As promised, and many thanks to Odile Hawkins-Foy who has let me have this short report on the recent ENE event held in France. ODILE writes: The judges were: Mrs Lagrollet Dominique (FR) Mr Brian Hawkins (GB) Mr Giles Mervant (FR)

Rough collies males judged by Mr Mervant : CACS and BOB The Rock Star des Conquetes de Don Juan;  RCACS Stonehaven Pride Hard Rock (Hun). Bitches were judged by Mr Hawkins : CACS : Seiya Del Valle de Los Leones and RCACS : Sunshine in Black du Clos de Seawind. Mrs Lagrollet was judging the youth and both winners were brother and sister namely Paulara Blaze of Glory and his litter sister Paulara Born to Be My Baby. Best Youth went to the girl. Both were born in England and belong to Luis and Charlene Turner. Many congratulations.
Smooths collies judged by Mr Mervant : CACS Olaf- Otto du Domaine de Docmael RCACS Sinatra des Troubadours d'Hajoula for the males. CACS : Rita Mitsouko du Domaine de Docmael RCACS R'Mine du Domaine de Docmael. BOB went to the champion class bitch : Oneway's Froken Fraken and she also took the BIS.

Over Bank Holiday we had some good Open Show results, firstly Vanessa Cronk went to  Stafford & Birmingham with Erica, Skabona If I Saw You In Heaven for Chelborn where breed and group judge was Jacky Cutler (Lankeela) and came back home with BOB and Pastoral G2, then a few days later set off again for Newbury where Southern Counties held their Ch Show. Just before that Pamela Rowlinson took her Hanvale Alexander McQueen, known at home as Storm to Reading Premier Show, held at Newbury. Krystian Greenland was judging with a good entry of 11, and came back with BOB, BPIB and Pastoral Puppy2, which qualifies him for Crufts next year, and all this, I understand at her first show!

Apologies to Maverick, aka Mejola Top Gun, I inadvertently gave you the wrong details for his sire last week. He is inh fact sired by Corydon The Ringmaster and not as printed. This following hisrecent CC win.

Now to the Championship Show, Southern Counties, held at Newbury where our breed had yet another first-time judge centre stage, although a very well-known judge in her home country of Finland, Saija Juutilainen is a Board Member of the Finnish Judges Committee along with other posts and she is approved to judge All Breeds. As a child her grand-parents had a rough but actually now  has Saluki and Labradors under the Wallaby’s kennel.
Held on a Friday, at Newbury Showground, although according to all accounts it was not the warmest of days. Roughs were 3rd in the ring, following Basenji and Deerhounds and at the end of this day, we have a 1st time CC winner, a new RCC winner, a 2nd CC winner and some confusion over the actual Best Veteran In Breed. Do allow me to try and explain!
As previously stated, and I cannot emphasise yet again, please do read the class definitions for each entry you make. They are not the same at each show and today, one of our more experienced exhibitors got caught out! Marianne Benton gladly let me know of this and she writes, for all concerned that prior to making her entry she did read the schedule concerning Veteran but omitted to read further on that BVIB would be confined to only those dogs entered in their Breed Veteran class.
SCCA only scheduled a MIXED VETERAN class and being the owner of 2 Veterans, a male and female,  that Marianne wished to show, entered the dog in Open and her bitch in the Veteran class.  In the challenge for BVIB, this was awarded to Ch Brooklynson El Dorado, who had actually won the Open Dog class!  over the actual veteran class winner, Vanessa Cronk’s Ch Chelborn Story Teller, however, on leaving the ring, the ring stewards caught up with Marianne and informed her that she was not eligible for the award as she should have been in the Veteran class  which states it is confined to dogs/bitches entered in the Veteran Breed, AVNSC, Import Register classes ONLY

The entry for this show as 24 males, 26 bitches and on the day, 5 of each sex were marked absent by Fosse Data.
Special Beginners was won by Michelle Chaplin and Takhisis Lysander; Di Collino took MP with Imaginist Griffins Mark followed by Sophie winning both Puppy and Junior with Takhisis Daggers at Dawn, Trevor Perrott handled Gataj Lightning Flash to win Yearling and Michelle Chaplin returned to the ring to win PG with Takhisis Lysander. Denisa Vescan and daughter Charlotte won Limit with Phreelancer Phinal Salute with Marianne winning Open with Pedro and Vanessa taking Veteran with Ch Chelborn Story Teller.

A first ever CC win went to Phreelancer Phinal Salute, who is a sable, born April 2021 and sired by Ch Corydon The Ringleader out of Ch Phreelancer Phaith Hill and bred by Lene Newman who was present to see this win. I cannot confirm if the 2nd in Limit was called in (Amalie Chance To Shine for Julia Bolt) but the RCC went to Sophie and Monty, Takhisis Daggers at Dawn. A sable, homebred he is sired by Hello Spank of Emiber, who stayed for a while with John & Caroline Tipper before returning back home. His dam is a daughter of Wicani Cloak and Dagger (Takhisis Midsummer Dawn) and he already has some good wins to his credit including a Green Star

MPB went to Stefani Flower and her (her words not mine) her Kangaroo, Serenlas Truly Scrumptious, followed by the Junior winner, Skabona If I Saw You in Heaven for Chelborn, Erica and breeder Natalia Skalin handling as the only PB entry was absent.  Vanessa came in to win Yearling with Chelborn Tell Me Your Wish. Jane Margetts brought out Lynmead Lemonade for Collingvale to win PG. Stefani returned to win Limit with the dam of the MP winner, Serenlas Pumpkin Spice whilst of the 2 entries in Open went to Miranda and Corydon Clarissa.

With some exhibitors having more than one exhibit in the challenge, handlers were required for all and Jake Walsh took over Serenlas Pumpkin Spice and won her 2nd CC. Her first came from Cathy Howard at YCC and she is sired by Ingledene Spirit n Venture out of Ch Serenlas Obsession. Natalia Skalin took the RBCC with Vanessa’s blue lady whose details were given previously when she won the CC at Bath from another first-time judge, Russell Jones.

Jake handled in the challenge and took BOB for Stefani and I understand that all those winners, BOB, BPIB, Best Junior all were shortlisted in their various groups.

Some late news in from Sophie Wray (Takhisis) - where Takhisis Daggers at Dawn won Best Puppy at Riddings and District Canine Society under judge Angela Harvey, Puppy Group 1 under Maureen Bywater and Reserve Best Puppy in Show under Pauline Smith.
