Now to some show news. Lancashire & Cheshire held a well supported Open show at the Lightning Club, Warton, Preston with Secretary Ray Wilkinson (Pockethall) judging. Taking the entries was Bill Rogerson, Vice Chairman and Treasurer.
Ray is an approved judge for a few Pastoral breeds, including Border Collies, GSD, Lancashire Heelers and Old English Sheepdogs and he is B Listed on their own club list. He was also nominated to judge the Smooth Collies but do an oversight, was replaced by Committee member, Marianne Grindley. The entry for Roughs was a good 50, however, the results showed a few missing on the day with 13 Smooths and a lovely SAC entry for Shelley Skinner (Nikal)

The same weekend, our KC held their “Discover Dogs” and setting up the stand for our breed were representatives of London & Provincial CC and the following is a report direct from Di Collino, Secretary for L&P. Thanks very much.
DISCOVER DOGS - OCT 15 & 16 - LONDON EXCEL from Di Collino Secretary, London & Provincial
London & Provincial Collie Club represented the Rough Collie breed at this prestigious event where the Kennel Club had attracted what seemed like a large number of visitors to meet lots of breeds of dogs. It was certainly very busy around the breed booths and the retailers appeared to be doing well too. The Club had decided that it was time to refresh the look of the booth and with a big dollop of help from our Smooth Collie friends, Keira & Matt Martin, invested in 8 large banners depicting different aspects of our Breed. These included exercise requirements, grooming, activity levels and more. They were a really useful tool for helping the public ask meaningful questions so that instead of ‘I bet they take a lot of grooming’, we were asked ‘how often do they moult’, etc which is a proper question and can be answered sensibly. It was good to see the public looking at the pictures of collies being active and reading the information provided. Some amazing photographs were donated for the banners (many thanks to all those people from the showing and agility world who provided these) so that the final result actually exceeded the Club’s expectations and L & P plan to use these not only for public exhibitions but also when running seminars in the future. The banners also make it incredibly easy to dress the booth quickly and remove everything afterwards for storage which is a real bonus! The icing on the cake was that another breed came forward and asked to take photographs of our stand because they plan to copy the idea! Huge thanks to my fellow committee members, Peter & Gina Stillwell, Alexis Swain, Jenny Hopper and Janine Hanson, plus good friend Becky Christmas who all worked on the stand with me, and last but not least our fabulous rough collies who were total stars and proved yet again that the temperament of a good rough collie is second to none! Please take a bow - Chatter, Alfie, Sienna, Tuppence, Rita and Kaydee.
