Rough Collie Breed Notes

Friday [24th July 2026]

Again, just the one main show to cover, this was West of England Collie Society, Club Championship show. Held under the Secretary, Margaret Scamp, this was held indoors at their usual venue of the Sedgemoor Auction Centre near Bridgewater.

Just a few days before the show, news came in from one of their nominated judges. Sue Hawkins, that she had broken her wrist and would not be able to officiate. WECS wish her a speedy recovery. Luckily, her co-judge, Michelle Mitchell was available and the entry of just 16 males was offered and accepted. The overall entry was originally 53 in total, made up of 16 males and 37 females but on the day there was a total of 17 missing.

Dog CC was another for Ch Gataj Turn Back Time, handled in the challenge by Graham. This sable boy now has collected his 7th CC and taking the RDCC was his son, Gataj Just Like Jesse James. With BPD going to Chan and Andre with Chantique Will O The Wisp and no Veteran dog was declared as it was absent. For the ladies, a 2nd CC, following on from a 1st at Mid Counties from Karen Colman-Smith was the sable Artzaiak Strawberry Rose for Salsina, piloted by Jayne Llellwyn and co-owned his husband Carl. She is sired by Juicy Couture of Lowlands Green Valley out of Artzaiak Secondhand Rose at Salsina, born in June 2021. She won the Open class and adds this CC to her collection of numerous reserve CC wins.

A delighted Jane Margetts was quick to let me know that she and her sable lady, Tilly, known as Lynmead Designer Tipple for Collingvale, took the RBCC. Bred by Caz Waterhouse, she was born in November 2024, sired by Mr Burberry of Lowlands Green Valley at Chantique out of Lynmead Waiting For Love and she won the Special Yearling Class of 2 present. Chan & Andre won BPB with Chantique the Witching Hour, who is a litter sister to the BPD, both sired by Ch Born To be Quite Famous Lynmead out of Chantique Fairy Magic and celebrate their birthdays next month.

Michelle selected for BOB Rough, Jayne Llewellyn and Artzaiak Strawberry Rose and chose Chantique The Witching Hour for BPIB. Best Veteran was another nice win for Hannah Lyall and her Santaloly’s Sky Amidalas (Ch Triburle Celtic Touch ( Ch Jopium Touch of Soul for Triburle ex Ch Salsina Celtic Rosebud for Triburle) out of Santaloly’s Golden Dream (Ch Jopium Touch of Soul for Triburle ex Markenfields Dream of Gold for Santaloly) and born in May 2015.

Smooths had CC’s today and they were judged by Valerie Geddes and her choice for BOB was Ann French and the sable Breckamore Bobby Dazzler at Swanndale, previously owned in partnership by the late Julia Swann.

BIS judge was Ann Smith, Tentola, approved for both Rough and Smooth and her choice for BIS was limited as the BOB smooth did not enter the ring for the final challenge!

According to the information supplied to me by the Secretary of the WECS, as yet no official catalogue, but here are the results the Secretary has submitted. BIS was awarded to the BOB Rough Bitch, RBIS to the RBOB Smooth, (who had been beaten by the BOB Smooth who did not enter the ring for the challenge) BPIS to the Rough Puppy and Best Veteran to the Smooth

There is something amiss with this result and I leave you all with this information!

Finally, please familiarise yourself with the current F1 Show Regulations, available in a small booklet form which you can keep in the show bag for just £5.00 as I have seen far too many comments, on social media, recently quoting in-accurate information. Thank you
