Breed Notes
2022 -review part 2

Breeding analysis for 2022 winners

Interesting to note that of all the CC & Rcc of 2022 the sires of these were quite varied.

Only one sire produced 4 separate CC winners, 3 others produced 3 separate winners which leaves 9 other sires producing more than a single CC winner.

The total number of CC winners, sired by a particular dog was a tie between both Ch Chelborn Kiss n Tell and Ch One Extraordinary Blu di Cambiano, but with the late Reco producing a new Ch.

Ch Chelborn Kiss N Tell, a tricolour, owned a bred by Vanessa Cronk, produced the new Ch in Chelborn Storyteller for Vanessa, who gained his first CC as a puppy back in 2017 but then annexed 3 more wins in 2022.  Skabona Kiss From Heaven journeyed over from Scandanavia with owner Natalia & Bo Skalin and won a CC and 2 Rcc’s at just the three shows he attended. Whilst Tony & Daphne Iley piloted Arklethill Delilah at Ileyda to win 2 CC’s and 2 rcc.

Ch/ Int Ch One Extraordinary Blu di Cambiano, a Blue Merle, owned by Gianpaulo Falletto but bred by Maria-Teresa Garabelli was campaigned to all his wins by Valerie Geddes and produced the following winners: Ingledene Fantasy of Blue, 2 CC + 1 Rcc; Ch Ingledene Mercury Risin’ 2 CC for the Ingledene kennel; Ch Ladnar Mustriharder, a tri, won 1 CC and 2 RCC for Dave & Sue Randall. Phreelancer Chill Phactor at Elshajo, bred by Lene Newman, is a blue who won both a single CC and rcc for Eleri Bluck.

Also living at Ingledene is Ch I Late Nite Legend who spent a few months in Denmark and he is a sable who produced 2 separate winners. Ingledene Nite N’enchanted who won a rcc and the Crufts CC winner Ch Serenlas Obsession a first Champion for Stefani Flower.
Another Ingledene sire was Ch I Spirits Arise who is the sire of 2 winners, Ch I Spirit of Ecstasy (rcc) and the well known blue merle, Nellie. To give her full name Ch Saganan Blue Diamond who annexed 3 CC’s and a rcc to bring her total to 7 all with BOB, bar 1.

Stonehaven Pride Golden Touch at Salsina, who lives with Jayne & Carl Llewellyn, sired a new Champion in Artziak Selina de Salsina (2cc); Salsina Sharing Secrets a rcc winner and the CC winning Wassail Call The Midwife for Di & Reg Ware.
John & Caroline Tipper had a new Champion sired by their Ch Tiganlea Too Good To Be Forgotten in Ch Tiganlea Too Good To Be True who also won 4 rccs. Before returning home to Hungary, Ch & Int Ch Tiganlea Make Good Time annexed not only a rcc but also the BIS trophy at the re-scheduled BCC show for her owner Monika Bardos but always handled by co-breeder, John Tipper.

Jopium Stole My Heart at Lingwell, bred by Jo Hodges but owned by Brenda Cooney not only won himself a rcc but also sired the CC winning Ch Jopium Love Heart JW ShCm for Jo and Jopium Danny Boy at Lingwell was also a rcc winner.

Chantal & Andre Scott imported from France, Magical Moon of Lowlands Green Valley for Chantique, who gained his UK title in 2019 but recently sired the Crufts winner of Chantique Magical Mystery for Charlene Turner but handled as usual by partner Luis and he won a 2nd cc and a rcc later in the year. Avonfair Spellbound with Salsina also annexed a rcc for Jayne & Carl but if memory serves was handled on the day by breeder, Michelle Mitchell.

Lynmack Walk All Over You at Roughrigg sired the new Champion, Roughrigg Rag’n’Bone Man who eventually, having won 6 Rcc’s, in the year annexed his title for Morag & Jim McCarte. His other winner was the rcc winning Roughrigg Remember Me.

Melissa Lockyear’s Ch Perfect Timing du Clos De Sea-Wind sired the 2 rcc winners of Gataj Out of The Woods and Gataj Good Time Girl

Miranda Blake who had the honour of judging bitches at Crufts has Corydon Winning Factor in the home kennel and he produced the CC winning Corydon Pol Roger, a blue merle and the rcc Crufts winner, Mejola Main Event for Jo White.

Odile and Brian bring this section to a close with stock at their UK Beldones kennel. 5 CC winners were produced from both Ch Beldones Black Illusion (a tricolour son of Ch Chelborn Kiss n Tell) and Beldones Double Diamond, a sable. They were the dual CC winning Beldones Looks Like Fun (2+1);  Phreelancer Phaith Hill (1+1) for Lene Newman. Double Diamond sired 3 separate winners in  Ch Hanvale Polly Shelby (rcc) for Hannah and Simon Walder; The CC winning Gataj Girls Best Friend for Melissa Lockyer and Culbrae Red Again who annexed a RCC. Mention must also be made of another at Beldones, Honky Tonk Man of River Tweed who sired Ch Beldones La Vita Bella for Hanvale who returned to the ring to win a further CC’s and 2 rcc wins.

In bitches, there really is no clear leading dam, but all the following mentioned produced more than one winner:
Beldones Fun n Games at Roughrigg, bred by Brian & Odile but in the ownership of Morag & Jim McCarte,  is the dam of the new Champion, Ch Roughrigg Rag n Bone Man, winner of 2 CC’s and 6 rcc along with Roughrigg Remember Me winner of a single rcc

Hazelnut des Vergers de Iacchos is still writing breed history, having been born in 2012 and from just 3 litters, at Tiganlea for John & Caroline Tipper, she is the dam of the new Champion Tiganlea Too Good To Be True who won 1 CC and 4rcc’s and also dam of Int Ch Tiganlea Make Good Time who also won a rcc

Ch Ingledene Sprit of Ecstasy, owned and bred by Valerie & John Geddes, is herself a rcc winner in 2022. She produced the blue merle brothers, Ch Ingledene Mercury Risin’ (2CC’s) and Ingledene Fantasy of Blue who also won 2 plus a reserve.

Melissa Lockyer’s import, Nasty Girl du Clos de Sea-Wind is the dam of 3 separate winners, all of whom have won a rcc for the Gataj kennel. They are G. Good Time Girl, G. Honey Bee and G Out of the Woods.

Now to the kennels who originally housed winners (before /after new homes)
With 6 different collies, Melissa Lockyer and her Gataj kennel have had the most winners, ably helped by husband Graham who has surpassed himself and won quite a few of the 7 CC’s, 6 rcc wins and now houses the new Champions in Gataj Struck By Lightning, Think of Me Prince of Sunlight at Gataj. Other winners are: Gataj Girl’s Best Friend (1cc); and the rcc winners of: Good Time Girl, Honey Bee and Out of The Woods.

Both Jo Hodges and Val & John Geddes have bred 5 collies all winning.

First at Ingledene they acquired 4CC’s and 4rcc with Ch  I Mercury Rising (2), his brother, I, Fantasy of Blu (2 and a rcc); I Nite N’Enchanted, I Sno Dream at Thistlewing and Ch  I Spirit of Ecstasy (dam of the 2 CC winners) won 4 rccs between them

Both Brian and Odile with their Beldones and Margo, Gary & Louise Walker and their Starlenga kennel won with 3 separate collies each but Starlenga had a new Champion in Starlenga All About Me (3+1) and it was Brian who started her winning streak with a rcc!  Starlenga Nina Simone, a blue merle won 2 CC’s and S. Harry Potter at Elshajo won 2rcc’s including one at Crufts

Beldones won 5 CC’s with Ch B. La Vita Bella at Hanvale (3+2); B. Looks Like Fun won 2 +1 and finally B. Magical Bliss kept the kennel name flying with her rcc

The remaining kennels all won one more than 1CC during 2022, some making up their first ever Champion! Alphabetically:

Lene Newman and her Phreelancer kennel produced 2 CC winners in Phreelancer Phaith Hill for her and Phreelancer Chill Phactor for Elshajo for owner Eleri Bluck

Roughrigg, based in Scotland had the thrill of making up R. Rag n Bone Man after a run of 6rcc’s and Roughrigg Remember Me also wona rcc.

To win a CC at Crufts is always something special but to gain that elusive 3rd CC from Veteran was the icing on the cake for Steffani Flower when her Serenlas Obsession did exactly that, thus giving her a first Ch for her kennel. Not be to be outdone, kennel mate Serenlas Pumpkin Spice topped off a good puppy career by winning a CC too

In the show ring, although we did not obtain any Pastoral places, a few collies were short listed from those who stayed. There were three  “Double CC Wins”
First at Working & Pastoral Breeds of Wales, from judge Sigurd Wilberg, (Kanix) the two winners were Phreelancer Chill Phactor at Elshajo and Phreelancer Phaith Hill
Then at Border Union and Angela Harvey (Wicani) the winners were Ch Brooklynson El Dorado and Ch Brooklynson Jayne Russell at Oakestelle.

At SKC, in October, Vanessa Cronk piloted both Ch Chelborn Story Teller and Chelborn Wish List to CC’s awared by Dermott Timmins (Kynan

From our winners, the colour breakdown is as follows: For the dogs, 7 sable & white, 5 tricolour and 9 blue merles featured as winning CC’s and for the ladies, 15 sable and white, 3 tricolours and 4 blue merles

And the final breakdown of colours by new Champion it is 1 new tricolour male, and 5 sables with no new blue merles being made up. In bitches we had 2 tricolours and 6 sables, again no new Champion blue ladies to record.
