should benefit him.
3 LADNAR MAKEMEAWINNER
YEARLING
1 CORYDON THE BARON sable of 16 months. Full of quality and stood away here. Quality in head with parallel planes and good eye and ears. Well filled in front of the eyes. His good construction is evident in his movement. Correct for coat which shows off the body shape. Assured and confident standing and moving. At his first show and should do well. He made the final cut of four on the day.
2 CARRISTINA BLUEBELL WOOD 20 months shown in lovely condition and coat. He pleased me for size, outline and balance.Head is of good balance but a touch pronounced in stop.Carried himself well but can firm up in front action.
3 LIBANEL EVERLASTING CHARM
NOVICE
1 PHREELANCER PHINAL SALUTE 2 year old handsome shaded sable who looked a picture standing with his calm and collected attention on his handler. He has a quality head with clean wedge shape and correct eye and stop. His ears are a little wide set. He moved very well with good carriage. Excellent coat which enhanced his shape. Moved well. I would just prefer a little more fall away to his tail set which just detracts from his outline on the move. Made the final cut.
2 LYNMEAD PRINCE CHARMING
3 GATAJ LIGHTNING FLASH
GRADUATE
1 LUMINOUS MOON OVER LENOSANN 2 year old blue of lovely colour and coat texture. Full size dog who is strongly boned. Clean, wedge shaped head with good eye. Ears can settle and he can tighten up in front action
2 INGLEDENE DARK MOON RISIN 22 montns tri who is well coated. I thought him a little long for balance and his tail carriage detracts. Sound movement. Good skull and eye but could be cleaner in lip.
3 CARIBBEAN BLUE SKYACTIS TO SALAMONTE.. my winner at first glance but unhappy in the ring today, a pity
POST GRAD.. disappointing class
1 LADNAR DREAMCHASER 2 year old blue who is a little dark in colour and not in his best coat. Good planes to head and good eye but a bit deep through the skull. Won on soundness of movement
2 TAKHISIS LYSANDER, 2 year old sable of good proportions. Not in his best coat which detracted from his croup and tailset but he looked my winner. Cleaner in head than tHe winner but he was not going well in front on the day.
MID LIMIT
1 THISTLEWING SMOKY QUARTS 2 year old sable who scored in head and eye and sound movement to win this place. Not in his best coat which detracted from his topline but what he had was of correct texture and was well presented.
2 ESSANJAY FIELDS OF GOLD FOR FIRESAGA, 4 year old shaded sable in excellent coat. He is balanced in outline and moves well with good carriage. Good foreface but a little strong and deep through the skull. Not the expression of the winner.
3 KOURIKA YOU'LL DO FOR ME
LIMIT
1 MARVALAN SPIRIT OF ROCK 4 year old tri, appealled for his outline and balance and he moved soundly holding his topline. A refined dog whom I would prefer a touch more masculine. Presented to look a picture in his well fitting coat.
2 CAMANNA CAREER CHANGING FOR MAQUEEBA 4 year old shaded sable whose head and eye appealled to me. Masculine well boned dog but not the neck and shoulders of the winner. Sound on the move
3 MONSOLANA FRANZ VON ASSISI MIT PEBLU
OPEN best class for depth of quality but very mixed for size and type.
1 CHANTIQUE MAGICAL MYSTERY 3 year old sable dog who is not flashy but caught the eye for outline and movement, really driving from the hocks and covering the ground. Good head planes and good eye and expression.Could be a little cleaner in cheeks. Alert and responsive to his handler.Very well angulated at both ends. Coat of excellent texture Reserve CC to the veteran winner whose leg length I preferred.
2 AQUALITA ITS A MIRACLE this handsome upstanding tricolour dog appealled greatly for size and balance and he was in excellent coat. Quality head with good planes and eye but he was reluctant to use his ears . Whilst he was sound and accurate on the move he lacked the drive of the winner. Had he put all in could have have turned the tables here.
3 NO MORE HEROS DU CLOS OF SEAWIND.
