Breed Notes
11th November 2022

Working & Pastoral Breeds of Scotland has no CC’s on offer for our breed, I can’t actually recall when the CC’s were lost but it was around 1998 and up until then they always received good entries of approx 100 – 120. It is also one of the shows where a Rough won BIS. This was under breed judge the late Terry Thorn and BIS judge, also no longer with us, Joe Kirk (Cregagh). The collie in question was the sable bitch Ch Amalie Sweet Surprise, owned and bred by Anne Hollywood. She was sired by Mallicot Ace of Base out of Amalie Sucha Surprise. If memory serves, she was the dam of Anne’s Ch Amalie Deep In My Soul before leaving here to live with Peter Farrell (Belrah) where she produced
winners for him too. I also recall winning the RBCC with our own Ch Antoc Crystal Rainbow!

Today, just a couple weeks following his appointment at Collie Club of Wales, Simon Walder (Hanvale) was again centre stage. His entry was very similar to that he received at CCW (28) and here there were just 24 from the original 26, present waiting for his assessment. Best Dog went to the now Ch Roughrigg Rag n Bone Man for Morag & Jim McCarte, today, for a change he was handled by Morag! . Reserve Best Dog going to Culbrae Red Again for Linda Watt,
both from the Open Class of 5. Puppy dog was won by Thistlewings Andromeda; Junior went to Shanaburn Country Road and Wilma Brodie. PG to Jopium Front Runner for Karen Johnston.

Bitches had 15 entered over 4 classes and Best Bitch went to another Ch, the Walker family and Starlenga All About Me. Salsina Secret Love at Avonfair, owned by Michelle Mitchell and her husband Dougie along with Michelle’s mother and she won Post Grad. Puppy went to Avonfair A Million Lovesong at Revdvicki, although I assume she was handled by her breeder, Michelle but according to the results sheet issued by Fosse Data, she is in the owned by Rev Vikki Burrows. Santin Dream du Clos de Seawind for Charlene Turner and probably handled by Luis won Junior BOB went to the Walkers and Ch Starlenga All About Me with Avonfair A Million Lovesong at Revdvikki taking BPIB Groups were judged by Frank Kane and the Puppy Group by Albert Wight where our breed won a respectable 4 th place – well done to all concerned. Stakes were judged by Steve Hall but looking through, I could not see any breed placings.

Thanks to the judge, Simon, who sent down a copy of the catalogue for me and had to leave to catch his flight back home and subsequently missed out on some of the good celebrations for the New Champions for both the Walkers and McCarte’s winners following judging with a wonderful spread of food which I am sure those who attended really enjoyed.

Finally some sad news from Secretary of Ayrshire Collie, Morag McCarte informing us of the death of Wullie Moffat prefix ( Waronsett )  who sadly passed away this week and was a well known figure in the Collie world and a great character ,which everyone remembers. Wullie was a very active member of the Ayrshire Collie club committee as was his wife Kate before her passing. Willie was a life time honorary member of the club.  With great experience in the field of dog training and judging, Wullie will be sadly missed by all who knew him well. He had a great sense of humour,
and  was one in a million…as the song says“When will we say his like again Thanks for the memories Wullie.
