The Collie Club of Wales Championship Show – 7 th April 2018

I was pleased to judge Best in Show/Referee at my home show. I was called upon to referee the Best of Breed Roughs, and choose the dog. Both exhibits were very worthy winners of the CC, and I could fully understand each judge preferring their own choices.

The dog stood out for me with his charisma and exuberance of youth. I choose for Best In Show the Rough male, Waterhouse’s Born to be Your Quite Famous Lynmead. I found his head to be ideal, good stop, lovely eye shape and placement, well carried ears. Good reach of neck, and length of back. Balanced throughout, in excellent condition, carrying a wealth of coat. Moved soundly enough, enjoying his day.

Reserve Best In Show was the Smooth male, Mesdames Kinsey & Cole’s Ch. Sturtmoor Dream of Kasvelyn. Smart s/w, also well balanced in the head, showed himself off well. Good construction, neat legs and feet. I liked his positive free flowing movement.

Best Opposite Sex was the Rough Bitch, Hawkins Ch. Brilyn Platinum Lustre, pretty blue merle of good colour. She has classic head properties, free flowing lines, lovely bodyshape.

Best Puppy In Show was the smooth bitch, Benton & Bemelmans Oakestelle Asteria. I thought her rather delightful, so feminine. Lovely head, well placed stop, good ear set. Very shapely body, well boned, lovely feet. Moved very well after a long day.

Best Veteran In Show, McDevitts’ Rough Ir.Ch/Ch. Caronlea Lord of the Dance . Looking the best I have seen him, in fabulous coat and condition and simply owning the ring. Cleanest of heads, good reach of neck, decent length of body. Excellent bone without being cloddy, thoroughly enjoying his day, moved with drive and posititivity
