Breed Notes
30th September 2022

Northern Ireland called to a few this last week-end, with the offer of CC’s on following days at both Irish Collie and Belfast Ch Show and for those not able or wishing to go, there was an alternative Breed Club Open show available to attend as well.
Both Ch shows were held indoors at The Eikon Centre, Balmoral Park, Lisburn, although ICC had hoped to be outside but it was not to be. Quite few booked their ferry crossing from either Liverpool (Birkenhead) or Stranraer direct to Belfast, some making good savings by using the special discount coded offered by both ICC and Belfast
To allow those travelling over, Irish Collie judging had a later start of not before 11.30am with judge, Morag McCarte (Roughrigg) officiating. This was her 2nd appointment, having previously judged at Midland Counties in 2019.
The entry was around normal for ICC, which is headed by Secretary, Grenville Francis (Peblu) and a small but dedicated committee helped out but on the day, due to a lack of available people, Jim McCarte was “roped in” to act as Steward. There were a few absentees as unfortunately, due to health issues with their stock, some were unable to attend.
The first class, MP, had Beldones Harry Styles at Ileyda and Tony & Daphne Iley standing alone. Puppy went to Jayne Llewellyn and Avonfair Spellbound with Salsina, ably handled by his breeder, Michelle Mitchell.  Melissa won Yearling with Gataj Out of The Woods and Liam Kelly took Limit with Ballahanna All Bets Off. Graham Lockyer handled Melissa’s Ch Struck By Lightning to win Open and Veteran was a nice win for Mae Melvin and Joan Jopson with Leeamanway River Phoenix at Nithview.
Morag awarded her CC to the Open winner, known at home as Storm, this was his 4th CC, interesting to note his first was awarded by Grenville at British earlier on this year. If you are interested, he is sired by Lynmack Thunderstruck out of Gataj Girl’s Best Friend. 2nd in Open and called in was Edward Nealon’s Ir Ch Ezzmare King of Hearts, handled by daughter Suzie but the RDCC went to the winner of MP, Michelle Mitchell handling for Jayne Llewellyn. He is sired by Ch Magical Moon of Lowland Green Valley for Chantique, out of Salsina Secret Love Song at Avonfair, born Dec 2021 and according to the catalogue, bred by Mr D and Mrs M Mitchell and Mrs M Jordan
In bitches, the following won their classes:  Avonfair Secret Love Letter to Salsina, (sister to the reserve dog cc winner) won Puppy; Brian and Odile won Junior with Beldones Sound Gold; Nelinka de Remember Our Love for Starlenga won PG for the Walker family and Tony & Daphne won Limit with Arklethill Delilah at Ileyda; Brian & Odile won Open with Beldones Looks Like Fun and the only entry in Veteran was absent.
Taking her 2nd CC was the Open winner, Beldones Looks Like Fun. She is sired by Ch Beldones Black Illusion out of Ch Beldones Fit For Fun, and she too, gained her 1st CC at British from Tracey Jackson (Sassari) and many thanks to Odile for letting me know of their wins.
Winning the RBCC from Limit was Arklethill Delilah at Ileyda, by Ch Chelborn Kiss n Tell out of Ch Arklethill Helena and bred by David Boyle. She already holds 2 CC’s and now has 2 Rcc’s to her name.
BVIB was the only 1 present, Leeamanway River Phoenix at Nithview; BPIS went to the precocious MP boy with BOB and BIS went to Melissa and Graham with Ch Gataj Struck By Lightning
The following day, Roughs had a similar late start due to their judge, Tom Johnston, who is currently Sec of Scottish Breeds, had other breeds beforehand and is yet another 1st time judge awarding CC’s to our breed. The entry, again, was similar and the result in dogs was identical, with Graham taking a 5th CC with “Storm”. However, the RDCC went to Rob & Margaret Ship with their sable, No More Heroes du Clos de Sea-Wind JW and he stood 2nd in Open. Bred in France by Giles Mervant, he was born in October 2017. Sired by Desperado du Clos De Sea-Wind out of I'm A Barbie Girl du Bois des Amazones.
Other class winners included: Leeamanway River Phoenix at Nithview (Veteran); Monsolana Franz von Assisi mit Peblu who won Puppy for Grenville Francis; Gataj Out of The Woods won Graduate for Melissa; Hazel Brown and Joan Jopson took Limit with Nithview This Is Me.
Now to the ladies and at last I am pleased to report that we have another new Champion to grace our records. This was Gillyflower Della Buca Delle Fate (Imp Italy) owned by Rob & Margaret Shipp and bred by Lisa Ricciardi. Sired by More and More Della Buca Della Fate (It Ch) out of Rather Be Della Buca Delle Fate. She won her 1st CC in 2019 from Marina McLoughlin, her 2nd this year at Driffield from Lyn Maxwell and in between collected a total of 7 reserve CC’s, some 3 of which were won this year. A lovely message from Margaret and Rob  to confirm this win and make their extended holiday a little more special.
Winning the RBCC was another for Melissa in the form of Gataj Honey Bee (Ch Once Upon A Time du Clos de Sea-Wind with Gataj ex Nasty Girl du Clos de Sea-Wind at Gataj) and she was the only entrant, present, in Graduate and I think this is her 2nd such award.
Other class winners were: Avonfair Secret Love Letter to Salsina, Beldones Sound Gold, Ballahanna Bon Ami for Sharon Drewery who won Novice.  Gataj Good Time Girl took Graduate, Starlenga All About Me won Limit for the Walker family and no Veterans present.
BOB and representing us in the group, judged by Steve Atkinson was the newly crowned Gilly and looking at the videos, put up a good show. A message from Joan Jopson and Mae Melvin and the Best Veteran In Breed, River, known officially as Leeamanway River Phoenix at Nithview who was rather unsettled and they went to the Group Stewards to inform them they would not be present and found out that the society did not announce the group and therefore they and others were unable to be present.
Now to the last show report, The Open Show for West of England Collie Society, held at their usual venue of East Huntspill Village Hall on the Sunday. However, although I have not paid membership to the society for a while, I actually was surprised to read that this show was taking place as schedules did not appear to be advertised on the normal sites. If you do not advertise your show, or are not a current member, how can a society expect to gain entries?
It was a really poor entry number wise for judge, Sheila Beeney.  There were just 24 Roughs and on the day there were 5 absent. Smooths were judged by Mrs M Wood (Cooperland) and there were 20 entered and SAC classes confined purely for smooths had Georgina Howard, daughter of Nick & Anne Smith judging.
From the 8 males present, MP (1) was won by Bolt & Cronk’s Revdvicki’s Raffles at Chelborn. Puppy (1) was Serenlas Black Magic for Susan Hawkins.  Junior (2) went to Atirakin Snow Slides on High, owned by Mr & Mrs Melone. Spl Yearling (2) was won by Ingledene Dark Moon Risin’ (who had been beaten in Junior) and is owned by Miss R Tilley. Novice had 2 seen dogs and won by Serenlas Black Magic. Graduate(2) was won by Brookynut Storm’s Legacy for Mrs J Hogg who also won PG. There were no entries in either Limit or Open and the 2 entrants in Veteran were absent. Best Dog went to Serenlas Black Magic, who was also BPD what a lovely start to a show career for both new owner and her puppy who is a tricolour. RBD went to Wicani The Makers Mark, who won Graduate for Mr & Mrs Melone
Bitches were slightly better in numbers with Shelley Skinner winning Veteran with Samhaven Time is Money with Nikal but stood alone. Minor Puppy had 2 entrants with Marilake Songbird winning for Donna Baker; Stefani won Puppy (2) with Serenlas Pumpkin Spice (sister to BD) and also won Novice; Junior (1) had Amalie Loves To Shimmy and Mrs Mills winning and  her other entrant, Samhaven Super Natural at Willowcombe won Sp Yearling. Donna Baker won PG with Beldones Uptown Girl  of Rosschell and the biggest class of the day, which had 4, but one absent, was won by Stefani and  Serenlas Pagan Moon, dam of the BPD and BPB. In the final bitch awards, Stefani won BB and BPB and overall won BOB with Pagan’s Moon. RBOB and BPIB went her son, owned by Susan Hawkins and BVIB to Shelley and Mia. Thank you to both Shelley and Stefani for letting me have the results of the show, maybe a marked catalogue will arrive later. BIS went to the smooth, RBIS to Pagans Moon, BPIS to her son and BVIS to the smooth.
