Rough Collie Judge – Dr Lynda Boyle [Barrenclough]
I thank the Committee for their invitation to judge and for their hospitality. Unfortunately, the weather was against us. The continual torrential rain made things very difficult for the exhibitors, who had put so much effort into grooming and presentation, and adversely affected the performance of some of the dogs. Our BOB and BPIB were unable to wait for BIS, being drenched wet through, but huge thanks to everyone for braving the weather long enough to go in the ring and to my Ring Steward for her efficiency and continued good humour. [NB. I shall edit this critique for publication in the dog press.]
Puppy [3, 0]
1, BELDONES UPTOWN GIRL OF ROSSCHELL – Very pretty light s/w bitch of 9 months. Well off for bone with pleasing overall shape. Ears right on top. Showed non-stop. Very responsive to handler. Best mover in the class, who tolerated the adverse conditions extremely well. BP Very well done.
2. POMNENKA MY FAIR LADY – 9 months tricolour bitch, nice make and shape with plenty of body and enough neck. Nice ear carriage. Showed, stood and responded to her handler well, and moved OK under the adverse conditions.
3. BLUECHIP SKYRAH OF SKYESHELM – Pretty 9 months s/w bitch. Lovely head and expression and nice construction that should give good movement. Unfortunately, she was more affected by the weather than the other two puppies and she did not show me just how nice she can be. Good luck for the future on a better day.
Junior [1, 0]
1, STARLENGA HARRY POTTER – 18 months upstanding s/w male with masculine head and nice dark eye. Good ear carriage with ears used well despite adverse weather. Coat beautifully presented with enough still present to give a very pleasing outline. Good reach of neck with good front and rear angulation. Moved with an impulsion impressive in the heavy rain. A little too proud of his tail, but tail set is fine and I could not deny him BOB. Very well done.
Post Graduate [5, 0]
1, SAMHAVEN TIME IS MONEY WITH NJKAL – 5 years tricolour bitch with feminine head and expression. Well muscled. Very responsive to handler. Excelled on the move today and left me in no doubt that she would be off fetching those sheep home no matter what the weather. Well done.
2, INGLEDENE NITESKYE OF SKYESHELM – larger 3 years tricolour bitch. Different head type than #1, but still very feminine expression. Ears used well. At one with her handler and moved well without hesitation, covering the ground with ease. Another that could work.
3, SILUTO MYSTERIOUS GIRL – Nice 18 months tri girl with striking contrast between black and white. Well constructed girl who lost out because of lack of coat and tolerance of the weather conditions. Good luck for the future on a better day.
Open [4, 1]
1, ROSSCHELL WILL I AM AT LIBANEL – Almost 6 years tricolour dog with striking rich tan face. Ears nicely placed and used well. Good overall make and shape but does tend to turn rear paws slightly outwards and back teeth need some attention. However, impressive lateral movement won him RBOB. Well done.
2, BLUECHIP SOLAR STORM AT SKYESHELM – Upstanding 8 years tri dog with good coat and body. Well balanced head and good angulation front and back. Made light of the weather conditions, moving with accuracy and drive.
3, NIKAL ITS GUD TO BE BLACK – Slightly smaller 8 years tri dog in lovely coat and condition with enough body. Well balanced head with nice expression. Very responsive to his handler. Kept his top line on the move, but not moving quite as positively as #2 under the dreadful weather conditions. So difficult to split these two handsome veteran boys. Thank you for bringing them both.
