Blackpool Championship Show 25th June 2017

Rough Collies

I would like to thank the Society for inviting me to judge and for my very efficient ring stewards. What a damp and drizzling day for the exhibitors and dogs to cope with. I had no choice but to start judging in the wet weather ring which was very cramped but thankfully by the completion of dog judging we were able to go outside and had a lovely spacious ring which the exhibitor’s seemed keen to make good use of.

I was very pleased with my entry but was concerned by strong back skulls and flared cheeks starting to appear in some of the younger exhibits.  I do like to see some refinement and elegance in head.

Temperaments were very good. Movement has improved and it was noticeable that more dogs were well muscled on the hind legs since I last judged the breed. Most exhibits were presented to a high standard.
I was delighted to see the Best Puppy and Best Junior both getting placed 3rd in their respective groups. I know the owners were so proud to represent the breed in the groups. My congratulations to all of you.

Good stop and lovely eye obliquely set giving an exquisite handsome expression. Ears correctly placed, long neck flowing into a good shoulder placement, nice length of back & well sprung ribs. The outdoor ring suited her.  She pushed hard for the Res CC.

Limit Bitch 10 (6) absent

  1. Loader’s Redola Just As Nice what a shame she was so tightly held on her lead. She is a quality bitch with lovely eye and expression but I only got a few glimpses as she kept shutting her eyes. She has a good neck and confirmation and moved ok. Just lacked a bit of sparkle.
  2. Lockyer’s Gataj Sweet Surprise  a new one to me. Very sweet eye and expression. Nice head pattern and neat ears. Coat in good condition, good confirmation but would prefer a little more length of back.
  3. Hodge’s Jopium Love Heart JW SHCM

Open Bitch 10 (3) absent

  1. Cronk’s Chelbourn Kiss’N Desire well presented sw. Lovely confirmation and balance which allowed her to move well. Pleasing head with correctly placed stop and eye. I would prefer a slightly sweeter expression but she is quality bitch. Moved well.

Veteran Bitch 7 (1) absent

    • CC Sibbald’s CH Lynmead Amalie Lucy Locket At Telforth my notes just said Amazing bitch which she is. I gave her the Res CC as a junior and now she is 7 years old. I love her confirmation and reach of neck. She is so feminine and has charisma.  There is nothing out of proportion.  Her beautiful head has lovely soft moulding; her eyes are so expressive with a twinkle in them. She emphasises this stunning expression with her correctly placed ears. She has lovely flowing movement. Beautifully presented. This lovely bitch has passed her quality to her daughter PGB winner and also produced a Champion son. She is worth her weight in gold. Wish she was mine.
    • Hawkin’s CH Brilyn Platinum Lustre another very worthy Champion. Such an attractive b.m in lovely coat and condition. Very pleasing head and expression. Super movement.
    • Fox &Moore’s Danfrebek Amazing Grace For Alanita
