Another busy weekend for some and others needed to check not only their passports but those of their dogs as the annual ENE event was also held over the weekend. Once I have more details, these will be posted but first many congratulations to the star of the weekend – Vince
Many of you reading this may not recall or even be aware of the connections of this win which promotes our breed. So, for those who are fairly new to our breed, and for others a memory jolt as we, who do recall, realise that maybe we are not as young as we thought we were! So, please allow me to enlarge.
20 years ago, the last set of CC’s were awarded at SWKA Ch show, (after re-consideration by the RCBC and the Kennel Club, these CC’s were returned to SWKA recently) At this show, the judge was Gwen Beadon (Myriehewe) and her choice for BPIB was a blue merle bitch, who was to become Ch Ladnar Maid Sweet (Ch Atendus Made Step by Step ex Ladnar Maid of Dreams Over Kirikan). Owned and bred by Sue and Dave Randall she certainly made an impact as she took not only this award but ended up BPIS ALL BREEDS, judged by Jack Bispham (Bridgedale).
Now, 20 years later, Ladnar Call My Name (Vince) also took BPIB and then took the Pastoral Puppy Group 1 from Mark James. What many may not be aware of, Vince carries lines to Ch Maid Sweet, but her sire, Myriehewe London Calling is actually owned and bred by Gwen Beadon! In his pedigree, when he was born in August last year, Ch Ladnar Kingfisher (son of Maid Sweet) can be found in the 4th generation as similar to his dam, Ladnar Izadorable who carries similar lines.
Perhaps, as possible breeders of the future, a study of pedigrees would be helpful rather than just using the nearest local dog or your friends’ dog!
Both Ayrshire Collie, Yorkshire Collie and Bath Ch Show also held events over the weekend with an interesting set of results but all the entries here were lower than expected and full results of all will be recorded later but best wishes to Secretary, Christine Biggs, sec of YCC who suffered a nasty fall early in the morning at the show. I am sure we all send her our thoughts for a quick recovery.
However, before reporting on these UK shows, some good news for the breed came in recently where a BIS Breeders Group was won by the magnificent di Cambiano Kennel at the International Show di Livorno. All Blue Merles, these included, Erika Faigiolini with Opera Prima Blue of Change; Lucca Serra with Woooow What a Change; Urca che Blu di Cambiano, Alessandra Rota with Ch L’Incredible Blu di Cambiano; The Incredible Change Blue and Climb What a Change Blue and Lisa Fontenelli with her Int Ch Escursione in Russia Blu di Cambiano, I understand all are related to Ch & UK Ch Hit Parade Blu di Cambiano, who, if you check your pedigrees, has been so influential here in the UK as not only did  she gain her UK Title, she is the dam of Int & Ch Extraordinary Blu di Cambiano (Piaf) and he then sired at least 4 UK Champions, who themselves have continued the winning lines. So, congratulations to Marie Teresa Garabelli on this exceptional breeding achievement.
Saturday saw YCC Open There was a slight delay in receiving these results as Secretary, Chris Biggs, suffered a nasty fall on the morning of the show, but was cared for by many of the committee members and others, to whom she extends her thanks,  which resulted in some pain and two black eyes, we hope you are recovering well.
The entry was again quite small (originally 42) but Di found her winners as follows: Aqualita It’s A Miracle took BD; Kelekona Heart of Gold JW RBD; BPD Ladnar Call My Name and there were no Veteran males on show. In bitches, BB went to Stregato My Silver Tassie at Gemheid; Afterhero Cheeky Angel at Wicani with Wicani Belladonna taking BPB and Ch Brooklynson Jane Russell of Oakestelle VW ShEx winning BVB.  BOB Rough went to Stregato My Silver Tassie at Gemheid. RBOB to Afterhero Cheeky Angel at Wicani, BPIB to Ladnar Call My Name and BVIB to Ch Brooklynson Jane Russell of Oakestelle. At this show, where Smooth Collies are scheduled, Gina Stillwell officiated with her BOB being Constella Hazy Cosmic Jive JW winning with Uk Ch/Port/Esp. Winter Is Coming to Tentola.  BIS was judged by Sophie Wray-Ramsden. SAC Classes were offered to Lucy Mottram but currently I do not have all the results. I did hear that our own Angela Harvey was quite active in the ring with her charges  and good to see her back after recent health issues.

Sunday saw Ayrshire Collie, hold their Open show and it is so good to learn that both Scottish and Ayrshire are working well together, as currently ACC have just 6 committee members and running a show involves quite a few more, so Scottish lent a hand and the day ran well. The judge at Hurlford Community Centre was Iain Forbes, who has the Wellneuk kennel of Shetland Sheepdogs and is currently working through the JEP. Sarah Bothwell (Norcis) had accepted the SAC classes and her winners were: Aaronwell Another Dream for Avonfair; Thistlewing Gold Mist and Avonfair Aloysius JW. Iain also chose, as his BD, Avonfair Aloysius JW with Roughrigg Rags’n’Riches in reserve, there were no male pups present. In bitches, taking BB was Roughrigg One of A Kind, a daughter of their recent newly crowned Ch bitch. In reserve was another winner for Michelle and family with Aaronwell Another Dream For Avonfair who was also BPIS. Best Veteran went to Russell Campbell and Culbrae Imagine.

Now to Monday, at Bath, probably one of the best show-grounds in the country with every need for exhibitors catered for. Good In/Out Tenting, and a very helpful committee in charge should there be any issues.
This show was judged by Margaret Shipp (Tremaro) and this was her first time of awarding CC’s to both sexes, although she had judged previously at Ayrshire Collie in 2021 where she officiated over the males. It was a surprise to see her entry details of just 19 males and 32 females with the usual absentees but it was the same weekend as the ENE and also followed other shows as reported above. A 9am start saw the first classes in and it was not long after that Eddie was declared the DCC winner.  He is actually Lynmead Royal Lover,  pride and joy of Caz Waterhouse, who did message me with this news. and he has been collecting a few RDCC’s recently. Sired by Born to Be Quite Famous Lynmead out of Timeless Twilights Sent With Love to Lynmead and he won from Post Grad. Taking the RDCC was Ladnar Call My Name for Dave & Sue Randall. He is sired by Myriehewe London Calling out of Ladnar Izadorable. The only entry in Veteran dog was absent. Other class winners included Melissa,  Ch Gataj Turn Back Time; Geosamka Loves to Love at Ithilien and Sue Harris; Uffspring Undeniable and Jane Spendelow;  Gataj I Am Maximus who I saw was handled in the ring by husband Graham who appears to have recovered well following his recent operation, Lynmead Designed with Love for Chantique won MPD for Chan & Andre
Having helped organise all the entries and associated features of the ENE, in France, Odile and Brian came home early to show under Margaret. However, Brian suffered a very slight injury to his arm and needed rest, so Odile set off for Bath on her own accompanied by her sable Beldones Touch of Class. All this certainly paid off as she won not only her class, the BCC and BOB and with this win, adds another new Champion to their kennel. Sired by Honky Tonk Man of River Tweed out of Beldones Corradina, she won her previous CC’s in 2023 from Louise Walker at WECS and Tony Iley at YCC in 2023. Winning yet another RCC was Chantique Déjà Vu. I and her owners have lost count how many she has acquired but this win may have put a smile back on their faces as Chantal & Andre Scott are finding it difficult at Chantique, as often with breeding and keeping dogs, there are “ups and downs” and this was one of the latter. Teddy, Chantique Stardust crossed the rainbow bridge at just 10 years as his condition with a tumour worsened. Not used at stud, extensively outside the home kennel but shown to 2 RCC, he leaves a few offspring. Not able to fully come to terms with the loss of Teddy, a few days later, Milly, Ch Chantique Simply Dreamy (Ch Lynmead Simply In My Soul ex Chantique Pixie Bell) followed. At the great age of 15. A superb showgirl, she remained un-beaten in all of her classes when Chan & Andre showed her and won her title and 3 RCC to her credit.
Other Bath class winners were Chantique Away Wi The Fairy’s for Chan and Andre; Linda Gautrey won PB with Chantique Pixie Ring; Melissa and Gataj All That Glitters won Junior; Julie Growcott won Yearling with another Chantique, this is Chantique Sent From heaven for Lillyway. Novice went to Donna Baker and Salsina’s My Girl of Marilake; Alexis Swain took PG with A Touch of Blaze for Lexcol whilst Melissa re-appeared in Limit with Gataj All That Sparkles.
BOB at Bath went to Odile, BPIB to Sue/Dave & Vince and recorded a wonderful win as reported above. Hannah Lyall wining BVIB with her Santaloly’s Sky Amidalas with Corydon Cristal Aglitter winning Best Special Beginner.
The ENE results, will be published next week thanks to Odile who has sent them where our own Jo Hodges was one of the judges.
Lastly, some sad news to report as a message from Lisa Rendall to say that last week, her father, Les passed away. A regular at the WECS shows, he will be remembered as co-owner of Shepgold Sir Harry Roy, a sable who won 2CC’s and 1 Rcc. Born in 1998, he was sired by Mallicot Ace of Base out of an Elsamos Starshine daughter. To Lisa and family, we extend our thoughts.
