Before reporting on the busy show weekend, I ask for your help!
It would appear that “gremlins” have appeared within the RKC FAJ (Find A Judge) set of records. If you have been previously approved or have a forward appointment to judge with CC’s (Level 4) your name and details may currently be missing – so please check this out and contact the RKC direct (details on the site)
It would also appear that the actual numbers currently approved for Collies Rough can vary from those issued of: 273 on 13th May, 249 on 25th June, to the current stated figure of 233 on 5th July and 234 (as 7th July)
Yes, there are people who no longer wish to judge, or those who are no longer with us plus those who have recently been approved via Grandfather Rights but this divergence in numbers is hard to accept. As personally, knowing people, I do not believe that “suddenly” all have contacted the RKC with the relevant information and have asked to be removed from FAJ – unless there is someone out there already contacting judges direct that we, the RCBC are not aware of!
Please do go and check to see if your details are listed correctly and contact the RKC direct, this is not a matter for the RCBC current listing as we are aware that judging lists will only last, officially, until 31.12.2025 although all clubs will be entitled to still keep their own lists
Also, please remember that if you have attended & passed a BAD and MCE day you are asked to upload your relevant information - as breed BEC, I have noticed quite a few names who, as yet, have not up-loaded their details – so again, please check your details on L1 and L2. As the current system for approvals to judge will change on 31st December 2025, in order to be invited to judge your name and details MUST be recorded.
Now to show news: Boston Ch show was held on a Thursday as our breed was scheduled on the first day and what an interesting day it turned out to be. I would really like to thank those exhibitors, who despite their long journeys and reflecting on some excellent wins, many still found time to contact me with their results, I just hope I have managed to include you all – thanks so much as your news is also news for these notes.
In fact, it turned out to be quite a family affair for 2 kennels, all from a judge officiating on a first appointment for the breed, namely Keith Baldwin (Nightstorm). Who had only recently been approved via the Grandfather route for our breed but has judged, over the years sufficient numbers and had the support of the required number of clubs to enable him to access this method of approval. Based in Liverpool, Keith is approved for numerous breeds, including BIS and both the Working & Pastoral Groups, along with numerous breeds within other groups.
The entry was given as 33 males and 37 females with 11 marked absent. Here are the class placings for the dogs: Alone in MPD was Pat Corben’s Seoirsin Shooting Star via Capriora NAF/TAF. Also, alone in Puppy was Vince, Ladnar Call My Name. Rachel Tilley won Junior with Gemheid May’d of Amber for Detillio, a class of 3; Di Collino headed another class of 3 with Imaginist A Griffin’s Mark. Yvonne Ross won Post Grad with Siluto Blue Wizzards at Amberwish, beating Liz Walton’s Sassari Smudge who also went on to win both Spl Beginners and Good Citizen classes. Kelly Crawford came down from Scotland to win a full Limit class of 9 with Rodney, better known as Stregato Foolish Guy for Delseirios and how nice to see Angela Harvey back in the ring handling her Afterglow Invocation to win Open. Colin Bartram had the start of a nice day winning Veteran with Ambartr King of the Ring.

Having examined, and moved all, the CC, his first and his owner’s first green card went to Stregato Foolish Guy for Delseirios and a stunned Kelly Crawford. This sable is sired by Wicani Invoking Spirit out of Gemheid China Girl at Stregato and bred by Audrey Boyd and Wendy Magill. Wendy sent me a very newsy message to say how proud they were of Rodney, and Kelly and that what a pleasure it was to see Kelly, who is fairly new to the show scene and Rodney is her first ever show dog. I may be wrong but I think 2nd in Open was called for, this was Colin Bartram at Ambartr King of the Ring but the RDCC, his 3rd (or 4th) such award fell to the popular “Rune”. To give him is full name, Afterglow Invocation shown by Angela Harvey. Interesting to note that he has the same sire as the DCC winner, but his dam is Wicani Hot Property of Afterglow and he was, in fact, bred by Jason Lynn and Mike Gadsby and he was born in July 2020. Best Puppy dog went to Ladnar Call Me Name with Colin Bartram taking BVD.
MPB was won by Lenosann Wildest Dreams, alone for Denise and Samantha Vogan. Michelle and Jake won the PB class of 4 with Wicani Bellissima Rosschell. Colin Bartram returned to the ring to win Junior (3) with Ambartr’s Dignity and Pride who also won the next class, Yearling. PG was won by Afterhero Vanilla Chocolate for Wicani with Stregato (Imp Hungary) for Wendy and Audrey. This blue was attending just her 4th show and was imported by Angela Harvey and then went to live at Stregato with Wendy & Audrey. Heidi Gallagher had the thrill of another class win, Limit (5) with her Stregato My Silver Tassie with Gemheid, bred by Audrey & Wendy. Open had 5 present and this was won by Wicani Blue Myrabella and Angela Harvey. Marianne Benton won Veteran with Ch Brooklynson Jane Russell of Oakestelle VW ShCEx. Colin Bartram won Special Beginners with his Junior & Yearling winner whilst Chantique Tickety Boo for Jackson family and she had also been 3rd in Yearling and 2nd in Spl Beginners.
The BCC, her first went to Angela and Wicani Blue Myrabella, a blue, sired by Wicani Cloak and Dagger out of Wicani My Blue Veined Child at Stregato (who is also the mother of Stregato My Silver Tassie with Gemheid).She was born in June 2021. Another first award, the RBCC, went to Afterhero Vanilla Chocolate for Wicani with Stregato, known at home as Vanya, who had won PG. She is bred by Katalin Toth, Sired by Wicani Simon Templar out of Afterhero Gift from Evening Star who carries lines to some Marvalan breeding and other Wicani collies and this news too was passed on by Wendy, so the journey back to a “wet” Scotland was made so much quicker with all these results.

BPB went to Michelle handling Wicani Bellissima as Jake was busy in another ring and another note of interest, she is a daughter of the BCC winner. BVB was Marianne and Keira.
In the challenge for BOB, a delighted Kelly Crawford went forward to represent us in the group under Joe Smith, showing no signs of nerves, Kelly and Rodney did everything that was asked of them and also had support from those at ringside but did put up a great performance. The challenge between the two puppies went to Vince, Ladnar Call My Name and he went forward to the Group under John Purnell and came home with another Puppy Group Place 4. BVIB fell to Colin and his sable boy, Ambartr King of The Ring and his other winner, Ambartr’s Dignity and Pride also went forward to the Spl Beginners group under Russell Mosedale and Lucy Mottram respectively where he was short-listed.
To summarise, a first-time judge, awarded all 4 major awards to fairly new names to our roll of honour. All of these were sired by Wicani bred stock as were 16 of the 20 class winners. Both the DCC and RBCC winners carried the Stregato kennel name . The only collie to gain a group place was Ladnar Call my Name with PPG4, who, has, quite interestingly both Marvalan and Wicani parents in his 4th generation on his sire’s side and Ladnar and di Cambiano on his dam’s side
More news from Brenda Welsh, who writes that she had another lovely win with Gem, Thistlewing Magic Lady as they went to support another local Open show, this was a Ladies Kennel Association of Scotland where the judge was Mrs D Monthommery and came back home with BOB and a G3
One the same day, many gathered at Bagington for the 2 Open Shows held by Collie Association. Here both shows had similar entries, one being slightly higher than another.
At Show 1, the judges were Wendy Smith who had the well-known Gemastra collies and for the Smooths, Karen Angier of the equally well known Bilyara Border Collies and BIS was Kay Hateley very well known for her Mohnesee Shetland Sheepdogs but who also has an interest in Roughs and is a Ch show judge for both breeds.
Show 2 had Josie Large (Wizaland) and Di Collino (Imaginist) with Bev White (Maneric) officiating for BIS.
The committee, headed by Sheila Telford had set up for both shows and despite the changes in weather, rain/sun/wind/thunder etc all who attended appear to have spent a lovely time, also indulging in the superb and very reasonably priced refreshments supplied by Joanna Lake and Tracy Wilkinson who, I am told were kept busy all day.
At Show 1, Wendy Smith, who has been taking some time out from active judging, returned to the ring. She last judged, with CC’s in 2014 and has been judging at that level since 2003 and over the years produced many winners. g . Wendy found her Best Dog in Clovis, now Ch Beldones Ivory Star, for Brian &b Odile, with Chantique The Witcher taking RBD and BPD for Chan & Andre. Best Bitch was another win for Brian and Odile as Beldones Velvet Eyes took this award by winning Open. RBB was Takhisis Lady of Mystery BW24 for Sophie Wray-Ramsden. BPB to Aaronwell Another Love in the ownership of John Congdon. BVB was Keira and Marianne, Ch Brooklynson Jane Russell od Oakestelle VW ShCex. BOB Rough fell to Brian & Odile with Clovis, BPIB to Andre & Chan with Chantique The Witcher, attending his first show and BVIB to Keira.
BOB smooth was Blamorder Magic Maker with Freejack. Kay’s choice for overall BIS at Show 1 was Ch Beldones Ivory Star, Reserve BIS to the smooth, BPIS to “The Witcher” and BVIS also went to the smooth. So, many beautiful rosettes, specials and other items found their way into the cars of those involved.

Show 2 had a similar entry, slightly higher in some classes for Josie Large, an established judge in Border Collies. Her choice for BD was another win for Ch Beldones Ivory Star. RBD was Jo Williams with Mejola Top Gun. BPD was Chantique The Witcher with BVD also belonging to Jo, with Ch Mejola Fate and Fortune ShCex. In bitches, BB went to our Veteran star, Ch Brooklynson Jane Russell of Oakestelle VW ShCex and RBB to GIB Ch Serenlas Angel of Casatentola and Georgina Howard. BPB went to Michelle & Jake with Wicani Bellissima Rosschell. BOB Rough was Ch Beldones Ivory Star, with BVIB and RBOB to Marianne and Keira and BPIB to Chan and Andre with Chantique The Witcher. Smooths judged by Di Collino had their BOB as a repeat of Show 1.
Bev White had the honour of declaring BIS and this fell to Ch Beldones Ivory Star for the 2nd time in one day, RBIS to the smooth, BPIS to Chan & Andre with their puppy, BVIS to Koczkodan Serenity
