Scottish Kennel Club Championship Show
26th & 27th August 2017
Rough Collies
I would like to thank SKC for inviting me to judge and all the exhibitors for entering under me. I had a lovely entry to judge and was pleased with the overall quality of the exhibits that were present on the day. There were a mixture of differing types, with extremes in size, some on the large side and some on the smaller side. I was looking for overall balance with a clean head. Generally presentation was very good, but one or two could have been presented in a cleaner condition. If you are going to spend money on an entry fee, it is worth spending time making sure that your dog is presented to the best of your ability.

1) REID’S Ladnar Moon River At Catchwell TAF NAF
7 months B/M. The blue colour is darker than I would prefer and needs to clear, but nicely broken. Good ears, nice length to head, but I would prefer more underjaw. Good reach of neck and length to back. Needs to tighten in movement, but this should come with age.

1) PROCTOR’S Wilmaranna Out Of The Blue For Cathbri
9 months B/M. Good shade of blue, although at the moment there is a slight sable tinge to the coat, but this should clear with age. Nicely tipped ears and a very pleasing expression. Good body shape. Moved reasonably well, but rather proud of his tail.

2) WRAY’S Takhisis Dream Weaver
Similar in type to 1, but lacking in coat today. Good head and neat well used ears, good eye shape. Has a pleasing overall body shape, but would prefer a longer neck to complete the picture. Well angulated at rear. Moved okay.

1) FOY & HAWKINS’ Ch Beldones Black Illusion
Lovely class to judge headed by a tri dog that I have always admired and have done well in the past, I gave him best puppy then. At 6 years old he is now in his prime and looking as well as I have seen him. He has the cleanest of heads, sweetest of eyes, correctly placed stop and neat ears. He is well conformed and balanced throughout with good shoulders, good depth to rib and well angulated rear. Sound on the move. Well deserved CC & I was pleased to be able to award him BOB. Thank you for bringing him under me.

1) CONGDON’S Aaronwell Astral Dancer
Three blues all of a good type. My winner was more mature than the other two in the class, being at the top end of her age group. Her coat is a clear silvery blue. She has a pleasing head shape and sweet expression. Good conformation, with a nice reach to her neck and good angulation. Can have a tendency to overstretch at times when standing. Moved okay, although a bit roly poly at the moment.
2) JACKSON’S Ladnar Steppingstones
2 and 3 are litter sisters who are very similar in type at 7 months old. Both have pleasing outlines, sweet expressions and neat ears. This lady has a good head, although I would prefer a tad more underjaw. More positive on the move than her sister at this stage, although I am sure they will swap places on another day.
