19th June 2026
I was sorry to hear from Jackie Stockden (Willowgarth) of the passing of Margaret Ashmore, a name possibly not known to many as she based her small Tycharm kennel in the south of the country. The most notable dog she bred was Tycharm Starlight, a blue merle, sired by Ch Pelido Blue Bolero out of a Ch Pelido Guilty daughter (by Ch Percheron Benjamin Black at Amalie ex a Pipersette bitch). She owned this boy in partnership with Sue Page, who herself has not been in the best of health. He won the DCC at Southern Counties Ch show when it was held near to Gatwick Airport in 1994 when Albert Turner judged.
Now to the main results of the shows held over the weekend, firstly Border Union held their Ch show with an interesting entry of 37 males and 45 females for the popular Derek Allsopp (Sandmel). At the end of his judging we have a new 1st CC winner and a new Champion. I understand that although dry, it was quite breezy and not that warm but I doubt any of the winners actually noticed.
Derek last judged dogs at London & Provincial in 2023 and prior to that, bitches at Crufts in the same year.
His class winners were: Chelborn Look At Me for Sue Thorne; Aaronwell Asks The Question for John Congdon; Ladnar Call My Name JW for Sue & nDave Randall. Jopium Just For |You Corisian for the Brooker family; Roughrigg Rags’n’Riches for the McCartes; Chantique The Witcher for Chan & Andre. Shanaburn Dark Night for Wilma Brodie; Afterglow Invocation for Angela & Keith Harvey and Wicani Invoking Spirit for Di Collino, Angela and Keith.
Following on from receiving reserve CC’s in 2021, 2024 and 2025, finally the big green card came to Angela & Keith with Afterglow Invocation. A shaded sable, bred by Mike Gadsby and Jason Lynn, he was born September 2018. Sired by Wicani Invoking Spirit (who won Veteran) out of Wicani Hot Property for Afterglow and was returned to Wicani as a comparative youngster and has been making his mark for Angela & Keith. Today he was moved by young Jake Walsh who also had a busy day, winning BOB in Australian Shepherds with his and Michelle Davies Rosschell Maid To Dazzle under Bridgette Bodle and eventual PG2
Taking the RDCC was the well-known Ch Beldones Ivory Star, and I am sure, by now, you are all aware of his breeding. BPD was Chelborn Look At Me and Sue Thorne.
Now to the ladies, winning classes were: Takhisis Lady Is A Tramp for Sophie Wray-Ramsden; Chelborn Blue Me Away for Vanessa and Isaac; Tremaro Fantasy for Rob & Margaret Shipp; Beldones Fantasy for Brian & Odile. Brenda Welsh and Thistlewing Gold Mist won Graduate; Gataj All That Glitters and Melissa, Jopium Follow My Heart and Jo Hodges, Ch Chelborn Tell Me Your Wish for Vanessa and Ch Ingledene Sno Wanda took Veteran for Valerie Geddes.
The BCC, her 3rd went to Jo Hodges and her sable Jopium Follow My Heart. This little lady has been knocking at the door recently bringing home a few RBCC but today, finally annexed the BIG ONE. Sired by Riverside Song Xplorer of Hearts out of Jopium Loves To Sparkle at Meryctin (who also dam of Ch Jopium Love On The Rocks) and she was born May 2024. Her previous CC wins came from Howard Ogden at Birmingham National in 25 and at Manchester this year from Jackie Stubbs. Jo’s day was completed when her home-bred ASD took Pastoral Puppy G2 from Steve Bardwell. I did not see any Roughs placed.
Taking another RBCC was the winner of the Open class, Ch Chelborn Tell Me Your Wish owned by Vanessa Cronk. A Sable, born in July2022. She is sired by Ch Skabona The Gambler at Chelborn out of Chelborn That’ll Be A Wish
BOB fell to Angela, BPIB to Sophie and her Tricolour Takhisis The Lady Is A Tramp and Best Veteran to Val and Ch Ingledene Sno Wanda.
No sooner had judging finished, then it was the turn of the Scottish Collie Club Ch Show. Thanks to Secretary Alyson Carmichael who kept us up to date with class wins throughout the show.
Their entry was 87, similar to Border Union but not quite the same set of exhibitors and a few more missing in the final attendance figures. The judges were Pat Brooker for Dogs, Geoff Duffield (Angelfield) bitches, Lyn Maxwell was appointed for the Baby Puppy and BIS, and she holds the Aintshe affix.
This appointment was just the second time Pat was awarding CC’s as her first appointment, over both sexes, was at Nat.Wkg Pastoral Breeds in 2023 and today she judged the males.
From her entry of 36 males with about 8 missing, it was her pleasure to award the CC to Luis with Charlene’s Paulara Blaze of Glory. This is his 2nd CC, the first won under Jane Margetts at British earlier this year. Sired by Born To Be Your Quite Famous Lynmead out of Paulara Keep The Faith and he was born July 2023 and he won Open. The RDCC was awarded to the winner of Yearling, who was Ladnar Call Me Name JW (Myriehewe London Calling ex Ladnar Izadorable) and he was born August 2024 and has already amassed a large number of these smaller cards (8)or his owners Dave &b Sue Randall. BPD went to Chan and Andre with Chantique Will O The Whisp, a sable, also sired by Ch Born To Be Quite Famous Lynmead bout out of Chantique Fairy Magic. BVD was Michelle McCann and Ch Oaklands Blue Style du Clos de Seawind at Zolkhan who has recently celebrated his birthday in February. He is sired by Hot Chocolate du Clos de Sea-Wind out of I Have a Blue Dream du Clos De Sea-Wind and he is a blue merle.
Others to win classes were: Gataj Just Like Jesse James; Thistlewings Andromeda at Bracoisla, Rough Rags’n’Riches and Shanaburn Country Road.
Geoff Duffield is another popular judge, with his last appointment at WECS in 2024 and interestingly judged at Sc Collie back in 1999. His choice for the BCC was the winner of Open, John Congdon’s Ch Aaronwell Abel Mabel who is by Ch Brilyn Intoxicated out of Riverside Song Nebraska at Aaronwell and she was born May 2023. A message from Sue Hawkins let me know of this win and also to say that recently she has collected 2 of her previous CC wins in Scotland. Maybe a happy hunting ground for Aaronwell.
Having just gained that 3rd CC at Border Union, our latest Ch lady, Jopium Follow My Heart won her Limit class and another RCC. All her details are above. BPB was Chelborn Blue Me Away, with Valerie and Ch Ingledene Sno Wanda collecting another BVB.
Others to win classes were: Ingledene Sno Secret, a daughter of the Veteran winner, Gataj Miss Sparkles, Geosamka Summer, Salsina Love Me Do for Whitecraigs, Gataj All That Glitters who is dam of the MP winner.
At the end of the long day, Lynn Maxwell, Aintshe, had the honour of selecting BIS and she chose Luis and his sable boy for BIS, RBIS to Ladnar Call My Name JW; BOSIS to Able Mabel for John with BPIS going to Chan and Andre with Chantique Will o The Wisp, with BVIS to Michelle McCann and Ollie, Ch Oaklands Blue Style du Clos de Seawind at Zolkhan
Some exhibitors called in to other shows, or even attended shows following trips to Kelso. One was Sophie Wray Ramsden, who took Takhisis Lady Is A Tramp, who, having won BP under Derek Allsopp, on the way home, went to Northwich Premier Open Show where the judged was Joannne Goodbrand and took another BP and RBOB to her grand-mother, Bel Ch Takhisis Lady of Mystery BW24/5 who then won Pastoral Group 3 from Mike Vincent and Frankie (Takhisis Lady IIs A Tramp) won PPG4 at just over 6moths of age.
Others who have been out and about included Stefani Flower who has been collecting cards with her Serenlas She’s On Trend, known as Tigi , as at Taunton and District, under Stephanie Presdee they collected BPIB and places with other Serenlas in all 4 classes. Then won PPG2 and 4th in Puppy Stakes from Ros Gardner (Elmsmere Cardigans) with Ian Blackshaw for stakes, winning £10.
Not content with these wins, they also arrived at Royal Cheshire Country Show where Andrea Richardson judged and attained BPIB and RBOB and under Wendell Moores collected another Puppy Group Placing.
