Rough Collie Breed Notes

Another fairly busy weekend for some, as there were 2 Ch shows to attend, Paignton on Friday and EACA Ch on Sunday
Paignton is held at Westpoint Arena, a few miles off the M5. However, during the holiday season and being a works day, also proved to cause traffic issues for many of those attending as some were held up in traffic around the Bristol area.
Luckily for Roughs, they had been scheduled 3rd in the ring behind Rottweilers and Bearded Collies. All these were judged by Elina Haapaniemi, from Finland and for some a new name. Elina is an International FCI judge, who also awards RKC CC’s to 52 breeds and has judged the Pastoral Group at Midland Counties, Southern Counties and WELKS.
Her original entry was 54, but as usual absentees accounted for around 10, and at the start of the day, causing some consternation to exhibitors, both the MP entry of 1 and Post Grad entry of 2, the awards were with-held.
If, in the opinion of the judge, awards can be with-held, it should not come as a surprise so accept decisions as they arrive.
There were just 14 males present and winning Open was Robin Blaikie and his blue boy, Kourika The Gigolo who was then awarded the CC, his 3rd. Homebred he is sired by Kourika King Pin out of Kourika Dressed to Thrill and he was born in July 2023. Gaining his 1st CC at Scottish Collie in 2024 from Lesley Chalmers, his 2nd at Driffield in 2025 from Cathy Proctor and has a collection of smaller green cards as well.
Winning Limit, was Susan Hawkins with her tricolour, Serenlas Black Magic. Bred by Stefani Flower, it was the start of a wonderful day for Serenlas.  This tri boy is sired by Ingledene Spirit’n’Venture out of Serenlas Pagan Moon and he was born in Oct 2021 and this is his first “Big Award” for Susan.
As there were no puppies eligible for BPD (With-held in MP and no entry in Puppy) there was no award. Best Veteran dog went to Anne-Marie Drougge from Sweden with Nor/DK/Int Ch Belrosa Always On My Mind who was the single entry. Sired by Milas Temptation out of Milas fascination and born in March 2018.

There were a few more ladies present and at one point, Melissa Lockyer was looking for handlers as she won classes with Gataj Miss Sparkles, Your Majesty Angel Silvestre at Gataj, Gataj All That Glitters and Gataj Exotic Girl. Winning  Open was Serenlas Pumpkin Spice and she then took her 3rd CC and title. Litter sister to Serenlas Black Magic, her CC’s came from Cathy Howard at L&P in 2022, her 2nd at Southern Counties under another Finnish Judge, Mrs S Juutilainen and also has a small collection of RCC wins and is a grand-daughter of Stefani’s first Champion, Serenlas Obsession.
Having won Veteran, an old friend, Ch Ingledene Sno Wanda annexed another RCC to add to her collection. She is a blue, sired by One Extraordinary Blu di Cambiano out of Ch Ingledene Spirit of Ecstasy and already has 7 CC wins to her name and so far, has collected 2 more RCC wins this year and in the challenge took BVIB
Winning BPB and automatically BPIB was Gataj Miss Sparkles for Melissa.
Other awards won were Best Special Beginners (D/B) a class of 2, which was won by Kelly Mason and her Elshajo Bold Over for Lynocean. (Starlenga Harry Potter ex Salsina Sharing Secrets) and born April 2023.
BOB went to Stefani and Pumpkin Spice but under Sally Duffin, the Group Judge, did not feature. However, I have been informed that all managed to get into their respective groups, even if they were starting to call for them whilst our dog judging was in progress

EACA had their Ch Show at the usual venue of Littleport Community Centre, and I would like to thank Show Secretary, Jo Williams for all her help in collating and sending results.
A novel idea, instigated last year, was the ordering of a “Fish & Chip” lunch from the local chippy who offered a limited menu to those wishing to take part, a great idea for all.
Here, EACA had these judges for their event, Gary Gray (Slatehouse) and Nick Smith (Tentola) with Shelley Skinner doing Smooths without CC , Elaine Cowling for the SAC Classes and BIS was Lisa Pettitt (Lakebank)
Gary last judged at SKC in 2021 and prior to that at Bournemouth in 2019. His entry was somewhat smaller than expected, just 21 but included a few from Europe but unfortunately due to issues with his car, Gary contacted EACA and let them know he was unable to attend.
This is a nightmare for any Secretary, but, as Nick Smith had no forward appointments, it was agreed that he take over the entry from Gary.
Nick has the Tentola Affix and last judged Roughs at East of England in 2021, prior to that at Birmingham National in 2018 and his entry was 43.
With judging advised for Bitches at 9.30am, followed by the dogs, there was not too much to alter, only to advise those with males of a Change of Judge and they would follow on from the ladies.
Of Nick’s entry, 6 were absent and all the following were class winners:
Veteran had Tudorlyn Dusty Moonheart for Marianne & Steven Gentry winning, Sophie had entered her Takhisis Lady Is A Tramp in MP and also Novice. Puppy had Aldredelie Ancient Ruins winning Puppy for Claire & Justin Walker. Mejola Some Girls Do won Junior for Jo Williams who also won Yearling with Mejola Edge Of Glory. PG went to Serenlas Truly Scrumptious and Stefani Flower; Mid Limit went to Thistlewing Gold Mist for Brenda Welsh. Limit was Siluto Blueberry Mis JW for Gill Whitaker. Open was won by Thistlewing Magic Lady (dam of T.Gold Mist) and alone in the Ch class was Vanessa and her Ch Chelborn Tell me Your Wish. Spl Beginners was won by the puppy, Aldredelie Ancient Ruins.
In the challenge, Nick awarded the BCC, her 5th. To Vanessa and Ch Chelborn Tell Me Your Wish, sired by Ch Skabona The Gambler at Chelborn out of Chelborn That’ll Be A Wish, she was born July 2022 and collected all her previous CC wins last year.
The RBCC went to Thistlewing Gold Mist, for Brenda, but handled in the challenge by Cathy, She is sired by Thistlewing Smokey Quarts out of the dual CC winning Thistlewing Magic Lady and was born in October 2023. BPIB went to Sophie, BVIB to Dusty Moonheart
Now to the males,  all the following were class winners:  DK/Ch Int Ch Ni Norsk Ch Belrosa Always On My Mind, repeating his win at Paignton, a few days before. He is owned by Anne-Marie Drougge Sired by Milas Temptation out of Milas fascination and born in March 2018.
Corydon The Visionary won MP for Maxine, alone, as was Kelekona Hearts of Fire and Cathy Cooper who won Puppy. Susan Thorne won Junior with Chelborn Look At Me. Novice was absent. Post Grad went to Classic Scots Patrick Swayze (Imp Due) in the ownership of Megan Gatt and Angela Harvey. Mid Limit had no entries but Janine Hanson won  Limit with Jards Ring Presence. Open had 2 of the 3 entered present and this went to Kelekona Hearts of Gold JW for Cathy Cooper. Anne-Marie Drougge won Ch male with her other entry, Norsk Ch DkCh Belrosa If I Can Dream and to complete the winners, was Megan Gatt, who won Spl Beginner with her Imaginist Superior Sam with Bearven.
Dog CC, his 2nd went to Cathy Cooper and Kelekona Hearts of Gold JW, whose 1st CC came recently from Finnish judge, Mr Timonen at Southern Counties. Just to refresh your memory, he is sired by Ch Ladnar Mustriharder out of Lilth Nar Sule of Kelekona and celebrated his birthday 31st July. RDCC went to delighted Janine Hanson and Jards Ring Presence. He is sired by Corydon The Ringleader out of Ingledene Ebony Lace at Jards and born Ocotber 2020. BPD was Cathy and her Kelekona Hearts of Fire with BVD going to Anne-Marie and Belrosa Always On My Mind.

Nick’s choice for BOB fell to Vanessa, with Thistlewing Gold Mist taking RBOB. Cathy Cooper took BOSIB and Sophie annexed both BPIB and Best Minor Puppy in Breed. Best Veteran was Belrosa Always On My Mind.
Nick also judged the Barbara Blake Memorial Open Stakes class of 12 entries and Prize money and this went to Vanessa, followed by  the smooth Blamorder Double Or Quits of Oakestelle JW.
The SAC Classes judged by Elain Cowling (Himinnsaga) had only entries from the Smooths, and BOB Smooth, judged by Shelly Skinner went to Blamorder Double Or Quits of Oakestelle JW

Lisa Pettitt, long time Committee member and stalwart for EACA had been offered the honour of BIS. Choosing Vanessa for BIS, the smooth for RBIS, BOSIS to the rough male, Best Puppy and Best Minor Puppy In Show to Sophie and her tri lady. Best Veteran went to Anne-Marie and Always On My Mind and Best Special Beginner in Show was a lovely win for Claire & Justin Walker with their Aldredelie Ancient Ruins, sired Wisewyn Take Me Away out of Aldredelie Adventurer and born in Oct 2025.
All winners and runners up received appropriate sashes, rosettes and prize cards and started on their homeward journey after the required “Photo Call” all sorted by Secretary Miranda, just back from her trip to Australia. – Hope the jet lag clears!!
