EAST ANGLIAN COLLIE ASSOCIATION
CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW – 1ST AUGUST 2021
ROUGH COLLIE BITCHES
Thanks to the committee for inviting me to judge at this friendly and well organised show. It was great to be out again and amongst Collie people who were all clearly enjoying being together again! I was delighted with the entry – the quality was very high and in some classes I could have had more than 1 red card. The bitch challenge at the end was a real pleasure to see with several worthy of the big green card. I was so pleased to see so many with good upper arms and shoulder angulation as well as the graceful lines that Collies should have and that I always look for. Tails on the whole were a tad short. The Kennel Club’s Breed Watch points overall were fine – some cow hocks but I think some of this is down to the way exhibits stand rather than faulty conformation. Presentation generally was excellent but something to note – there were several exhibits that had substance left on their ears – a big no no. Please try harder to remove this before you enter the ring – a different judge might have told you to leave the ring.
Veteran (11, 4)
- Burrows’ Ch Tiganlea Tinkerbell at Revdvicki. What a class to start the day! Headed up by an ‘old’ favourite of mine who at 8 years of age has lost none of her qualities and can still out move most of the youngsters. She has such a lovely shape with her really good reach of neck, correct length of back, moderate bone and first-class presentation. She instantly appeals as much now as she did when I last judged her. Her head is clean with lovely moulded foreface. Her expression is exquisite thanks to her lovely dark eyes which are correctly shaped and placed, her stop which is not excessive and breaks correctly and her ears, correctly placed and used non-stop. Her forequarters are well angulated, and she has a good shoulder and upper arm with good depth of brisket. Her rear angulation from hip to bend of stifle is also very good and this enabled her to move out lightly, covering the ground with ease and holding her topline. I was pleased to award her the Res CC – her second such award from me, Best Veteran and she later went Best Veteran in Show with the full agreement of my co-judge.
- Flower’s Serenlas Obsession. Another outstanding bitch, so unlucky to meet 1 and I can quite see why she has recently won a CC. Full of quality with her classic lines and lovely balance. Well-constructed she has excellent front angulation, length of back and lovely hind quarters with her outline finished by a long tail. Her head is clean with perfect moulding, lovely stop, and beautiful, intelligent expression. Shows beautifully and moves as her construction would suggest, effortlessly and with drive. So unlucky to meet 1 today.
- White’s Corydon Femme Fatale for Mejola.
Minor Puppy (6,1)
Another super class with some really promising babies. A class where I could have had several red cards.
- Blackburn & Jones Erjon Ebony Jewels – and what a little jewel she is! Exquisite tri with a wonderful outline. Fabulous reach of neck, good length of back and well angulated fore and aft. Standing attentively on well boned legs and neat feet. Her head is so well balanced for a baby – correct stop and good head planes. She has the darkest of eyes, beautifully shaped and placed and with her ears well set and used her expression is melting. She needs to be more collected on the move, but I saw enough to assure she me that she is as sound as her construction would suggest. One with a very bright future I think - Best MP, BP and BPIS.
- Edwards’ Elshajo As If By Magic – shapely sable and white with lovely neck, length of back and well angulated in front and behind. Super head which is balanced and clean with superb expression thanks to well placed and shaped dark eyes and neat ears well used. She moved out well and with confidence. Very promising and should give her owner a lot of fun.
- Lockyer’s Gataj Good Time Girl.
Puppy (4,0)
- Geddes Ingledene Sno Angel. Beautifully coloured and feminine blue merle with elegant outline. Super reach of neck and length of back. Nice rise over the loin and long tail. Super front assembly and good bend of stifle which enabled her to move with ease, covering the ground well. Her head is well balanced and clean with good stop – at first sight her white facial markings would suggest that she lacks stop but this isn’t the case. Pleasing expression with nicely shaped and placed eyes, ears well set on and used. A very promising puppy who I’m sure will always be in the cards.
- Congdon’s Fridens Be My Lucky at Aaronwell. Another really super puppy showing a lot of promise. Really lovely head and expression with moulded foreface and good stop. Not quite the reach of neck of 1 but still is perfectly acceptable. Good length of back and well angulated in front and rear. Well coated and presented. Moved very well.
- Larkin’s Rahlissa Toffee Cake for Denora
Junior (2,0)
- Harrison’s Cambrogan Lady of Loch’aber at Cariadhaf. Very nice s/w with a lovely balanced outline. Super reach of neck, correct length of back and well angulated. Good bone and good depth of brisket. She has a clean head with nicely moulded foreface. Stop is correct and expression shows intelligence. Fitted coat of harsh texture. Moves with drive and purpose.
- Spendelow’s Uffspring Undreamed Of. Nice s/w bitch in her summer clothes. Her lack of coat served to show here lovely outline with her good reach of neck. She has a nice head and expression, but her ears are a bit heavy for me and she is rather proud of her tail on the move.
Novice (6,0)
- Tipper’s Tiganlea True Heart’s Desire. S/w minor puppy with a profuse coat but underneath that was a lovely shape and conformation. She is very feminine with a super head and expression thanks to lovely balanced head, correct stop, dark, almond shaped eyes, and neat ears used well. Good reach of neck, length of back and well angulated. Moved well and shows a lot of promise.
- Mellish’s Demelewis Double Take – tri minor puppy moved up from reserve in the strong MP class. Very promising tri baby with all the essentials. Very appealing outline with great reach of neck, length of back and well angulated. Feminine with good bone for her size and will finish well I think. Her head needs to finish as yet but time is on her side. Moves very well. One that will only improve.
- R Toffee Cake for Denora
Yearling (4,3)
- White’s Mejola Special Reserve. Feminine bitch with great balance. Good reach of neck and length of back. Well angulated front and rear enabling her to move effortlessly. She has a good head which is clean. Expression is pleasing but she was struggling with her ears today and the blustery wind didn’t help.
Post Graduate (13, 2)
A very strong class with quality right down the line.
- Edwards Elshajo Adored – and she is adorable. Very feminine bitch - mother to 2 in MP and the similarity is striking. Glamourous girl presented to perfection but underneath that coat is a really well made collie. Great reach of neck and length of back. Good shoulder placement and upper arm. Very good rear angulation which translates to free and easy movement. Her head is very clean with moulded foreface, good stop, and flat back skull. Her expression is sweet thanks to her beautiful dark almond shaped eyes and ears which are well placed and used.
- Flower’s Serenlas Heaven in Blu. Close up to 1 thanks to her lovely conformation. Another with a good reach of neck, good length of back and well angulated fore and aft. She has a clean head with intelligent expression. Nice eyes and correctly placed stop. Well placed and used ears. Good colour. Moved well and with purpose.
- Congdon’s Starlenga All My Love to Aaronwell.
Mid Limit (5,1)
- Bluck’s Salsina Sharing Secrets. Pleasing feminine s/w bitch with balanced outline. Good neck and shoulders. Good length of back and topline. Her head is clean, but her stop is bit too deep for me. Expression is very sweet thanks to her lovely dark eyes and well used ears. Moved very well.
- Whitaker’s Siluto Misterious Girl – tri bitch who lost out to 1 on expression. Well constructed and with a balanced outline, having a good reach of neck, length of back and good angulations. Shown in good coat and moved well.
- Vogan’s Lenosann Black Cherry.
Limit (8,4)
- Beaden & Arrowsmith’s Saganan Blue Diamond. The star of my entry! The complete package today with everything in the right place at the right time! A beautifully coloured b/m in wonderful coat which was presented to perfection. So feminine and yet gives the impression that she could do a day’s work. The stand out was her absolutely effortless movement. She covered the ground as if she were floating on a cloud. This is thanks to her excellent conformation with everything in harmony. Correct shoulder placement and upper arm. Correct length of back and hip angulation leading to a good bend of stifle with powerful hocks and neat feet, balanced by a good reach of neck and long tail correctly carried. She has the sweeping, elegant lines that a collie must have and which when present makes it such a beautiful breed. Her head too is balanced with good back skull and length of foreface which is clean and moulded. Correctly placed stop, dark, almond shaped eyes and correctly placed and used ears which combined to give the desired sweet yet intelligent expression. In the challenge she was pushed hard but today it was her day and I was pleased to award her the CC, her 3rd which makes her a very worthy champion subject to KC confirmation. Congratulations. CC, RBoB, BOS, RBIS & BoSiS
- Walder’s Hanvale Polly Shelby. Glamourous s/w feminine girl with not a hair out of place. Lovely reach of neck and length of back. Very good front and rear angulation. Balanced head but would like a flatter back skull. Very pleasing expression. Movement is sound.
- Philpin’s Sassari Snow Shimmer for Tudorlyn.
Open (11,4)
Another very strong class with quality down the line.
- Bardos Hun & INT Ch Tiganlea Make Good Time. Glamourous s/w who is full of quality. Another from this kennel with a great outline having a lovely reach of neck, good length of back and being well angulated in front and rear. Moved very freely. She has a clean head with level planes, moulded foreface, correct stop. Her expression is very pleasing but nit picking I would like her ear set tighter and her eyes were a touch bigger than her veteran kennel mate which were the deciding factors when it came down to the res CC award. Having said all that, she is a lovely bitch who should surely gain her GB title.
- Shipp’s Gillyflower Della Buca Delle Fate. Just coming into full coat but what she has is good texture and shows off her lovely conformation. Super outline with good reach of neck, could have a slightly longer length of back but again, this is nit picking. She is well angulated fore and aft and moves very well. I loved her head pattern and she has a super expression thanks to her lovely dark eyes, good stop and well placed and used ears. I think she should do well and was unlucky to come up against 1 today.
- Lockyer’s Takhisis Hope and Dreams with Gataj.
Champion (3,1)
- Walder’s Ch Beldones La Vita Bella for Hanvale. Mother of 2nd in limit and very like her. Feminine golden s/w with lovely outline – good reach of neck and length of back. Lovely clean head with super expression. Well angulated and presents a glamourous picture. Moves rather heavily and perhaps has put on a few lockdown pounds (like me). Worthy champion.
- Davies & Davies CH Tiganlea Silver Trinket at Sabiha. Veteran b/m whose colour has darkened with age but still retains all her qualities. Very happy to be back in the ring today and gave her all. She is well constructed with an appealing outline and great movement. Her head is clean, but I just preferred the expression of 1 today. Another worthy champion.
