Special Award Classes

I would like to commend the committee of the East Anglian Collie Association on their outstanding organisation of this show. It has been a difficult almost 14 months during the pandemic with no shows and many of us have felt isolated without the regular contact we have with the dog showing community. I was so happy to be back at a dog show and I know the boost it gave my mental health will no doubt be mirrored by many who attended. As a non specialist judge of the breeds I was delighted with my entry of 24 dogs with just a couple of absentees. Sadly a couple of the puppies did not want to be handled however this is understandable having had no opportunities to socialise in their short lives and I hope that now we can start getting our dogs out and about they can build up their confidence. I was pleased with the overall quality of the dogs entered under me and had a good selection to choose from with representatives from both breeds in all three colours. Thank you for inviting me to judge and thank you to the exhibitors for your entries.

Special Award Puppy (6 entries)
1st. Naulls’ Wynele Cover Girl. Quality 8 month old sable smooth with a wonderful head and expression. Beautiful eyes and ears. Lovely front construction with balanced shoulder to upper arm proportions and good bone. Good spring of ribs and balanced overall with good rear angulation and excellent feet. The most together on the move of the puppies today I thought and a quality example of the breed. I am sure she has a bright future ahead of her.
2nd. Geddes’ Ingledene Sno Angel. Another quality puppy, this time a 6 ½ month old blue merle rough. Another with a beautiful head and eye shape and well set ears. Would perhaps like a touch more length of neck and body however is growing so will be interesting to see how she develops. Overall a balanced puppy who was very sound on the move and performed well at her first show.
3rd. Brown and Davies’s Breckamore Blessings at Wystry

Special Award Post Graduate (11 entries, 1 absent)
1st. Martin and Howard’s Shandlmain Blu Chief. Masculine Blue Merle Smooth with a good head, lovely eye shape and ears. In excellent condition with good muscle tone and harsh coat. Excellent length of neck going into well sloped shoulders and a nice deep chest with well sprung ribs. Balanced rear. Would perhaps prefer slightly tighter feet. On the move this dog was superb, lovely profile action and sound coming and going. A dog you could imagine working all day and from the collection of rosettes I saw he had won at the end of the day it looks like he did. Well done winning this competitive class.
2nd. Randall’s Ladnar Mustriharder. Another quality dog, this time a Tri coloured rough male aged almost two. Balanced head with sweet expression and good ears. Good length of neck going into well proportioned front with good bone and feet. Excellent coat and condition and gave a lovely balanced outline overall exhibiting good breed type. Another good mover. It was a close decision between this dog and the first.
3rd. Naulls’ Wyunele Blu Alice

Special Award Open (7 entries, 1 absent)
1st. Flower’s Serenglas Pagans Moon. 2 year old tri coloured rough bitch with a beautiful balanced head, sweet feminine expression and exhibiting correct parallel head planes with just the right amount of stop. Best front in the class with a balanced rear and good feet. Presented in lovely coat and condition and moved soundly with no sense of exaggeration. A quality bitch of good type and a pleasure to judge.
2nd. Benton’s Oakestelle Venus de Milo. Quality Blue Merle Smooth, another with a good head and a nice eye shape. Good length of neck and balanced front. Overall a good outline and a lovely mover, particularly in profile.
