Midland Collie Club Open Show
Saturday 7th February 2015
I had a lovely day judging my first club open show with the Midland Collie Club. Sadly a lot of absentees but the quality of those present I thought excellent and I was very pleased with all of my winners. Thank you to everyone who turned out to exhibit and to the welcoming and friendly committee (and my brilliant stewards!) who took great care of me on the day.
Overall I was impressed at temperaments and presentation of most exhibits, though a couple could have been improved on the cleanliness front. Please remember that eyes should be clean as well as every other part of your dog.

What a delightful class to start the day. Three lovely veterans who could all give the youngsters a run for their money. I would be happy to take any of these three home with me.

Lovely quality s/w bitch, 10 years young. Super type with great outline and reach of neck, lovely length of head, nicely shaped and placed eye. Moved out well defying her years then gave the younger ladies a run for their money in the challenge. RBB & BVIS

  1. Growcott’s Chantique Simply Smashing at Rushforth

7 y/o shaded sable dog in super condition. He has that lovely mix of a masculine yet sweet expression. Pleasing head pattern, moved out well.

Almost 9 month old alert and flashy golden sable boy who stood and just showed his socks off. Clean head for his age, nice outline with pleasing lay of shoulder and reach of neck. Moved out well and just pipped number 2 on maturity for me. On another day they could swap places.

Handsome s/w dog with the cleanest of wedge heads and lovely flat skull. Lovely shaped and sized eye and expression and oozes quality throughout. Everything in its place and no doubt will be stunning with a little more time.

  1. Tipper’s Tiganlea Too Good to be Forgotten

Very masculine boy, there is no doubting that this dog is a dog. Outstanding bone and substance presented in exceptional condition. Head is a good clean wedge, would like to see his ears tighter as when carried wider they make him look wider in backskull but when you get your hands on him, he is not. This boy stood out for me with his movement today – he is so very light on his feet and moves effortlessly but with super drive and a poker straight parallel rear which is an absolute joy to see. Appealing eye and alert yet sweet expression to this boy. Good length of body. In that familiar junior phase they all go through but a quality dog nevertheless.

  1. McLaughlin’s Rydeen Jamboree at Brihow (Imp Deu) JW

Masculine Tricolour dog, jet black, super colour and presentation. I loved the length of his head - his eye for me is beautifully medium shaped, almond set obliquely and creates a glorious collie expression with a lovely shaped muzzle. Nice outline when standing.

  1. Cooney’s Jopium Stole my Heart at Lingwell

Loved this boy too, not much between him and 1. He has a lovely masculine expression and again a lovely clean head. Good size and substance. Moved out well with good reach at front.

Tri dog, a very nice balanced boy full of personality. Lovely length of back and beautifully presented. Well made throughout and excelled on the move with a lovely tight parallel rear action.

  1. Jeffries’ Chantique Hot Toddy at Deorwine

Loved this dog, presented in outstanding and gleaming condition. What a credit to his owners. Well constructed throughout, well muscled and therefore moved out with drive and a spring in his step. He is also a glorious colour, and stood and showed non stop creating a quite lovely picture. Lovely head pattern with clean lines and an expression which does bring a smile to your face and melted me on the day to win him RBD.

Flashy sable dog of excellent bone and substance. Good size, showed well. Moved with drive from a well angulated rear.

  1. Hawkins’ & Foy’s Beldones the Real Deal BD, RBIS

S/w dog in every way my type with a super eye shape and set, loved his expression when he chose to use his ears which disappointingly he was reluctant to do but managed to do at the key moments. Head lines demonstrating the parallel planes we seek, well placed stop and lovely rounded muzzle. Beautifully made throughout but it was his movement that captivated me as he powered down the ring with drive and purpose.

Blue bitch, good length of back to height ratio. Nicely marked head, eye a good shape and size. Moved soundly. BPB

Blue bitch, nicely proportioned throughout. Used ears attentively.

  1. Jopium Stuck in a Moment with Jamesfair

Lots to like about this little girl and I would like to see her in full bloom, as she is only just out of the puppy classes. Good overall balance and outline, very well made throughout. I would like a touch more length of head but she has a lovely set eye and an appealing expression. Moved freely and with drive.

  1. Broadhead’s Rhodabern Whisper and Kiss

Beautifully presented pretty shaded sable petite lady with a wonderful shape and outline. For me, she has a lovely proportioned length of body to height. Stood and showed well for her dad and was a real picture. Clean head, nice amount of stop, lovely dark well shaped and set eye. She is another who is a credit to her owners. Wasn’t quite as animated on the move as I would have hoped but on another day, could have taken one of the top awards and I will look out for her at future shows.

  1. Davies’ Tiganlea Silver Trinket at Sabiha

Another very well presented bitch although not in full coat and unlucky to meet 1 on the day. She stood and showed very intently and had a delightful temperament. Clean head, flat skull, moved smoothly.

Mature blue lady with a lovely clean wedge head, nicely shaped eye and sweet expression. Used ears well. Shoulders well made, good depth of chest. Strides out.

Very nicely shaped bitch, very balanced throughout. A pretty girl with a nicely laid shoulder, moved out freely with good reach at front.

  1. Hawkins’ & Foy’s Fr Ch Eloise des Beldones

I ran out of writing space on my notes page when writing my notes on the day. This bitch absolutely took my breath away and made my heart sing from the moment she entered the ring. In every way for me, the epitome of breed type, this bitch is a true class act and impassive dignity she is the definition of. Outstanding presentation, her neatly fitting coat had just the right amount of furnishings to be elegant without being too much. Her size, balance, well-proportioned length of body and outline were a joy to see. Lovely head patterns with smooth, well rounded foreface, good position and amount of stop, perfectly sized, shaped and placed dark eye creating an expression that could melt anyone’s heart. Her shoulders are well laid, her rear quarters well angled and her movement is smooth, effortless and powerful. Everything I could hope for and I was over the moon to award her BB and BIS. I would take her home in a heartbeat. Congratulations.
