3rd June
Firstly news concerning Funeral details for Carol Morgan. It will be held Tuesday 14th June at 12.30 at Hinton Park Woodland Burial Ground, BH23 7EJ followed by a celebration of her life at the St Leonard’s Hotel, BH21 2NR. There are to be no flowers but a tribute page for any donations will be set up and details will be published on Collie Life.
Briefly, a busy weekend for many with shows in Yorkshire, Scotland and the West of England. More news concerning all shows will be published next week when I have the full results but thanks to all who have already sent to both Julie and I but time constraints and judging appointments do not allow much time. So please accept my apologies.
Ayrshire Collie, whose show was held Sunday have started a new scheme, to be known at the ACC Buddies Scheme. Their aim is to help and encourage new people into the breed and a welcome pack contains information regarding many aspects of showing, including how to fill an entry form, what class to enter plus much much more is available from Lynda Watt (Culbrae) on lemmyw@hotmail.com or by direct contact with any other ACC Committee member.
Lots of news to catch up on, also this week we have had another Ch show at Southern Counties, so going back to last week.
Over the weekend, many gathered at the lovely Dobert Chateaux, for the annual ENE exhibition and thanks so much to Odile who has the following summary of the weekend. Just a quick note to summary our ENE: The entry was 182 with our own John Catliff and co-judge Miss Anne Socolovert in charge.
CACS in males was UK CH. Beldones Tom Wood and went on BIS, RCACS was Dolce Venizia Operation Batallion born 12/02/2018. Sire : Just for today of river tweed x La dolce vita du bois des Amazones.
For the bitches CACS went to Slave to love du bois des Amazones born 12/02/2021 father is Dolce venizia operation bataillon x Mac Mackenzie du bois des Amazones. RCACS went to Rebecca blonde de la Lune Argentée born 08/062020 Father is the same as the CACS and dam is Material Girl of River Tweed. All sable collies. Funny enough; the two main bitches winners are half sisters and their father is the RCACS in males. Out of interest when husband Brian Hawkins judged in 2019, as youngsters they also won and many of the winners are related to Honky Tonk Man of River Tweed (imp Fra) who has sired UK Champions here and he is a son of Ch Samhaven Toast Marster. Thanks Odile for this information
Yorkshire CC held their Open show on Saturday with Gina Stillwell (Bellawave) judging and her choice for BD went to Aqualita It’s a Miracle, with Takhisis Lysander RBD and BPD. The Veteran winner was Brenda Cooney and Ch Jopium Stole My Heart at Lingwell.
Bitches were headed by a blue, precocious puppy, Wicani Blue Myrabella with Aldreen Illusion In Blue for Didek in reserve. BVB was Imaginist Waxing Lyrical who then went on to take BVIS from Jill Oliver. Angela’s blue puppy took not only BB, BPB, BPIS and BIS…………..what a lovely start to her show career.
Sheila Gay judged the SAC classes and found her winners in: Constella Hazy Cosmic Jive; Stormsett Serendipity and Aqualita It’s a Miracle. Smoothes were judged by Miss L Williams and her BOB was Gb/Port Ch Winter Is Coming to Tentola who was also RBIS. Reserve BPIS was another Smooth as was the RBVIS.
A new “Junior Handler” was also seen on show today, and that was Isobelle, daughter of Derek & Hazel Allsopp who handled their tricolour with confidence and this was captured on video, so something both Derek & Hazel will look back on in the future.
Next day was Ayrshire Collie with Audrey Sinclair centre stage and Kate Hollinshead who had accepted for the SAC classes. BPD went to Wilma Brodie and Shanaburn Country Road, BD to Corisian Parisian Magic and RBD to Thistlewing Smoky Quartz whilst the mixed Veteran class only had the ladies present. BB was another blue merle puppy, following on from her recent wins; Starlenga Nina Simone took BPB, BB, BPIB, BIS and BPIS. RBB was Thistlewing Spell On You with Telforth Sweet Dreams to Corisian taking Veteran and BVIS. RBIS went to the dog, Corisian Parisian Magic.
Cate’s winners from the SAC classes were: Lillyway lemonade Sparkle at Nithview, Nithview Castle Black at Lynlou and Kilchrennan Keltic Briar.
Also I have received lovely news from the Nithview ladies, to confirm they took Lillyway Lemon Sparkle to Carluke Open show under Alyson Carmichael where she won BOB and then, from Cathy Proctor (Cathbri) she went PG1
At the other end of the country, on what must be the best outside show ground around, Bath held its 93rd Ch Show. With an entry, full of quality but not numbers it was my pleasure to award, the Dog CC to Ch Samhaven Ballahana Banjo, his 6th. He is sired by Ch Samhaven Sound Track out of Samhaven From The Top Draw owned by Alison Grainger and bred by Liam Kelly. Winning Limit and the RDCC was another relative, Brilyn Born To Run For Glenbowdene owned by Sheila Telford and bred by Sue Hawkins. He is sired by Samhaven Name That Tune for Breckamore (a full brother to Sound Track) out of a bitch I had previously awarded a RCC to, Brilyn Glory Days. BPD went to Kourika You’ll Do For Me whilst making a long journey Stacy Steven with the effervescent Cariadhaf Crazy Dream won Veteran.
In bitches, it was a 3rd and crowning CC (STKC) for Robin Blaikie and his sable lady, Kourika Kover Girl. She took her 1st from Kay Hateley at MCC, a 2nd from Sandra Wigglesworth and today her crown. Sired by Ch Willowdene Double Or Quits at Wassail, out of Geosamka Simply Has To Be at Kourika. This now gives Robin the rare accolade of breeding Champions in all three colours.
Standing 2nd in Open and taking the RBCC was the newly crowned, Ch Tiganlea Too Good to Be True. Sired by Ch Tiganlea Too Good To Be Forgotten out of Hazelnut Des Vergers de Iacchos.
Veteran was won by the very sprightly Ch Cariadhaf Candy Kisses, a blue, owned and bred by Margaret Harrison and she was born October 2012. Sired by Ch Ladnar Kingfisher out of Elshajo Little Miss Moonshine.
In the challenge, BOB went to Alison and her Ch boy, BOS to Robin, who then won BPIB with his tri boy, a son of the CC winning bitch. BVIB and shortlisted in the Group were Margaret and Capri.
Shelley Skinner had a good day, as both of her Veterans were placed in their respective classes, but, later in the day she won, and qualified for 2023, one of the Adult Handling Semi Finals (46-60 years young category) with her beloved Alfie, Nikal Its Gud To Be Black VW.
