Rough Collie Breed Notes

All roads led to the Royal Welsh Showground for both WKC and CCW Ch shows.
Where the breed had 3 judges, Bev White (Maneric) at WKC and at CCW there was Ann Smith (Tentola) and Jan Milligan (Alfsden) along with Jo Williams (Mejola) for the scheduled smooth classes. Jayne Llewellyn (Salsina) for BIS
Prior to judging at both shows, a moment of reflection was held for my mother, Aileen Speding, who was Patron of CCW.
At WKC, Bev White, who last judged at SKC in 2024, had an original entry of 70/74, comprising of 26 males and 44 ladies, however with absentees on the day resulted in just 22 dogs and 27 ladies present.
Taking a 2nd CC, handled by Jake Walsh, was Angela & Keith Harvey with their  entrant, Afterglow Invocation. Having taken his 1st CC at Border Union earlier this year from Derek Allsopp this shaded sable was actually bred by Messrs Jason Lynn and Mike Gadsby. Born July 2020 he has been collecting top awards. Sired by Wicani Invoking Spirit out of Wicani Hot Property of Afterglow and he won the Open class of 7 with 1 absent and interesting to note, this boy collected the RDCC last time Bev judged.
Taking home, a 2nd RCC was the blue, Chelborn Look At Me, who is owned by Sue Thorne and bred by Vanessa. Sired by Kourika You’ll Do For Me out of Ch Skabona If I Saw You In Heaven for Chelborn. His previous win was at Birmingham National earlier this year from Christine Biggs.
 BPD was decided between Beldones Mr Kite for Brian and Odile and Cathy Cooper and Kelekona Hearts of Fire. Family Allsopp were represented by their tricolour boy, Aqualita It’s a Miracle who was alone in Veteran.
Taking a quick 4th CC here was Ch Serenlas Pumpkin Spice and owner Stefani Flower. She gained her crown at Paignton. Sired by Ingledene Spirit’n’Venture out of Serenlas Pagan Moon and she was born in October 2021. She won the Open class of 10 with 3 absent. Taking the RBCC was also from the same class, this was Ch Skabona If I Saw You in Heaven for Chelborn (Imp Swe). Bred by Bo & Natalia Skalin, she was born in January 2023 and sired by Int Ch Rising Light of Scotland Yard out of Int Ch Skabona Knocking On Heaven’s Door and she is a blue and  dam of the RDCC winner today.
Afterhero Fantasma, in joint ownership of Jake Walsh, Michelle Davis, Abby Lusty and young Alan Walsh won MP beating the PB winner Sophie and Takhisis Lady Is A Tramp. Veteran went to Val with Ch Ingledene Sno Wanda who was alone in this class.
In the challenge, Bev opted for Stefani and Ch Serenlas Pumpkin Spice for our Group representative under Christina Bailey but to no avail.  BPIB to the multi owned Afterhero Fantasma sent forward for Lorraine Bolton. BVIB to Val and Ch Sno Wanda group judge here was Darren Clarke.  Our representative for the Special Beginners group, judged by Sally Duffin was the only entrant Aldredelie Bea Shilling and owner Mrs D Pritchard and many congratulations are due here as they collected a good G3.
Val had also entered the Veteran Stakes here and won the class of 28, with 19 marked absent, judged by the Norwegian Mr A Gjenes a Hound Specialist. Ironically, her prize for this lovely win was a voucher for an overnight stay at the local Metropole Hotel including Dinner, Bed and Breakfast. I am sure Val can see the amusing side to this lovely win.
Now to the Collie Club of Wales, it may well be our youngest breed club, being founded in 1961, but CCW is probably the most stable by way of Officers. Today, current Secretary, Christine Collins was surprised to receive many gifts in respect of her 40 years as Secretary. I can only recall just 1 general Ch Secretary of similar  standing. Christine joined the CCW as a mere youngster of 16 but due dedication saw her rise from Cup Steward a year later when she joined the Committee. After the retirement of Secretary, Prue Green (Coverdales) in 1986 ,the post was filled by Christine,  She has guided the club through good and not so good times but even with a small committee  and a very supportive husband in Noel, CCW have always had the exhibitor in mind for all their shows. Often giving many a first CC appointment and supporting both breeds with a well-run Ch show and an Open show all held with a friendly, jolly atmosphere.
Today, held in conjunction with WKC, a 33 class Sub-Group Ch show had received an entry of 68 roughs for the 2 judges, Jan Milligan (Alfsden) and Ann Smith (Tentola) and an entry of 40 smooths for Jo Williams (Mejola). With Jayne Llewellyn (Salsina) officiated for Best In Show.  
On behalf of the Committee of CCW, just a thankyou to all who contributed to celebrate Christine’s Anniversary. A very large card which included photo’s from previous events, on the front, flowers, a special crystal jug (and there is a story to this) along with various vouchers and cash donations and a David Austin Rose for her garden. All of which were a great surprise for her and very much appreciated.
Once again, the coveted Dragon Statues were on offer for BOB and BP Rough, donated by Marina McLaughlin (Brihow) and for the smooths by Amy Kinsey and Keira Martin. Other Commemorative gifts for BIS and BPIS donated by previous Treasurer, Phyllis Parry.
Jan Milligan was completing just her 2nd appointment for the breed having judged at EACA last year for bitches. There were 30 entries but just a few missing. Her choice for the CC, was a first for Dave & Sue Randall with Ladnar Call My Name JW, following a string of RCC wins. Sired by Myriehewe London Calling out of Ladnar Izadorable and Vince was born in Aug 2024 and hardly been out of the ring since his show debut and today, he won from Post Graduate.
The RDCC went to Brian & Odile with Clovis, Ch Beldones Ivory Star who won Open. Just a quick refresher, Clovis is sired by Ch Camanna Code Name out of Beldones Ebony and Ivory.
BPD went to Beldones Mr Kite, making his debut from MP, a son of Ch Ivory Star and out of Beldones Shangai Surprise beating the other puppy winner, Cathy Cooper and Kelekona Hearts of Fire. Not content with winning the DCC, Dave Randall handled Ch Ladnar Mustriharder to win BVD. Other to win classes were: Gataj Just Like Jesse James and Melissa; Kourika Dancing On Ice for Robin Blaikie; Imaginist A Griffin’s Mark and Di Collino; Gemheid May’d of Amber for Detillio and Rachel Tilley. Shelley Skinner, with a full brother to Ladnar Call Me Name JW, and Ladnar Makeithappen for Nikal, won Limit.

Ann Smith, also on her 2nd appointment having judged bitches at EACA in 2021. Perhaps better known for their smooth collies, Ann and husband Nick hold the Tentola affix.
Her choice for the BCC went to the winner of Open, Takhisis Lady of Mystery, and Sophie Wray-Ramsden, who currently holds a few titles gained from abroad, and with this CC, it may not be too long before she adds a UK title to her name.  Sired by Ch Magical Moon of Lowlands Green Valley for Chantique (imp Fra) out of Takhisis Lady of Illusions and born in Nov 2021. Her 1st CC came from Irene Buchannan-Green at Border Union last year.
The RBCC was a nice win for Hannah Walder with Roughrigg Red Lagertha JW who had won Limit. Bred by Morag and Jim McCarte she is sired by Hanvale Arthur Shelby with Damos out of Beldones Fun’n’Games at Roughrigg and celebrates a birthday in November and already holds 2 big green cards along with a few RBCC.
Best Puppy bitch was Takhisis The Lady Is A Tramp who won both MP, Puppy and Novice for Sophie and the Veteran entry was absent. Other class winners were: Your Majesty Angel Silvestre at Gataj and Melissa; Beldones Rich Velvet and Julie Edwards. PG was Essanjay Heartbreaker for Jan Williams.
In the challenge for BOB, I understand that neither judge could agree and the services of Jayne were required, with the result going to Sophie and RBOB to Hannah. The same issue arose for BPIB which went to Beldones Mr Kite and BVIB was automatic to Ch Ladnar Mustriharder.
