Collie (Rough)

I would like to thank the officers and committee of WPBW for their kind invitation to judge at their championship show and my very capable stewards who kept the ring running smoothly. I was very pleased with my main winners, both of whom, to my mind, combined correct breed type with the seeming ability to be ‘fit for function’ and having the elegance and dignity which, for me, epitomises a Collie. I am looking for a Collie that can not only move but move with purpose and drive - I am also looking for a Collie with the expression that only a Collie can have. I had a very enjoyable day and would like to thank all the exhibitors for their entries.

Veteran (4, 1 absent)
1st - Hawkins’ Ch Brilyn Platinum Lustre, blue merle of outstanding quality and stylish outline and at 9 and a half years old, this young lady is still going strong, she shows absolute balance and harmony with her proportions, a clean and well balanced head, correct stop, a beautiful moulding of foreface, correctly shaped and obliquely set eye giving a most beautiful expression, ears carried well, strong neck and topline, correctly angulated front and back enabling her to move freely and effortlessly keeping her topline intact at all times, she outmoved and outshone all her younger opponents to win the CC and BOS.
2nd – Corben’s Wicani Spectral Blue via Caprioara, blue merle male with an overall pleasing outline, well balanced head, almond shaped eye and quite flat skull, ears a little wide set, adequate angulation front and back and moved out well, I would prefer a cleaner colour.
3rd – Corben’s Coarhabeg Exquisite via Caprioara

Minor Puppy Dog ( 2)
1st - Hassock’s Camanna Codename, a good sized sable boy with plenty of substance, I loved his long, clean head and appealing expression coming from a correctly shaped and placed eye, lovely moulding of foreface and ears bang on top, strong bone, adequate angulation, well developed in body, needs to tighten in movement as rather erratic but showing promise overall.
2nd – Edwards’ Copamage Tropical Cyclone over Elshajo, very well presented 6 months old baby, standing four square and to attention showing off his smart outline, well balanced head, pleasant eye and expression, good ears, moved very well sideways and keeping his topline, needs to tighten behind, I just preferred the head and expression of the winner.

Puppy Dog (3)
1st - Think of Me Prince of Sunlight at Gataj (Imp HUN), sable presented in excellent coat and condition, I find his head a bit flaring and deep in skull, pleasant eye, correct ears, I would like a little better underjaw, adequate length of neck, well angulated front and back, strong and well made body, a well fitting coat of correct texture and very well presented, moved very well from all angles keeping his topline, Best Puppy Dog.
2nd – Hawkins & Foy’s Beldones Napoleon, a big upstanding sable with lovely substance, head well balanced with good moulding of foreface although I found him a little broad and deep in skull, very nice eye, a little lacking in neck, adequately angulated at front, good hind angulation and stands four square and parallel, moved out well.
3rd - Gladwell’s Sunswirl Win Step to Jotars (Imp BLR)

Junior Dog (3, 1 absent)
1st – Hawkins & Foy’s Beldones Gadget, tricolour with a very nice eye giving a kind and soft expression, clean head which is well balanced, good ear carriage, a little steep in  front assembly and needs to develop in forechest, good spring of rib and length of body, excellent hind angulation, moved well from all angles and keeping his topline.
2nd - Gladwell’s Sunswirl Win Step to Jotars (Imp BLR), a golden sable in lovely coat, I loved this dog’s eye being almond shaped and obliquely set giving him the most beautiful expression, ears a little wide and I would prefer a slightly better filling of foreface, I found him too straight in shoulder and upper arm which ultimately affected his movement making him short striding, well developed in body, good hind angulation and moved well behind, well presented and handled.

1st - Lockyer’s Think of Me Prince of Sunlight at Gataj (Imp HUN)

Graduate Dog (1)
1st - Gladwell’s Moon Happy Jotars (Imp RUS), stood alone in the class but a well deserved first prize, a good sized, masculine, well balanced and very appealing blue merle, well balanced head with beautiful moulding of foreface and a lovely eye giving a very sweet and kind expression, good ears, good neck and topline, a little steep in upper arm, well developed in body and bone, excellent hind angulation, well broken up markings and quite clear in colour, moved well from all angles.

Post Graduate Dog (3)
1st - White’s Mejola Fate And Fortune, I love this dog’s size and shape, he combines elegance and substance, head very clean without any trace of coarseness, skull flat enough, stop slightly sloping, a well shaped eye, I would like a little better underjaw and a little less depth of head, elegant neck, correct angulation front and back, when he moves he comes into his own as his construction and balance shows off his free and effortless movement, a dog who looks like he could easily do a day’s work, I would like his colour clearer and with better marbling but a very sound dog.

Limit Dog (9, 1 absent)
1st - Hassock’s Camanna Colour Me Perfect, another male with substance and elegance which always looks very attractive to me, his overall shape is very pleasant and a blue merle with correct colour and markings, his head is a little strong in skull but well balanced and having beautiful moulding of foreface, flat skull, a well shaped eye giving an appealing expression, excellent reach of neck, good forechest, spring of rib and length of body, well angulated front and back, excellent bone, strides out well when moved at the correct pace, slightly close behind but firm, I was pleased to award him the res CC.
2nd - Wray’s Takhisis Trick Or Treat, tricolour, slightly shorter all over than the winner but perfectly well formed, a well balanced head although I would like him less strong in back skull, nice moulding of foreface and a very nice eye giving an appealing expression, ears a little wide, good length of neck and level topline, well angulated front and back, his croup is a little short and tends to slope, a little unsettled on the move coming and going, moves well sideways and keeping his topline, a very nice dog.
3rd - Gladwell’s Jotars Blue Moon
4th – Jones’ Ingledene Dare To Dream with Dancol
VHC - Vogan’s Lenosann Midnight Rascal

Open Dog (4)
1st - Falletto’s Int It Ch One Extraordinary Blu di Cambiano (Imp IT), I was immediately struck by this dog’s elegance and outline which, for me, is an example of a Collie with that elusive impassive dignity, his head carried on a long neck and is clean and well balanced without any exaggerations or traces of coarseness, almond shaped and well placed eye giving a very kind and appealing expression, ears of correct size and placement, correct forechest with correct spring and depth of chest, adequate bone, correct angulation front and back which enables him to move effortless and gracefully, striding out with drive and giving the impression of stamina and endurance, his colour is completely clear, a silvery blue with correct marbling, CC and BOB.
2nd - Quince’s Karafaye Black Quillan, tricolour in stunning condition and presented to perfection, clean well balanced head, good moulding of foreface and a pleasant expression, excellent ears, a little lacking in neck, strong body of good length and excellent substance, a little narrow in forechest, moves freely and effortlessly from all angles as his construction would suggest, jet black coat which was gleaming with health and vitality.
3rd - Antoc Soul Mate

Minor Puppy Bitch (2, 1 absent)
1st - Jackson’s Sassari Made Me Silver, a pleasing blue merle baby, clean and well balanced head with a nicely shaped eye giving an appealing and feminine expression, good ears, adequate length of neck, a little steep in upper arm, very well developed in body for her age, good hind angulation, needs to clear in colour, moved well from all angles.

Puppy Bitch (3)
1st - Hawkins & Foy’s Beldones Looks Like Fun, a nicely shaped sable, clean head which is well balanced, a nicely shaped and placed eye giving a very feminine and sweet expression, adequate length of neck, a little steep in front angulation, excellent hind angulation, well developed in body and bone and good length of body, strides out well on the move, Best Puppy Bitch and Best Puppy In Breed.

2nd - Wray’s Takhisis Aphrodite, a slightly bigger girl and slightly shorter in back than the winner but a very appealing golden sable, I find her head a little too strong and deep in skull, pleasant eye, good length of neck, a little steep in upper arm, well developed chest, good hind angulation, moves a little untidy coming and going but strides out well enough from the side.
3rd - Lockyer’s True Colours at Prince of Sunlight at Gataj (Imp HUN)

Junior Bitch (5, 1 absent)
1st - Hawkins’ Brilyn Molly Cuddles, a very attractive and elegant golden sable who immediately stands out, in full coat which was beautifully presented, clean and feminine head although a little fine in foreface, pleasant eye, correct ears, good length of neck, a little steep in upper arm and at times can stand with her head pulled back too much which can spoil her outline, level topline and good length of back, excellent hind angulation, tends to crab on the move but strides out and moves well when she wants to, coat in gleaming condition and of correct texture, res CC.
2nd - Geddes’ Ingledene Spirit of Ecstasy, tricolour who excels in construction and movement having a free flowing and effortless gait, totally out of coat but showing off her correct shape, a very clean and well formed head and a feminine expression, good ears, excellent conformation with good reach of neck, correct spring and depth of chest, correct angulation front and back, moves with drive and keeping her topline, she gives the impression of great stamina.
3rd - Boyle’s Monsolana Love Style over Barrenclough (Imp RUS)
4th – Hanson’s Ambartr Plancee at Jards

Novice Bitch (4)
1st - Wray’s Takhisis Aphrodite
2nd - Lockyer’s True Colours at Prince of Sunlight at Gataj (Imp HUN), very well presented sable, I find her head a little too deep and broad in skull, quite a nice eye, ears a little wide, good length of neck, a little low on her front legs, well developed in body and bone and good length of body, all giving a pleasing shape and outline, moved well enough from all angles.
3rd - Boyle’s Monsolana Love Style over Barrenclough (Imp RUS)
4th – Hanson’s Ambartr Plancee at Jards

Graduate Bitch (6, 2 absent)
1st - Randall’s Samhaven Hopeful Ladnar, a super fit blue merle in excellent condition, well balanced head with nice moulding of foreface, slightly strong in back skull, well shaped eye giving a pleasant expression, excellent ears and ear carriage, good length of neck, well angulated front and back although to be critical a fraction short on the front leg, excellent depth and spring of rib, very positive action coming and going, free and effortless movement.
2nd - Vogan’s Lenosann Black Cherry, tricolour in excellent condition, very feminine and clean head which is well balanced, good head planes and free from coarseness, a very nice eye giving a soft and gentle expression, I would like her foreface a litter better moulded, well angulated front and back, level topline, moves freely and effortlessly.
3rd - Boyle’s Monsolana Love Style over Barrenclough (Imp RUS)
4th – Hanson’s Ambartr Plancee at Jards

Post Graduate Bitch (8, 3 absent)
1st - Geddes’ Ingledene Lace N’Grace, a golden sable with excellent conformation, clean well balanced head and a pleasant eye, slight but perceptible stop, I would prefer slightly more filling of foreface, good underjaw, good length of neck, excellent angulation front and back, excellent depth and spring of rib, level topline, her movement outshone the others in her class with a free flowing effortless action and level topline.
2nd – Ward’s Demelewis Dare To Be Unique in Starside, tricolour in very good condition and presenting an attractive shape, head clean but recedes in skull and slightly deep, pleasant eye but foreface too fine, one ear carried lower than the other, good reach of neck, correct front and rear assembly, strong body, a well balanced girl and moved well from all angles.
3rd - Boyle’s Barrenclough Golden Pearl
4th – Evans’ Ingledene All Laced Up
VHC – Corben’s Wicani The Seductress via Caprioara

Limit Bitch (10, 2 absent)
1st - Wray’s Beldones Pandora, a sable who exudes feminine appeal, shown in full bloom and excellent condition, a well balanced head with lovely moulding of foreface, a well shaped eye giving a most endearing, soft and sweet expression which in the end swung the decision in her favour, a little deep in backskull and slightly short on the front leg which affects her topline, good length of neck which she doesn’t show off as she frustratingly tends to be a little hesitant, especially on the move when she can sink down on her front but when allowing herself to relax and move freely is able to stride out well enough, moves true coming and going, very well presented.
2nd - White’s Corydon Femme Fatale for Mejola, I thought she would be my winner as she was clearly one of the best moving girls in the class, clean head and flat skull, well filled foreface, slight but perceptible stop, almond shaped eye which is well placed giving a pleasing expression and no depth through, good ears although a little wide, adequate length of neck, well angulated front and back and good length of back, slightly wavy coat which does not help the look of her overall outline although her back is level enough and she keeps a steady topline on the move, I would like her coat a slightly clearer colour, moves freely and correctly from all angles.

4th – Mellish’s Corydon Victoriana for Demelewis
VHC – Stevens’ Boughlee Sheza Star

Open Bitch (8, 2 absent)
1st - Smedley’s Antoc Soul Diva, a sable who won the class on her free flowing movement as she kept her topline intact, feminine and clean head without any exaggerations, a very nice almond shaped eye giving a kind expression, I would prefer a better moulding of foreface and a stronger underjaw, sufficient neck, level topline, well angulated front and back, her croup drops off slightly, moves well from all angles.
2nd - Jackson’s Sassari Sea Shimmer, blue merle who at first glance I thought would win the class, very nice well balanced head and a pleasant eye, I would prefer slightly better moulding of foreface, excellent ears, adequate neck, a little steep in upper arm, good topline, good spring and depth of chest, well angulated behind, moves with positive action front and back, side movement slightly affected by her front assembly.
3rd - Lockyer’s Gataj Welcome With A Kiss
4th – Blake’s Demelewis Catch The Breeze for Corydon
