Yorkshire Collie club open show February 7th 2016

I would like to thank the officers and committee for inviting me to judge at their open show on February 7th. We were made most welcome and the lunch provided was lovely. Thanks also to my Stewards, Chris and Angela, who worked hard all day and managed to wade through a plethora of rosettes at the end of the show. To the exhibitors who presented they dogs so beautifully, many thanks and I had a good range of roughs to deliberate over.
Veteran dog 2,1

  1. Wray’s Takhisis High Voltage.   9 yr. old blue merle. No signs of coarseness appearing in his head, which handles well. Clean wedge, good stop, kind dark almond eye, good ears. Good shoulder angulation and proportions of height to length are balanced with a good turn of stifle and he is as keen as mustard to please. On the move he was steady with a good gait. BVIB and pleased to see him go BVIS.

Minor Puppy dog 3,0

  1. Blakie’s Kourika Kosta Koffee. Smashing 6 ½ month jet black tri.  Lovely dark well shaped eye with good moulding to muzzle, stop breaking well and good ear carriage with flat skull. Chunky bone overall with tight feet, good turn of stifle. Height to length proportions good. Moved out confidently with puppy swagger.
  2. Blake’s Corydon Ludovic. Rich sable and white boy. Head is a good length, clean wedge, flat skull and good ear carriage, dark almond eye which I would prefer just a little bigger. Stop yet to break fully. Well off for bone, nice proportions overall, good shoulder angles and neck and bend of stifle. Moved well for one so young

Puppy dog 3,0

  1. Randall’s Ladnar Moondust. Handsome 9 ½ month tri in jet black coat. Good clean balanced wedge head flat skull, dark almond eye, good ear set. Balanced outline with good shoulder placement, length of back to height proportions good. Good turn of stifle and tight feet moved out with drive BPD.
  2. Stringfellow’s Kiramillie Konseveation 9 ½ month. Larger dog overall than 1. Longer head pattern but in proportion with balanced skull to muzzle, needs to clean out in stop and tighten up ear carriage.  Had good bone, appropriate shoulder angles and length of back in keeping with height. Needs to move out quicker to get drive into his movement.

Graduate dog 4,1

  1. Wray’s Takhisis Trick or Treat. Jet Black tri. Head handles very well, clean wedge, flat skull, spot on stop and a kind dark almond eye giving an appealing expression. Would just prefer his ears a bit tighter. Overall proportions are good, would prefer a bit more angulation to his front but that said he moved out well, has good ring presence and presented well.
  2. Rosschell Will I am at Libanel. tri boy with shorter head pattern to 1 but it handles well. Stop breaks appropriately would prefer his ears a bit tighter. Good overall balance in body with good angulation front and back. Little unsettled on the move today.

Post graduate dog  3,1

  1. Cooney’s Jopium Stole my Heart at Lingwell. Well put together masculine sable boy. Pleasing head pattern, well rounded muzzle, good almond eye, well placed giving a lovely expression. Stop breaks well has more than some here today but not too much and not too much depth in back skull, ears bang on. Good angles and proportions throughout his body with nice rise over the loin. Moved out with particularly good drive to his rear. RBD
  2. Calvert and Sargeant’s Coarhabeg Osprey. Tri colour. Longer head pattern than 1 but balanced can use his ears to his advantage.  Good length of back to height ration with good shoulder angulation. Moved out enthusiastically.

Limit dog 3,0

  1. Calvert and Sargeant’s Coarhabeg Snow Albatross. Good sized Blue merle. Clean wedge head pattern with a kind almond shaped eye set well. Good length of back to height proportions with good angulation.  Standing he can be too keen and shuffles forward causing him to tuck under at the rear. In reality he has a good top line and nice rise over his loin which shows well in his movement.
  2. Boyle’s Barrenclough Moonglow. JW  ShCM smaller dog overall than 1 but balanced throughout. Good clean wedge head, appropriate eye and ear placement and stop breaks well. Overall shape is balanced with good angulation although he also tucks under when standing. He moved out well but perhaps a little close in rear.

Open Dog 5,0

  1. Jeffries Chantique Hot Toddy.  Beautifully presented balanced dog with appropriate fitted coat and bags of ring presence. Head handles well, clean moulded lines with well placed stop, eye set is good with dark almond eye and he can use his ears to advantage. Good proportions throughout with angles to his shoulder giving the appropriate shape and stance. Angulation to the rear is good but if I was picky I might ask for a tad  more rise over the loin. He moves out steadily with good tail carriage.  BD BOS
  2. Mellish’s Demelewis Catchmydirft. Another beautifully presented dog blue merle of a good colour who shows well. No exaggerations throughout and an elegance of line. He has a longer wedge head with no extremes, stop breaks appropriately and good ear carriage. Good angulation front and rear and moved well.

 

Veteran bitch 1,0
1.Whitaker’s Sabiha’s Sweet Melody 8 year old well put together sable girl. No coarseness or exaggeration throughout. Head is a clean wedge shape, stop breaks well with appropriate eye set. Can use her ears when encouraged to do so. Good shoulder and length of back and good angles to the rear. Moved out with ease.
Minor puppy bitch 2,0

  1. Rigby’s Riverside Song Fountain of Love at Eximer. 7 month sable and white, raw but feminine pup. Fine foreface with room to fill yet, sweet expression with good ear set and stop breaking appropriately. Overall shape was pleasing with promising angles front and rear. One of the few here today who didn’t stand cow hocked. Moved out confidently with some puppy roll.
  2. Bartram’s Ambartr Born to Follow.7 month golden sable. Much larger type than 1. Needs time to mature, both in head and with balance throughout her body, which is often the case with larger collies. She has good ear carriage and promising angles to her body and moved ok.

Perhaps the trickiest class today with 4 lovely puppy bitches making the final line up.

  1. Boyle’s Monsolana Madam Blue over Barrenclough. 11month Blue merle girl of a good size with no exaggerations. Head is clean to handle, stop breaks well with flat skull and no indication of too much depth in the skull. Good eye set, ear carriage and pleasing expression. Good amount of bone and body is balanced with good angulation front and rear and rise over the loin. In a good dense coat but her outline and shape were not lost because of it. Moved out well. BPIB and pleased to see her go BPIS
  2.  Scott’s Chantique Toffee Apple. Extremely well balanced 10 month sable puppy. Slightly smaller and shorter all over to 1 but all in proportion. Very sweet feminine expression with a little more stop than 1 and therefore slightly deeper than 1 in back skull. Lovely eye and ear set. Overall pleasing shape, good neck and angles to front and rear and moved out well.

Junior Bitch 4,1

  1. Wray’s Beldones Duchess of Dreams JW.  14 month old sable bitch. Pleasing head pattern, nice clean lines and flat skull, clean stop and well placed almond eye giving an appealing expression.  Good lay of shoulder and turn of stifle and moved out with ease. Seriously considered her in the challenge.

  2. Dodsworth’s Libanel Magical Martinique. Sable girl who coat was at the dry cleaners but what you see is what you get. Wedgy head with no coarseness, kind eye set and good ear carriage. Proportions are good with angulation in the shoulder and rear giving her a good lay of shoulder and the rise over the loin. Coupling was a good length. Moved well as shape would suggest.

Graduate Bitch  8,1

  1. Vook’s Aniesh Forever blue. Larger nice coloured blue not in full coat. Appealing expression with 2 blue eyes and good ear set when used. I would prefer a little less depth in back skull but good flat skull.  Body shape is pleasing with good angulation giving her a good front construction. Moved out well keeping her top line.
  2. Rigby’s Kourika Krushed Krystal at Eximer. Everything was in proportion she was in good coat and moved and showed well with a feminine expression, stop breaks well, kind eye set, good ears when she uses them and flat skull. I would prefer a bit more underjaw. Overall balance with good. Smashing angulation front and rear and she stood, moved and showed well.  I just felt she could do with being an inch or so bigger overall. 

Post Graduate bitch 3,0

  1. Sibbald’s Telforth Little mix. Sable. Appealing expression, good eye set and shape, good ear set and flat skull.  Stop breaks well but not too much depth to the back skull. Fitted jacket with feathering which shows off her shape. Good angulation to front and rear and when she stands well she has a good profile showing balance throughout. Just need to watch she doesn’t tuck under when standing. On the move she travels well with drive to the rear and keeping her top line. RBB.  RBOB.
  2. Dodsworth’s Erjon Ebony Rose at Libanel. Good shaped tri with lots to like. Clean wedge shaped head, stop breaks cleanly, eye is good shape and placed well, ear carriage is good. Overall proportions are balanced with non-exaggerated angles front and rear and a good top line. Moved enthusiastically for her handler.

  1. Blakies Kourika Karrizma. Very well presented tri bitch in good coat with no exaggerations. Clean wedge head the length I like with lovely moulding, good stop, well placed dark almond eye and good ears giving a lovely expression. Good overall balance with good angles to front and rear. Good length of back. Moved out so well keeping a good top line, drive from the rear which looked effortless. BB BOB and pleased to see her go BIS. 
  2. Whitaker’s Jopium Magical Dream A well put together tri I have handled before and liked. Overall bigger than 1 but well proportioned. Wedgy head with a good underjaw. She has a reasonably deep stop and skull hair is exaggerating this at the moment.  She has a balanced body shape with good angulation to front and rear and height to length proportions are good. She moves well as her conformation would suggest.

Open bitch 5,3

    • Blake’s Demelewis Catch the Breeze for Corydon. Larger well presented tri girl. Clean wedge head with no coarseness and well balanced proportions in muzzle to skull ratio. Ears bang on and eyes oblique and set correctly although I would prefer a slightly larger eye. Good overall shape with no exaggeration in angulation front and rear which demonstrated itself on the move. Presented a balanced picture standing and on the move.
    •  Annable’s Danfrebek Magics Wildspice with Avisette. Elegant shaded sable girl. Head handles well, stop breaks appropriately and back skull is flat, no sign of flaring. Unfortunately something had spooked her and this showed in her expression today. Body shape is good with shoulder angulation giving her a good front and reach of neck. Good length of back. She moved out well.
