2024 review

Now to the first part of the 2024 Review of the show year and please accept my apologies for any errors/omissions as collating this review to include all winners at all shows may result in a few repeated names and, as I am only human, a few errors will be around
There were 39 of the 40 allocated Ch Shows held as the cancellation of Driffield Ch show, due to inclement weather conditions where the Committee decided in the interests of all, esp. with regard to safety, that they could not continue. Many other shows were affected by our weather, rain, mud etc and in some cases this did affect the entry.
Judges again were interesting, only Crufts, of the general Ch shows still appoints two judges and many of our Club Ch shows are now appointing just one judge. A sensible decision in view of the lower entries that have been received generally throughout the year. 12 of these judges were on their first appointment for the breed and looking at the names just 2 were classed as Breed Specialists, the remainder were mainly non-breed specialists or from overseas. From the remaining judges, quite a few were Non-Breed Specialists and on their 2nd or 3rd appointments and to date for these 40 shows there is a choice over  219 existing approved judges to select from, plus those already in the pipe line via Grandfather rights!
We lost CC status at Working & Pastoral Breeds of Wales but gained them at SWKA; Gained a set from East of England which was replaced by the new allocation at Boston
From all these judges we have gained final CC status (and more) resulting in 17 new Champions, made up of 9 males and 8 females.
In dogs, in alphabetical order were: Alfsden He Lives In You; Beldones Rocket Man; Beldones Toucher du Bois; Chantique Magical Mystery; Gataj Turn Back Time, Kourika You’ll Do For Me; No More Heroes du Clos de Sea-Wind; Phreelancer Chill Factor for Elshajo and Triburle Bluebolero and these boys accounted for 24 CC’s and 11 RCC wins between them
For the ladies, Collingvale Chin Chin Lynmead; Corydon Clarissa; Gataj Good Time Girl, Ingledene Sno Wanda, Ladnar Inkspot; Mejola Main Event; Phreelancer Phormal Dress and Skabona If I Saw You In heaven for Chelborn. The ladies annexed 20 CC’s and 12 RCC wins.
For those interested in colour breakdown,1 Tricolour, 3 Blue Merles and 5 sables males and for the ladies, 2 Tricolours, 2 Blue Merles and 4 Sables.
Under the new rules, introduced by the RKC concerning the collection of RCC wins in addition to those CC wins already acquired to gain Champion status, one of the first to be able to claim this new Ch title was the Blue bitch, Skabona If You Saw me in Heaven for Chelborn as although she did win a total of 5 big green cards in the year she also collected 7 smaller green ones and thus was eligible to claim.
There were quite a few “Short-Listings” in adult Pastoral groups for those who stayed but apart from a G1 gained by Marianne Benton and Keira (Ch Brooklynson Jayne Russell at Oakestelle VW) when she won the Veteran Pastoral Group at WKC; Jo Williams with Mejola Top Gun who gained a Junior G4 at City of Birmingham, along with a Special Beginners G3 for Dr Lynda Boyle and Timeless Destiny Star Actis Over Barrenclough at the same show, no rough actually gained a group place. Although there were numerous good Open Show wins and a couple of BIS all breeds and BPIS awards for the breed, so please see if we can improve on 2024.
Now to those results for “TOP OF” these may well differ from those already published in Our Dogs as they have been calculated purely on the following criteria: Number of Champions produced, plus number of CC’s and CC winners sired including RCC wins. The results of Top Puppy are not within my remit here as these results and criteria are in the hands of British Collie Club who announce the winner/s of the Ladypark Puppy Trophy at the Championship Show in March and any queries should be directed to BCC.
