A Polite Reminder to Puppy Buyers

Reputable breeders listed on Collielife welcome questions and are usually more than happy to chat about all things Collie. If you're interested in one of their puppies, it's only natural to want to know as much as possible about the puppy, its parents and the breeder.

In the same way, breeders will want to know a little about you, your home and your circumstances, so please don't be offended if they ask lots of questions. They put a huge amount of time, care and dedication into raising their puppies and naturally want to make sure they are going to the very best homes.

Unfortunately, more and more breeders are finding their time is being wasted by people who make lengthy enquiries, ask lots of questions, agree to have a puppy and, in some cases, even pay a deposit, only to change their mind or simply stop replying.

Of course, circumstances can change and breeders completely understand that. But please remember that once you have committed to a puppy, the breeder may have turned away other lovely homes because they genuinely believed that puppy had found its home with you.

If you're not completely sure, that's absolutely fine; just be honest and say so. Ask questions, take your time and make sure a puppy is right for you, but please don't commit to one or pay a deposit unless you are genuinely ready to welcome that puppy into your home.

Breeders simply ask that enquiries are made in good faith and that their time, the care they put into their puppies and the value of those puppies are respected. Raising a litter properly involves a huge amount of time, care, worry and dedication, often long before the puppies are even born.

Responsible breeders aim to price their puppies fairly. The price of a puppy reflects health screening, quality nutrition, veterinary care and responsible breeding practices, as well as the time and dedication that goes into raising happy, healthy and well-socialised puppies.

All puppies advertised on Collielife, if born in the UK, will be Kennel Club registered before going to their new homes.
