Midland Collie Club Ch Show
February 2020 - Rough Collie Dogs

I would like to sincerely thank all the members of the Midland Collie Club committee for the invitation to judge the males during this perfectly organised championship exhibition.

A very special moment for me as, after 35 years of  passion for the Collie,  20 years of which have been as a judge, it is the first time that I have had the honour of officiating  in England, the cradle of  the breed that brings us together.

As always, during exhibitions on British soil, I have been impressed by the presentation of the dogs, well kept, whether static or in motion, well groomed and the majority with coats in good condition.

I am also satisfied with the quality of the subjects which were presented to me, however I noticed that the same defects one finds almost everywhere in Europe in collies were present here, that is to say, often the shoulders are slightlly straight, lacking in angular form or with  unsatisfactory bone proportions.

The rear is sometimes also faulty, which causes a lack of thrust in the hindquarters.
It is important to try to keep the sheepdog qualities in our collies, The leading dogs are good but their make up is often faulty and it is essential to keep the  movement so typical of this breed.

I would like to congratulate and thank all  who exhibited, winners or not, for their confidence in my judgements. I also warmly thank my two ring secretaries Sophie Ramsden and Sue Walker.
