Breed Notes
7th October

Last week all roads led to Belfast, this week, travelers made their way to Scotland for both Scottish Breeds and SKC, held at Edinburgh at the Royal Highland Centre in their exhibition halls
Friday saw Karen McDevitt on her 2nd appointment judging, her first was at Richmond in 2018 and her choice for the Dog CC was Ch Gataj Struck By Lightning, making it 3 CC’s at 3 consecutive shows. By now, you must all know his details! Taking the RDCC was one of our recently crowned Champions, Chelborn Story Teller for Vanessa Cronk who had stood 2nd in the Open class of 8 with no absentees marked.
Other class winners were   Thistlewing Andromeda (Miss Shorten) won Special Beginners Dog and best overall beating the bitch winner, Uffspring Uniquely Mayd for Whitecraigs (Mrs D Clarke-Kerr)
John & Caroline won MP with Tiganlea Top Notch, Michelle Mitchell piloted Avonfair Spellbound with Salsina for Jane & Carl Llewellyn in Puppy; Wilma Brodie took Junior with Shanaburn Country Road and Melissa stood alone in Yearling with Gataj Out Of The Woods, as did Charlene Turner’s Paulara No Where Man who won Limit. Veteran was won by Jive, Int Ch Jugband Blues du Close De Sea-Wind via Aaronwell for John Congdon and he won BVD and BVIB over Pauline Sibbald and her blue, Lynmead Amalie Love Is Blue at Telforth who won VB.
MP went to Hannah & Simon Walder with Tamira’s Miracles Cornflake Girl for Hanvale, Puppy to Charlene and Santin Dream du Clos De Sea-Wind. Michelle handled Avonfair Secret Love Letter to Salsina to win Junior for Jayne & Carl. Melissa won Yearling with Gataj Good Time Girl whilst John & Caroline won Graduate with Tiganlea True Hearts Desire. Salsina Secret Love Song at Avonfair won PG for Michelle Mitchell. Louise Walker won Limit with her tricolour Starlenga All About Me and Hannah & Simon took open with Beldones La Vita Bella for Hanvale. Karen’s choice for the CC was Louise and her tri, winning a 2nd CC. Her first came recently at CCW form Weil Smeijsters. The RBCC went to Hannah and Bella.
BPIB was Avonfair Spellbound with Salsina.  Scottish breeds has a very limited classification, obviously limited to just the native breeds in Scotland, therefore BIS/BPIS and BVIS are all judged together in the same ring but I have no news of our breed featuring. However, an interesting note, in the Stakes classes, judged by Mr I Millar, in the ownership of Mr & Mrs Holmes and Abby Lusty, a rough from 2 smooth parents (Ch Cardross Red Dirt Road to Blamorder ex Straightlines Universal Lady at Blamorder) called Blamorder Gold Plated and won 3rd in MP Rough class, followed by 3rd in Puppy Dog Stakes, beating Thistlewing Andromeda, then under Steve Hall won 4th in Junior Stakes.
Now to SKC, held at the same venue but with Dermot Timmins centre stage and it was a “Double Day” which I shall to explain later. Dermott, along with wife Maureen hold the Kynan affix in Ireland and have some good winners both at home at in the UK. He last judged dogs at Scottish Collie in 2019. Today his entry was 55 with the normal number of absentees. The first class was MP and this went to Tony & Daphne with Beldones Harry Styles at Ileyda. Puppy was another win for Avonfair Spellbound with Salsina. Robin Blaikie returned to his old stomping ground and won Junior with Kourika You’ll Do For Me; there were no yearling boys entered and only 1 present in PG, this was Demelewis Gang Leader owned by Mrs Garside. Limit had 5 present and was won by Charlene Turner’s Chantique Magical Mystery, handled as usual by Louis. Open had 6 present and winning this was Vanessa Cronk and her now Ch, Chelborn Story Teller. With no entries in Veteran, Special Beginners or Good Citizen, all were called back for the awarding of the CC which went to Vanessa and Storyteller, and this is his 4th CC, having taken his title at Richmond recently. Winning yet another RCC, his 6th (one day it will happen!) was Roughrigg Rag’n’Bone Man for Morag and Jim McCarte. BPD was Avonfair Spellbound for Jayne & Carl.
Now to the ladies, and in MP, the baby blue Delfuluvia Blue Raine for Paulara won this over another baby, Serenlas Angel of Casatentola. As an aside, she is owned by Georgina & Christopher Howard and carries the new affix of Casatentola, originally from the Tentola of her mum and dad, Nick & Ann Smith. Puppy was won by Roughrigg One of A Kind for Jim & Morag McCarte. Junior went to Avonfair Secret Love Letter to Salsina for Jayne & Carl Llewellyn, handled by Michelle Mitchell, her breeder. Charlene & Louis won Yearling with Paulara Keep The Faith. Post Grad went to another Roughrigg, this was Roughrigg Remember Me. Limit was won by Tony & Daphne with Arklethill Delilah at Ileyda and Open went to Vanessa with Chelborn Wish List. There were no Veterans and no Good Citizens, but Special Beginners went to Mrs Clarke Kerr with Uffspring Uniquely Mayd for Whitecraigs.
Making it the first of a “double day” and taking the CC, her 2nd I think, was Chelborn Wish List. Sired by Chelborn Decision out of Ch Chelborn Kiss’ n’Desire and she was born in January 2018 and won her 1st CC from Tony Iley at Lancs & Cheshire last year and has a RCC as well.  Taking the RBCC was the PG winner, Roughrigg Remember Me, sired by Lynmack Walk All Over You at Roughrigg out of Beldones Fun’n’Games at Roughrigg and she is a later litter sister to Rag’n’Bone Man. This is her first major award and this too was a double for Morag & Jim Carte. To make their day even better, BPB and BPIB was the bitch Roughrigg One of A Kind who is a daughter of the RCC winning bitch sired by Ch Gataj Struck By Lightning.
BOB was the tri dog for Vanessa, BPIB to Roughrigg One of a Kind and Best Special Beginner to the only one present, Uffspring Uniquely Mayd for Whitecraigs.
Finally a sad note from Vanessa, to say that Sandra Murphy, who was a full time carer for her husband Bill, sadly passed away last Thursday. Sandra also had an interest in Roughs and held the Sandcourt affix and along with help from Vanessa, they piloted Ch Chelhaven On A Promise to Sandcourt (Ch Chelborn Kiss n Tell out of Samhaven Promises Chelborn) bred jointly by Alison Grainger and Vanessa Cronk under their Chelhaven affix.
He won a total of 5 CC’s including Crufts 2013 and also G1 at SKC in the same year. To her family, including son, Shaun, we send our condolences .
