Breed Notes
16th September 2022

Yorkshire Collie held a Ch Show last weekend and it was quite a family affair, which, I shall try and explain later.

The Sec of YCC is Christine Biggs, (Spirecroft) and she was yet another new first time judge, along with Cathy Howard who judged for the first time last week but this time, it was her first time to hand out CC’s to the males.

Held outside under heavy skies, the prayers of the Committee worked as rain did not fall until all judging was completed. There was plenty of space and lovely large rings for all at the Sheffield Transport Sports Club Ground, Lowedges, Sheffield.

Bitches were first in the ring at 10.30am for Christine but I am starting with males, who commenced at 11.0am for Cathy Howard

With 34 dogs, and only 5 absentees, Cathy’s first class of 4 was Veteran and won by Miranda and Louis, now a sprightly 11¾ years young and certainly showed many of the youngsters how to move. He is actually Demelewis Catch The Blues for Corydon, bred by Maxine Mellish, sired by Ch Corydon Once In A Blue Moon out of Demelewis Mooncatcher and at the end of the day, not only won his class but also BVD and BVIB but also BVIS and with that lovely win under his collar, I understand retirement beckons.

MP went to John Tipper and his tri boy, Arty, whose details I am sure you can recall easily and with no entries in Puppy he was again BPD.
Junior was won by Sam Parnham and her blue, Caribbean Bly Sky Actis to Samante, an import from Poland. Bred by Elira Zasun sired by Chpl Karibbean Light Sipion Valaquenta out of  Mtchpl Blackfire Actis and born 27th July 2021.
With no entries in Maiden, Graduate went o Jackie Dix and her Barrenclough Diamond Skies. (Barrenclough Diamond Days ex Barrenclough Touch of Thyme) PG followed, won by Angela Harvey and Afterglow Invocation, a shaded sable, by Wicani Invoking Spirit out of Wicani Hot Property of Afterglow and bred by Jason Lynn.
Limit was won by Aqualita It’s A Miracle for Derek and Hazel Allsopp, bred by Edith Pryor and sired by Ch Aqualita Dr No out of Aqualita Lady of The Lake and he was born July 19.
Open went to the recent RCC winning blue of Natalia Skalin and Ilona Teslovica, Multi Titled Skabona Kiss From Heaven and his details were given following his win at L&P from Ros MacDonald.

It was without hesitation that Cathy awarded a 1st CC to Christopher as he is known at home for handler and joint owner Natalia Skalin.

Called in, and taking home was Ch Ladnar Mustriharder who had stood 2nd in Open for Dave & Sue Randall and I am sure you all know his breeding too.

Back to the ladies, and winning Veteran was Ambartr Born To Follow, owned by Phillip and Rachel Bartram from Nottingham. She is sired by Sailsby The Stars to Wicani out of Jards Crystal Rose Gold at Ambartr.

Minor Puppy had Vanessa Cronk winning with Chelborn Gambler’s Wish (Int Ch Skabona The Gambler at Chelborn ex Chelborn Wish List) Puppy went to Takhisis Lady of Mystery for Sophie Wray-Ramsden and she is sired by Ch Magical Moon of Lowlands Green Valley for Chantique out of Takhisis Lady of Illusions.

Jo White and her Mejola Main Event won Junior, and with it, subject to KC Confirmation was the last point for her JW. Duna Jones won Maiden with the blue, Erjon Evening Mist, owned in partnership with grand-son Josh Blackburn. She is sired by Ch Ladnar Mustriharder out of Erjon Exclusively Special.

The Bartram’s won Graduate with Ambartr Troubled Gold. Sired by Ambartr King of The Road out of Wicani My Molasses and born August 2021.

Post Grad was won by Essenjay Scarlet Ribbons, for Mr & Mrs Williams and she is sired by Essenjay Dark Moon Rising out of Ingledene Seasons In The Sun at Essenjay and born 9th Sept 2019.

Stella, better known to all as Tiganlea Twinkling Star won another Limit class, handled as usual by her co-breeder/owner John Tipper. She is sired by Camanna Colour Me Perfect out of Tiganlea Thank Heaven and is a blue merle.

Transferred from Graduate where she was accidentally entered, to Open was Erjon Ebony Jewels a tricolour, owned and bred by Duna and Josh but so well handled to take this class by Duna’s daughter, Alison. Alison has previously shown but not since a young girl and now some years later returned to the ring to help her mum out. Known at home this tri is called Mad Maisie, she is by Erjon Euraser out of Erjon Esmay.

Christine considered all her class winners and awarded a 1st CC to Stella and John, she already has 3 RCC wins in her possession with the RCC going to “Mad Maisie” handled by Alison. Interesting to note both of these have the late Ch Erjon Ebony Joker featuring in their pedigrees.

BOB went to Christopher and Natalia with BPIB going to Vanessa and Betty, BVIB to Miranda and Louis. YCC also scheduled Smooth collies with Bill Rogerson centre stage; his choice for BOB went to Blamorder Sunny Sky and BPIB to Wynele Dressed To Thrill At Breckamore.

The final show resulted in Mick Taylor (Bruernish) awarding BIS to Natalia and Christopher, RBIS and BOSIS to Blamorder Sunny Sky with BPIS again to Ann French and her smooth puppy

Now to Richmond who had un-envious task of deciding to hold, or not hold the Ch show in view of recent Royal events. Unlike the last time when the show was held on “Royal Grounds” this show was held at Loseley Park and therefore they went ahead but without incidents which affected our ring and classes where judging had to be suspended due to the collapse of an exhibitor in another breed. Help was on hand, and thanks to all concerned with the administration of CPR aided by Paramedics, the outcome was not fatal, so thanks to all concerned for their quick actions.

The judge for the day was Lisa Pettit (Lakebank) who last judged our breed in 2015 at Nat Working & Pastoral Breeds but also judges Shetland Sheepdogs and for some years was Show Secretary for EACA.

The entry of 56 was depleted by absentees and those not wishing to attend in view of circumstances
There were no Veteran boys entered and our regular 2 MP lads exchanged places with Vanessa winning with Chelborn Gambling List. Junior was won by Ladnar Dreamchaser, standing alone for Sue Howard, Valerie Newton and Ann Patterson.

Jan Milligan was also alone in Yearling with Alfsden He Lives In You, as was Janet James in Novice with Deanjan Dambuster.

Jo White won PG with the only entrant Camanna Chasing Clouds Over Mejola and Gwen Beadon took Limit with Marvalan Spirit of Rock.

It was not until Open, where 10 were entered, with 1 missing were all the class places filled. This went to Vanessa Cronk and her tri boy, Chelborn Story Teller and he won the class and his 3rd CC. His details were given when he won at Birmingham City and he is now the 9th new Champion to add to our records. Standing 2nd in Open and taking another RDCC was the recent winner at YCC, Christopher (Mult Ch Skabona Kiss From Heaven) handled by Natalia Skalin.

Now to the ladies, and taking Veteran was Marianne Benton with her Ch Brooklynson Jayne Russell of Oakestelle (Brooklynson James Bond ex Brooklynson Joanna) and born in Nov 2014.

Vanessa continued her lovely day with a win in MP with Chelborn’s Gambler’s List whilst Alexis Swain piloted her A Touch of Blaze for Lexcol to win Puppy. Sired by Aaronwell Ashley Banjo out of Monsolana Magic Magic Star for Aaronwell, born in Nov 2021 and bred by Ms Barbara Griffiths.

Both Junior and Yearling were won by Jo White and her Mejola Main Event (Corydon Winning Factor ex Mejola Main Attraction).

Claudia Grove won Novice with Only My Lady In Gold Della Verde Scozia from Italy. She is bred by Davide Lassini and sired by Another Love Claudia Della Verde Scozia out of a bitch called Stella and born in July 2021.

Doreen Bellamy and Vicky Murray were alone in Graduate with Starlenga She’s All That for Beloreen. Bred by the Walker family in Scotland, she is by Ch Jugband Blues du Clos de Sea-Wind via Aaronwell out of Nelinka De Remember Our Love For Starlenga.

Di Collino and Imaginist Perfect Pitch won a PG class of 5; she is by Wicani Simon Templar out of Imaginist Bird On A Wire. Jo White continued her good day winning Limit with Mejola Special Reserve (Corydon Riffson ex Mejola Main Attraction)

Open had 6 ladies present and topping these and winning her 6th CC was non-other than Nellie. Ch Saganan Blue Diamond. Just to refresh your memory she is sired by Ch Ingledene Spirits Arise out of Saganan Lady True Blue and Gwen sent a message confirming that Nellie crashed out on the sofa having eaten her well deserved dinner and she stayed – typical collie. Taking back to Swindon was Rob Shipp and their sable, Gillyflower Della Buca Delle Fate, whose details were listed when she won the CC recently at Driffield. Margaret reminded me that Richmond has been quite a lucky show for them as in the past they won Gilly’s 1st CC here along with a RBCC for Naomi. Well done and thanks for letting me know.

At the end of the day, BOB went to Nellie, BP to Vanessa and Chelborn’s Gambling List. Marianne took BVIB with her sable Ch and BSPB went to Claudia Grove with her Novice winner.

Well, at last some good news, as in the Pastoral Group, Nellie pulled out all the “stops” and was short-listed by Diane Mottram and Marianne and Ch Brooklynson Jane Russell of Oakestelle won 3rd in the Veteran Stakes from Mrs J Ward. I understand that although she stayed our puppy was not placed and I have no news of the Special Beginners Stakes judged by Mark Cocozza. Maybe, and I only assume here, did anyone make our entrant aware?
