Please note, news has come through of a change of judge at the forthcoming Scottish Collie Club Ch Show. Dogs will now be judged by Mrs Lesley Chalmers.

Now, news in from Maureen Timmins, Sec of the AICSS (All Ireland Collie & Sheepdog Society, twinned with Ayrshire Collie). They held their show last weekend with judge, Tom Conway, (Alwaycon) and although there were the usual absentees, the main winners were Sharon Drewery who took BD & RBIS with her Ch Evalane Memory of Monty at Elshadene, Best Brace with the same boy and Evalane Sticky Toffee Lollie, Open Dog with Ballahana Bon Jovi and also managed to win the very large stuffed toy Collie model, donated by Michelle Davis which had raised some good funds for the Club. Suzie Nealon won BIS with her Ezzmare Cradle with Love, RBB with Ezzmare Westside Pearl, Junior bitch with Ezzmare Majestic In Blue . BPIS was Marie Delany and her Bonnettsrath Raindance, with Bonnettsrath Heather Breeze, also owned and bred by Marie winning BPB. Open B also went to Marie with Bonnettsrath Golden Charm. In all a well-supported show, held outside in glorious sunshine much to the delight of all who attended.

The National Dog Show, Birmingham, now based at Stafford scheduled our breed for Friday, never a great day for travelling but actually received an excellent entry for another first-time judge namely, Mrs Judith Gregory of the Tonkory Border Collie fame as there were 101 entered and once again a few new names were added to our winners list for 2024.

Dog CC, from Veteran, following on from his wins at the recent SCC of GB Open shows was Ch Brooklynson El Dorado ShEx and Marianne Benton. This is, I think his 8th CC, repeating his win here last year when he won from Mike Vincent. In reserve, a new name of Brilyn Worth The Wait, who has been winning well since his show debut for owner/breeder Sue Hawkins. He is a sable, sired by Ch Magical Moon of Lowlands Green Valley for Chantique out of her own Brilyn Loves The Difference.
BCC, her 1st but she already has a RCC, was the winner of Open, Chelborn Gambler’s Wish for Vanessa Cronk, sired by Ch Skabona The Gambler at Chelborn out of Ch Chelborn Wish List and a RBCC for Josh Blackburn and Duna Jones with Erjon Evolving Beauty. Born in May 2022, this little lady is sired by Ch Ingledene Spirit of Legend out of Erjon Evolving Star.
BPIB was Simon Walder, handling his and wife Hannah’s Hanvale Patsy Stone and Dr Lynda Boyle annexed another Special beginner class with Barrenclough Heart of Gold JW

I saw a video of Vanessa in the Adult Group where Lynn Salt was judging and also, I understand Simon Walder was short-listed in the Puppy Group by Albert Wight but I am not sure if Dr Lynda Boyle made it into the Special Beginners group which was judged by Robin Newhouse.  

At The Thompson House Equestrian Centre, Standish, under the guidance of Secretary Ray Wilkinson (and his committee) Lancashire & Cheshire held a Ch show with CC’s for both Roughs & Smooths. The judges were for Roughs, the husband and wife duo of Morag & Jim McCarte (Roughrigg) and Bev White (Maneric) for smooths with Referee and BIS listed for Gwen Beadon.

Morag Mc Carte last judged at Irish Collie in 2022 and this was her 3rd appointment in the breed and had received an entry of 43 males. Her choice for the dog CC, his 2nd, went to Brian and Odile with Beldones Rocket Man who won Open. Sired by Ch Roughrigg Rag n Bone Man out of Beldones Corradina and he was born January 2021 and already holds a CC and a few RDCC wins.

Although some of the other class winners were re-considered, the RDCC went to Vanessa Cronk and her Chelborn That’ll Do who had stood 2nd in Open. He is a tricolour, and also has quite a few RCC’s to his name. Sired by Ch Chelborn Kiss Tell out of  Chelborn Wish List who is certainly proving herself to be a good producer as she is the dam of the BCC at the National.

There were 3 pups in consideration for BPD and these were: Salsina’s Red Hot Crush with Gataj, who was alone in MP for Melissa, and handled by breeder, Jayne Llewellyn  in the challenge, Prince of Sunlight Thrilled by the Difference at Gataj and Melissa Lockyer who won PD and Starlenga All About Majic for Corisian and Jo Brooker who took the award. He had won Maiden dog and if I recall correctly also won at BCC earlier in the year when he took Novice and BPD and RPIB.

Other class winners were: Camanna Cellmate for Anne Hassock and handled by Louis; Triburle Bluebolero for Christine & Noel; Hanvale Ralph Lauren who had been beaten in a previous class and also, I understand withdrew from one class as his owner realised he was “Over-Qualified”; Ladnar Dreamchaser for Sue Howard along with Ann Patterson and Val Newton; Hanvale Arthur Shelby with Damos handled by his breeder, Hannah Walder but actually owned by Ellie Fuller and the winner of Veteran Lynmack Starman at Lemivee in the ownership of Alex Mills and this may be his first Ch show Veteran win.

Now to husband Jim McCarte who last judged at CCW in 2022 with a first appointment in 2019 and he had received an entry of 55 ladies.

There were no MP ladies entered so the next two classes, P & Junior were won by Hannah Walder showing Hanvale Patsy Stone, who also BPB. Maiden followed with Dr Lynda Boyle winning with Timeless Destiny Star Actis Over Barrenclough but she had already been placed in a previous class and therefore not in the challenge. Hannah returned to the ring to win Novice. Graduate went to Julie Edwards and Camanna Paulara Sissy Spacek and Paulara Keep The Faith took PG for Charlene Turner but handled by Luis. Daphne Iley and her blue, Call Me A Dreamer in Blue Ileyda Della Verde Scozia JW won Limit and Riverside Song Desiderata At Aaronwell (Imp Rom) took Open for owner John Congdon but handled by Sue Hawkins. Veteran was the ever young Telforth Sweet Dreams to Corisian for Jo Brooker and family

The BCC, her 2nd went to the Open winner, and she adds this to her 1st CC won at the recent Scottish Breeds from Bill Rogerson who is the Chairman of L&C. Sired by Alsting New Horizon out of Lullaby du Clos de Sea-Wind. Jayne & Carl Llewellyn were 2nd to her and took back the RBCC with Artziak Strawberry Rose for Salsina (Imp Esp.) whose details were given when she won at MCC and WELKS.
BOB went to Odile and Brian with Rocket Man, BPIB to Starlenga All About Majic for Corisian and Jo also annexed BVIB with Dreamy.
Gwen Beadon chose for BIS, the smooth entrant, and the smooths also won BPIS along with BVIS leaving Rocket Man RBIS.
