24th November 2023

Very little news this week, apart from the confirmation that there will be an “On-Line” BAD / MCE held by Northumberland and Durham Collie Club.
This will be the first club to actually hold theirs via Zoom, although many other breeds have done this with success. Many may feel that this is an “easy way” to answer the MCE, but I can assure you this is not so, as there are many precautions put in place to avoid those who may wish to have their own information close to hand!
If you are interested, this is due to be held Thursday 14th December at 7pm, via Zoom. The Breed Speaker, covering Breed History and the Breed Standard will be Miranda Blake. If wishing to take the subsequent MCE paper, (if you do not already award CC’s in other breeds) please ensure that you meet ALL the requirements for Level 1 of the JEP. Please contact the Secretary, Cath Leighton on kyleca1966@outlook.com
Now, with the show year close to its end, and planning for shows to be held not only 2024, but also 2025, here is some food for thought!!
If one were to view the RKC Find a Judge for our breed, we currently have 223 holding KC Approval to judge, this does not include those whose CV’s have already been submitted, or those going through via the old A2 or Grandfather and those currently working through the JEP. In all this adds up to a round figure of 250+. I hear you say, but not all judges who are listed by the RKC are in a position to actually judge, due to either age restraints or the fact they have not removed their names from the current list. Even so think about these numbers.
Shows where two judges are required, other than Crufts and most Club shows amount to just 13. The remainder, 26 normally appoint just a single judge so a total of 39 Ch shows during a normal year.
Registrations for our breed are at the lowest ever figures and by year end, we will probably fall into an “At Risk” breed with figures of below 500 puppies registered in a year.

Entries for the majority of shows are falling, so fewer dogs entered, societies will be finding the financial effects and some may even not be able to continue.
Therefore, and I am NOT going to work this out for you all, something has to change!!

Your thoughts and comments on these figures will be appreciated either by Social Media or e mail. Time is running out for our beloved breed
