The Collie Club of Wales Championship Show
16th April 2022
I would like to thank the committee and officers of the club for this invitation, particularly Christine (Secretary) whose organization was excellent considering the timing of the situation throughout the day, and Marina McLaughlin, whose first class stewarding skills helped things run so smoothly.
MINOR PUPPY DOG (1)
- Barron & Jenkins RANNALEROCH PERFECT STORM, 7 month blue merle with good reach of neck, good bone and pleasing head for age. Correct eye and ear carriage. Still needs to tighten on the move, but showed well for a youngster. Would prefer him a better colour.
PUPPY DOG (4)
- Blaikie’s KOURIKA YOU’LL DO IT FOR ME. Masculine tricolour puppy, well boned and good depth of body and spring of rib. Very pleasing head properties with clean head, good muzzle and correct well placed stop. Correct dark eye and pleasing expression. Good reach of neck and good ear carriage. Moved freely but needs to settle and control his tail on the move. BPD
- Chaplain’s TAKHISIS LYSANDER. Sable/white of good size, pleasing overall shape. Would prefer him more refined in heat at this age. Presented and moved well.
- White’s PHREELANCER PHEDERAL AGENT AT MEJOLA.
JUNIOR DOG (3)
- Lockyer’s GATAJ OUT OF THE WOODS. S/w with pleasing head properties, correct dark eye. Good neck and body shape. Well presented. Moved well front and rear.
- Scott’s SHERLOCK HOLMES OF MOON RIVER FOR CHANTIQUE. Tricolour who possesses the correct eye and desired expression. Showed and presente4d well, very pleasing clean head properties. Would like him more positive.
- McCarte’s ROUGHRIGG RED ALL OVER.
YEARLING DOG (3)
- Walker & Ritchie’s STARLENGA CURIOUS GEORGE. Sable & White in excellent coat and condition. Moulded foreface and good underjaw, with correct eye, good ear carriage and pleasing expression. Presented and moved well.
- Boyle’s MONSOLANA ASPIRE TO DREAM OVER BARRENCLOUGH (naf/taf). Tricolour with good body shape and good length, who covered the ground well on the move. Pleasing head properties and very nice eye. His ear set ruins the picture and if he would only use them better, it would enhance his chances.
- Lockyer’s STARLENGA ELIJAH BLUE AT GATAJ
NOVICE DOG (2)
- McCarte’s R. RED ALL OVER. Masculine s/w with good reach of neck and body shape. Moved freely and presented well.
- Barron & Jenkins’ R. PERFECT STORM
GRADUATE DOG (1)
- Dix’s BARRENCLOUGH DIAMOND SKIES. Not in the best of coats today and I felt he could be more positive on the move. He as a pleasing head and eye. Tighter ear carriage would enhance his chances.
POST GRADUATE DOG (5, 1)
- Cronk’s CHELBORN THAT’LL DO. This tricolour has superb head qualities. Well rounded muzzle, good underjaw, correct, well placed stop and a beautiful masculine eye and expression. Good reach of neck and good depth and shape to body. Moves freely.
- Llewellyn’s FRIDENS XTRA CHANCE FOR SALSINA (IMP.RUS). Another tricolour with pleasing head properties. Correct, well placed stop, correct dark eye and good ear carriage, giving the desired expression. Good reach of neck and depth & length of body. Moved and showed well, although I felt that once at the table, where he was more relaxed, he gave a far better picture of himself.

MID LIMIT DOG (4)
- Edwards’ STARLENGA HARRY POTTER FOR ELSHAJO. S/w shown in excellent coat and condition. Could be cleaner in head and I would prefer less depth of skull. Pleasing eye and good ear carriage. Masculine in conformation and well boned. Showed and presented himself well.
- Boyle’s BARRENCLOUGH HEART OF GOLD JW. Presented in good coat, good neck and body shape. He moves well but when it came to presenting himself, he really did not want to know today.
- 3. Jones’ BROOKLYNSON BLACK DIAMOND WITH DANCOL.
LIMIT DOG (7, 1)
- Congdon’s STARLENGA ALL THAT JAZZ FROM ARRONWELL. Tricolour of good size. Good reach of neck and well balanced in conformation. Pleasing head and correct shaped eye, good stop and ear carriage, giving the desired expression. He moved freely.
- Lockyer’s GATAJ STRUCK BY LIGHTENING. S/w with very good head properties, clean with good foreface, correct stop, good ear carriage and nice eye and expression. Good reach of neck, presented and moved well.
- Bluck’s PHREELANCER CHILL PHACTOR FOR ELSHAJO
OPEN DOG (10, 3)
- McCarte’s ROUGHRIGG RAG ‘N’ BONE MAN. S/w of quality. Excellent head properties and the cleanest of skulls with no exaggerations. Correct well placed stop, correct shaped dark eye and ear carriage, giving the desired masculine expression. Good reach of neck, correct front and well balanced body, with free movement. Held his tail well on the move and was presented in excellent coat and condition. He won a very good class of dogs, and I was pleased to be able to award him the CC today.
- Grainger’s CH. SAMHAVEN BALLAHANNA BANJO. S/w immaculately presented as always by this exhibitor. A worthy champion, he has excellent head properties, clean and without any coarseness. Correct eye and good ear carriage. Well rounded muzzle and correctly placed stop and good skull, giving true collie expression. Good reach of neck, and balanced in conformation. Just could not get it together on the move today, which cost him in the class. RCC.
- Cronk’s CH & INT.CH. SKABONA THE GAMPLER AND CHELBORN.
VETERAN DOG (2)
- Congdon’s CH/FR CH. JUGBAND BLUES DU CLOS DE SEA-WIND VIA AARONWELL (IMP.FRA). When I last judged I awarded this dog the CC, and my opinion of him has not changed, but he had to give way to the more youthful dogs today. Blue merle with good head properties, very nice eye and expression. Presented himself well today and moved freely. Best Vet. In Show.
- Steven’s CARIADHAF CRAZY DREAM. S/w presented in excellent coat and condition. Pleasing head and good reach of neck and body shape. Moved freely.
MINOR PUPPY BITCH (3, 1)
- Lockyer’s SHINING STAR DU CLOS DE SEA-WIND AT GATAJ. Feminine s/w with very nice eye and expression. Pleasing head properties, good reach of neck and balanced body. Moved well and performed well for a youngster.
- Scott’s TORRINO RENESMEE FOR CHANTIQUE. Beautifully marked blue merle. Good head properties with very good ear carriage, lovely eye and expression. Good reach of neck and shape. Presented and moved well. A close run decision between these two.
PUPPY BITCH (12, 2)
- White’s MEJOLA MAIN EVENT. S/w who excels in balance and conformation. Beautifully presented and covers the ground with ease on the move. Pleasing head properties with clean head, correct stop and flat skull. With time on her side, she should have a very good show career. BPIS
- Randall’s LADNAR IZADORABLE. Well marked blue merle. Another who shows good promise. Good in conformation and moves well. Presented in good coat and condition. Clean head with no exaggerations and good ear carriage with pleasing eye and expression.
- Walker & Ritchie’s STARLENGA NINA SIMONE.
JUNIOR BITCH (2)
- Barron & Jenkins’ TAKHISIS SUMMER SOLSTICE AT RANNALEROCK. S/w, good reach of neck and length of body. Would prefer better head properties.
- Ware’s OLD GOLDEN GATES EVOLUTION IN BLUE AT WASSAIL. Nicely marked blue merle. Moved freely and presented well. Just too small.
YEARLING BITCH (2, 1)
- Larkin’s RAHLISSA TOFFEE CAKE FOR DENORA. S/w with good head properties. Correct eye and good ear carriage giving a pleasing expression. Good body shape and moves well. It will be interesting to watch how she matures on.
NOVICE BITCH (5, 3)

- Spendelow’s RIVERSIDE SONG NARAYANA AT UFFSPRING (IMP.ROM) Blue merle of pleasing colour, good head properties, correct ear carriage, nice eye and expression. Presented a balanced picture, oved and presented well.
- T. SUMMER SOLSTICE AT R.
GRADUATE BITCH (7)
- Iley’s ARKLETHILL DELILAH AT ILEYDA. My best puppy last time I judged the breed, and I am pleased that she has gone on to mature into the collie she is today. Quality all through with her excellent head, clean with no exaggerations, correct, well placed stop. Dark correctly shaped eye and good ear carriage, giving a true collie expression. Very good reach of neck, and well balanced in conformation. Good length and good turn of stifle and angulation. Good tail carriage and covers the ground on the move as you would expect from one so well put together. My CC winner in what turned out to be an excellent line up of bitches, and was pleased to see her go BIS today.
- Walker & Ritchie’s STARLENGA ALL ABOUT ME. Only after something like the pandemic would you find two quality bitches in a graduate class. This young tricolour bitch has everything in the right proportions. Very pleasing head qualities with no exaggerations. Well placed stop and good ear carriage, correctly shaped dark eye, giving a feminine expression. Stand back and look at the overall make and shape, and you have a well -balanced picture, and although she has very little white around the collar, she shows off her lovely arched neck. Moved out and presented well. RCC and pleased to see her go RBIS.
- McDade’s LYNDALE ILLUSION OF LOVE.
POST GRADUATE BITCH (6, 1)
- Scotts CHANTIQUE DEJA. S/w with good head, correct stop, nice eye and well moulded, with no exaggerations. Good reach of neck. She moved and was presented well, in good coat and condition.
- Edwards & Bluck’s PAULARA LUCY IN THE SKY FOR ELSHAJO. Pleasing type with good reach of neck and good length & depth in body. Presents a good picture standing and moved well.
- Edwards ELSHAJO ADORED.
MID-LIMIT BITCH (4,2)
- Randall’s LADNAR INKSPOT. So much to admire about this tricolour bitch. Balanced throughout with excellent head, correct muzzle and well placed stop, good ear carriage, giving an very pleasing expression. Sound on the move but very unsettled today and threw away her chances.
- Congdon’s STARLENGA ALL MY LOVE TO AARONWELL. Tricolour with pleasing head, good reach of neck, depth and length to body. Moved freely and presented well.
LIMIT BITCH (12, 4)
- Tame’s RIVERSIDE SONG XTRA SWEET AT RAHLISSA (IMP.ROM.) Golden s/w Presented very well in very good coat and condition. Very nice eye and feminine expression. Her head is clean with no exaggerations. Correct well placed stop and good skull. Good reach of neck and length of body. Moved well.
- Beare’s JEMSPARK MAID IN SECRET. S/w with good reach of neck and pleasing shape, presents well with good ear carriage and good eye and expression. Moved freely.
- Ware’s KIND OF MAGIC DELLA BUCCA DELLE FATE AT WASSAIL.
OPEN BITCH (7, 3)
- Llewellyn’s ARTZAIAK SELINA DE SALSINA (IMP.ESP.) S/w with very good head properties, well moulded muzzle and correct stop. Correct shaped dark eye and good ear carriage, giving a very feminine expression. Presented in excellent coat and condition, she moves well and pushed hard in the challenge.
- Lockyer’s CH. PARADISE GIRL DU CLOS DE SEA-WIND FOR GATAJ (IMP.FRA.). Another S/w who was unlucky to meet one today, in such good form. Very nice head, good muzzle and correct, well placed stop. Correct eye shape and good ear carriage. She presents herself well and moved freely.

VETERAN BITCH (4)
- Llewellyn’s SALSINA BLACK MAGIC. Tricolour of very nice type. Pleasing clean head, very nice eye and expression. Presented in very good coat and condition, she moves well
