Richmond Dog Show 2018
A credible entry for what was a difficult few months for coats after a very hot summer I was delighted by the depth of quality throughout. Excellent temperaments and both exhibits and exhibitors well turned out. I was disappointed to find so many exhibits overweight and this was reflected in sluggish movement. If exhibitors would move there dogs at the correct pace, move in a straight line and do a simple triangle correctly this would make for a more polished performance. You have only one chance to impress the judge. A lovely gathering after the judging for food and a few drinks made the end of my day most memorable.
Veteran Dog ( 1/1)
1 . Foy/Hawkins. Int Ch , Eng Ch Beldones Double Diamond . Stood alone but super quality male who was not showing his age. Head handles so well, balanced, clean, no flaring or bumps with the correct amount of stop. Lovely dark eye, well placed ears which he used none stop. Standing he really appeals for size, outline, bone and substance. There is no denying his gender. Beautifully presented in full coat. An easy boy to show, eager to please and gave his all. I did consider him for top honours and it was very close but with a change of handler he seems to take a drop in energy on the move.
Best Veteran Special Beginners ( 0/0 ) Minor Puppy Dog ( 2/1)
- Fuller . Hanvale Arthur Shelby with Damos. A very glamorous puppy who immediately draws your eye for his size, substance, super bone and very appealing outline for such a young baby of 7 1/2 months. His head is mature for his age, well finished and clean. Ears a little touch on the heavy side but this did not distract from his dreamy expression. A little erratic on the move but he was having fun and that’s ok, I don’t expect babies to be robots. He will give his owners lots of fun. Super temperament.
Puppy Dog (5/5)
- Shipp . No more Heroes Du Clos De Sea-Wind ( Imp ). Before I even put my hands on this dog I could see how fabulous the presentation was, in fact all the dogs from this kennel where groomed the same - put down to the minute. His outline really appealed, well off for neck and correct length of back. Moved well in all directions, in complete unison with his handler and excellent tail carriage. Pleasing expression, dark eye and excellent ears well used. To be critical a little fine in foreface at this stage but hopefully with maturity this will fill and develop. Need to watch him standing at the rear as he at times was a little untidy and tucked under, but all will come together when mature
- Walker / Ritchie . Norska De Remember our love for Starlenga ( Imp ) . A top quality 10m old tri puppy although not having the best coat his body condition and muscle are super . Nothing to hide super reach of neck and level topline. He excelled in head and expression, more mature and better filled in foreface than one, dark eyes, almond shaped and oblique set giving him the most exquisite expression. Moved well in all directions with correct tail set. Beautifully presented and coat jet black. To be critical although his length of back is correct I would like more length of leg to complete the picture of balance on his outline
3 . Newton / Patterson . Darahill Xanadu
Junior Dog (2/2) .
1 Lockyer , Think of me Prince of Sunlight at Gataj ( imp) . A very difficult age for any young male and today not in his best coat and condition. I really loved his outline, super neck so the foundation is there. Ears well placed and used non stop, sweet expression but just needs to clear in stop. Moved true and steady in all directions but his topline could be a little firmer and watch that tail . A young dog who I feel needs time to come together
2
Dinnadge , Trenley True Grit of Bellcot . Placed 5th in a previous class . At 9 1/2 m so overweight this puppy struggled to move. A very glamorous puppy, well turned out and with such a lovely temperament but outline did not appea , short in back and lacked neck . Very nice head with lovely moulding just spoiled by excess hair and this can be so easily corrected .
Post Graduate Dog ( 4/3 )
1 Foy / Hawkins . Beldones Tom Wood. I have in my notes ....overall a very sound honest dog with very little not to like. Really a dog that you need to get your hands on to appreciate his many qualities. I did glance over at him a few times in the challenge but today he lacked that little extra sparkle and attitude that I love . This dog I feel won’t be rushed, all in his own time
2 Murray , Beloreen Starman . This dog really appealed for his super outline, good neck and correct length of back. A little longer in head but just enough stop and good fill in foreface. His colour is clear and well broken, beautifully presented. Quite a handful on the move for his owner to keep but strode out really well in all directions, just needs to settle .
3. Lockyer , Gataj Beau of Surprises JW
Limit dog (4/4)
- Wells , Collingvale Crunchie at Terelimon JW , Sh.CM. A dark shaded sable in wonderful coat and condition, beautifully presented. A well balanced head, good underjaw, darkest of eyes and rims, perfectly placed ears, well used. His movement is a joy to watch, excellent front extension and drive from the rear. Super temperament and showed himself off to full advantage. To be critical just not enough of him for me and in the dog challenge he was overshadowed by the other males.
- Page . Amalie Lynmead Bring me Back. A quality male so similar in type but I just preferred eye on winner and more finish on coat. A very sound dog throughout with super muscle tone which was evident in his effortless movement. His handler just needs a little more confidence to get the best from him
- Brown , Jazzman Du Clos De Seawind for Mertrisa( imp Rom )
Open Dog (4/3)
- Collins . Chelborn Soul Desire for Triburle. A dog bred in the purple and for me obvious quality. He has a very well balanced head, clean, slight stop, good underjaw, well placed and perfectly tipped ears which he used non stop, eye dark to complete a very appealing expression. My hands just flowed over him, he excelled in chest, correct shoulder placement, in super body and condition. His topline was firm which he held on the move. He has plenty of neck but can be deceiving with his coat. Good tight feet, short hocks and he moved steady and true in all directions with a good tail set. This dog was groomed to perfection and today was his day. He pulled out a very polished performance to take the top award in males his second CC I was later told ... one who is destined for the upper house
- Congdon . Ch Jugband Blues du Clos de Sea-Wind via Aaronwell ( Imp) . It’s no secret this B/M is a firm favourite of mine having judged him previously in his homeland, France, where he took top honours. A stallion of a dog, his head and expression a joy, well off for bone, no denying his gender. His colour is clear, coat harsh and well presented. He is very sound on the move and I especially love his drive from the rear. But today the extra weight he carried did not help him, dropping his head on side gait so just losing his topline and giving the winner the edge. A well deserved RCC in good company
Veteran Bitch ( 3/3)
- Margetts , Amalie Let me Be at Collingvale, overall very honest bitch in so many departments. Showed herself off to advantage on a loose lead. Very sound on the move, would like to see her with a little more energy but at ten years I could not pass her wonderful obvious quality.
- Daley . Tremaro Tainted Love at Rahlissa . Another top quality bitch. 3 years younger and a little brighter and fresher than1. Really loved her outline, reach of neck and correct length of back. Stands so well and moved with ease just preferred the eye on winner
- Aarowsmith , Saganan Lady True Blue
Special Beginners bitch ( 4/4 )
- Lyall , Santalolys Sky Amidslas . Very nice type, won class on her wonderful outline and super reach of neck. Her handler trying so hard to get the very best from her. Beautifully presented, just needs her ears tidied up to give her a cleaner head and geting that weight off her will make the world of difference to her movement
- Munday , Amalie Lynmead Hello Dolly, loved her size and outline. Moved well in all directions, would like a better ear set and she seemed rather bored with proceedings which cost her first place
- Spendelow , Samhaven Unique to Uffspring
Minor Puppy Bitch (5/4)
A lovely class of babies all with lots of different qualities to offer and growing at different stages. I’m sure they will all often change places.
1 Margetts, Collingvale Cava , a very delightful shaded S/w who has lots to like. Although her head and expression for me has a little way to go my first impressions of her was how shapely she was for such a young baby. Her outline so correct, super shoulder, fitted coat, excellent bone, correct body weight and trained beautifully to free stand with every foot in the correct place. One of the soundest youngsters on the move, really light and effortless. She is going to have a very nice puppy career
2 Tame , Riverside Song Xtra Sweet at Rahlissa ( imp) A very glamorous puppy who will always draw your eye. More mature than first but could not match her topline. So very feminine, well off for bone and her size just right for her age. Moved out well and enjoyed every minute of being in the limelight. A very happy friendly baby how could you not love her
3 Lockyer , Gataj Girls Best Friend
Puppy Bitch (5/4)
1 Walkers/Ritchie Nelinka de Remember Our Love for Starlenga. Easy winner in this class, just oozed quality. At 10 months she has lost all her coat but for me it just enhanced her outline.....nothing to hide and she has it all, perfect in every department. A glorious puppy who will only get better and better. I could quite easily steal her away. Well deserved Best Puppy.
2 Samhaven Unique to Uffspring . Placed 3rd in special beginners class . I liked her size and such a lovely temperament but she really needs to lose weight as it completely spoiled her movement.
3 Milligan, Ladnar Trust in Me
Junior Bitch (4/3)
- Growcott, Lillyway Lemonade Blush. This young lady is so full of herself on the verge of throwing it all away, doesn’t like to stand still but her owner worked so hard to settle her. Not in her best attire but could not pass her lovely outline, reach of neck and correct length of back. Came into her own on the move putting all her energy into strong powerful movement. Loved her confidence
- Lockyer, Beldones Coco Mademoiselle at Gataj. Not long out of puppy and still holding a rich beautifully groomed coat. A very feminine girl, loved her expression, good size and well off for bone . I would like a touch more length of back to complete the picture and today she was lazy and seemed a little bored and that cost her a higher placing .
- James , Old Gold Gates Fifty Fifty at Deanjan ( imp )
Yearling Bitch ( 7/ 4)
- Shipp , Gillyflower Della Buca Delle Fate ( imp ) Top quality young lady who instantly appeals for expression. A natural born show girl was happy to show off her many virtues free standing on a loose lead. In the most wonderful body and condition, her coat rich and so beautifully presented. Very mature for her age, loved her bone, excellent neck and firm topline which she held on the move. Strode out very well but tends to stand a little tucked under at the rear when too eager for bait.
- Walker / Ritchie . Chantique Cinderella at Starlenga . Not as flashy as one and with more profuse coat which slightly distracted from her outline but hands on this girl and everything in the right place . Head very clean, flat skull, plenty of underjaw and her ears never moved. So beautifully presented, loved her temperament really gave it her all but her naughty tail cost her a higher place.
- Riverside Song Nathalie for Mertrisa ( imp ) little note that I loved her in fact thought she would be my class winner but really needs someone that can move her correctly and this cost her dearly .
Post Graduate Bitch ( 10/10) The best class of the day, in fact I shortlisted 5 lovely bitches to take another look. Any of the first 5 very worthy of winning this class.
- Blackmore , Derbypark Dame Edna at Magenta . Wow ! that’s my notes . I got goosebumps when I looked at her and I looked at her a lot. For me she has it all. My hands all over her from tip of her nose to tail she was oozing quality. Not the best showgirl but it didn’t matter, just needs some work to tidy up the loose ends. It’s my first time ever to see her and let’s hope we shall see her a lot more. Without any hesitation the RCC
- Congdon , Aaronwell Aloe Vera . So unlucky to meet 1 and this beautiful bitch is in tip top condition. Loved her clean head, correct stop, kind eye and using her ears perfectly. Strong body, excellent condition beautifully groomed. Moved very well in all directions .
- Tame , Claudette at Rahlissa ( imp ) JW
Limit Bitch ( 9/ 3)
- Walder , Beldones la Vita Bella for Hanvale. A very attractive, completely sound in every department, S/W just coming into full bloom. Almost at her peak and when she does she will trouble the best. Super head type, nothing overdone, clean, good moulding and slight stop. Used her ears well to give me such an aloof look, full of attitude, which I love. Her neck and outline are all you could wish for and she can stand perfectly when it suits her. Moved with reach and drive in every direction. So beautifully presented and she just loves herself .... so many good things yet to come I feel .
- Plank, Riverside Song Happy Ending. for Rayvel ( imp ) A stunning S/W who really appealed, full of quality. Not in her best attire but this only enhanced her wonderful outline. Her head and expression exquisite, perfect ears, strong in front, correct shoulder, firm topline, moved very well. Excellent temperament, great natural born showgirl happy to please and she did
- 3.McDaid, Beldones Sweet Illusion with Lyndale
Open Bitch (5/4)
- Walders , Ch Heart of Gold de Cabrenysset for Hanvale (imp) . My notes said one word ... Wow! No surprise this bitch already has quite a show career to date but this was my first time up close and personal and I was not disappointed. She is every kennel’s dream. Instantly appealed for her ring presence and overall balance. Her head is refined and so clean, a perfect wedge giving such a pleasing expression. Hands flowed over her, plenty of chest, super bone yet so feminine, super reach of neck flowing into good shoulders. Her body and condition just perfect, firm topline and correct length of back. With all this foundation in place I knew she could move and off she went, at times a little giddy but once settled she was light and effortless, short hocks just powered her soundly in all directions. Steady temperament and so beautifully presented. No hesitation in awarding her bitch CC with BOB.
- Cronk , Chelborn Kiss n Desire . A top quality shaded sable unfortunate to meet my winner in such fine form but I loved her. Could not help but glance over at her obvious quality, in wonderful rich coat and beautifully presented. So very sound on the move. One that could lose some weight to help settle her outline .
- Growcott , Jopium Fascinator
