Breed Notes

Another busy weekend for many, not everyone attended both shows and the varied results follow:
Firstly, at Malvern, where I was fortunate to be judging Welsh Corgi Pembroke’s in an adjacent ring to Rough Collies and it was difficult not to have a quick peek at the proceedings. Oswestry based judge; Sue-Hewart Chambers was officiating on only her 2nd appointment for our breed. Her first was at Bournemouth 2017. Taking his 1st CC, this time from Limit, was the Blue Merle, brother to Freddie, known at home as Zorro but officially Ingledene Fantasy of Blu owned and bred by Val & John Geddes. (Int Ch One Extraordinary Blu di Cambiano ex Ch Ingledene Spirit of Ecstasy – born 14th Sept 2018). Thanks Val for letting me know of this lovely win.

Standing alone in Open Dog was Astromelias Ulises via Capriora owned by Pat Corben. Born in in Feb 2018 in Spain, he is bred by Ms A Reuz. Sired by Astromelias Poncho out of Astromelias A Star Is Born, not only did he win this class but took home the RDCC.

Other class winners were: Wisewyn All The Time In The World – (MP for Miss C Moore); Luminous Moon – (Puppy for Dee Vogan). Jan Milligan and Alfsden He Lives in You won Junior; Gwen Beadon had the start of an interesting day as she won Graduate with her Marvalan Spirit of Rock Imp Pol;

Eileen Pullin took Post Grad with Barrenclough Diamond Dawn at Myjacks with Valerie winning Veteran with Ch Ingledene Spirit of Legend.

Bitches were headed by Gwen, handling for Maxine Mellish, whose knee had given out at the previous show and took over with Demelewis Double Dare.  Taking both Limit and Open classes. Asia, as she is known at home, is a blue, homebred in January 2018 and sired by Corydon Catchmydrift out of Demelewis Dare To Tell. Interesting fact, some years back, Gwen was roped in to handle, at this same show, another blue, Saganan Lady True Blue, who also annexed the CC but lost out to the eventual BOB winner, One Extraordinary Blu di Cambiano who won his first UK CC from Andrew Brace. Perhaps  3 Cos is a lucky show for blue merles!

Winning another RCC was the well known Ch Tiganlea Too Good To Be True owned by Caroline and John Tipper. Other class winners were:  Serenlas Pumpkin Spice for Stefani Flower (MP); Mejola Main Event for Jo White (P); Sue Hawkins won Junior with Breckamore Welsh Honey for Brilyn; Lynda Boyle won Graduate with Barrenclough Touch of Silk. John & Caroline won PG with Tiganlea Twinkling Star and Lynda Boyle won Veteran with Monsolana Madam Blues Over Barrenclough.

In the final challenge, Val took BoB and was shortlisted by Group Judge, Tan Nagreecha, who also judged the puppy group where Stefani and her sable baby were also shortlisted.

Now to London Collie, held at their usual venue, with Judges, Weil Smeijsters Timeless Twilight) and Jane Margetts (Collingvale).

Weil, a very popular judge, especially at Club shows, last judged LCC in 2015 (bitches) but today was officiating over the dogs and found his CC winner in the Blue, Ch Oakland’s Blue Style du Clos de Sea-wind for Zolkhan and Michelle McCann, winning his 4th CC. Born and bred in France, Ollie is sired by Hot Chocolate du Clos de Sea-Wind out of I Have A blue Dream du Clos de Sea-Wind. Taking the RDCC from Limit was Paulara Nowhere Man, a tricolour, by Monsolana Bounty Taste for Aaronwell out of Camanna Cocomotion owned by Charlene Turner, and this is his first major win here in the UK.  Best Puppy dog was Robin and his tri boy, Kourika You’ll Do For Me and winning Veteran, the effervescent, Int Ch/UK Ch Jugband Blues du Clos de Sea-wind via Aaronwell owned by John Congdon

Jane Margetts, who last judged at CCW in 2018, had the pleasure of making up another new Champion for our breed. This is, now, to be known as Ch Artzaiak Selina de Salsina (Imp Sp), who actually won her 1st CC here at LCC last year from Jean Catliff. Her 2nd CC came from Stephen Clark who judged at L&P in the same year. Keira as she is known at home is sired by Stonehaven Pride Golden Touch at Salsina out of Artzaiak So Charming and celebrates a birthday later this month. She is owned by Carl and Jane Llewellyn and thanks to Jayne who let me know that she was accompanied by her grandson Kayden as her co exhibitor, Chris Collins fell ill and was unable to travel but is elated with her day, repeating her BIS success a year later!

A lovely message from Norma Larkin confirmed her RBCC win, from Graduate with Rahlissa Toffee Cake for Denora. Bred by Val Tame, who was there to see her win, she is sired by Ch Born To Be Your Quite Famous Lynmead (Imp Hun) out of Riverside Song Extra Sweet at Rahlissa and she was born October 2020. Winning BPB was Shining Star du Clos de Sea-Wind at Gataj for Melissa Lockyer, but I as I understood Melissa was not there, I do not know who handled on the day. BVB was a lovely win for Sophie Wray-Ramsden with Beldones Duchesse of Dreams JW.

Many thanks to Julie Sewell, Show Secretary for LCC who confirmed the result of BOB to Jayne and her newly crowned Ch, RBOB to Norma and her RCC bitch but the referee was needed for Best Puppy which went to Robin and the tricolour. BIS, judged by Penny Sewell was the sable bitch, RBIS and BOSIS to the smooth, Breckamore Peaky Blinder at Lyndaryn and the Smooth, Wynele Obsession won BPIS but BVIS went to the Rough boy of John Congdon.
An apology to Brenda Welsh and her Thistlewing Smokey Quartz, who I left out of the list of winners at the recent ACC Open show where he won Best Puppy Dog and to add to her Thistlewing family wins, at the recent Dundee Canine Club, T. Smokey Quartz and Thistlewing Spell On You won their classes, along with Ingledene Sno Dream at Thistlewing, under Stacy Steven who was making her judging debut.

Now a few items to catch up on. As promised, some more Agility news, firstly from Jane Spendelow and Uffspring Unmistakable, known as Henry. Last week he won his way out of Grade 5 and the following day gained the final of 400 points to claim his Agility Warrant. I also understand he is top of the League in the Rough & Smooth Training Association table as well. Now more news of the sable bitch, loved by Stacy Steven and known to many as Brookie  Zoom Zoom due to the speed she approaches many of her challenges, be it in the show ring or the Agility Ring.  Brook, she has just a few days left to claim her Agility points for her AW. She won the Grade 1 jumping with a clear round and then came a respectable 4th in a class of 29 for agility grades 1 + 2 together by claiming another clear. In a previous round, although she gained a 2nd place but added a time fault.

News also in from Dr Lynda Boyle who reports a win at Great Harwood Agricultural Show for Barrenclough Heart of Gold JW. Known as Liam, he was handled by Jan Williams in the breed challenge and then under Paul Routledge brought home G2.

Finally a few words to recall a lovely tricolour boy, Ch Erjon Ebony Joker, who was given sleep recently at the age of just 12, never having had a serious illness beforehand.  The Erjon household is rather empty without Taylor. He was the first collie that Josh Blackburn had the pleasure of winning CC’s with and making up. Although he hated the indoor shows, and even took his handler out of the hall on one occasion, he won his 1st CC at Bath in 2014, from Jan Underdown on her first appointment, a 2nd from Chris Casling at Leeds and his crown at Border Union from Iris Cummings in 2015. Sired byErjon Elijah Pepper out of Erjon Edged In Gold, perhaps as a sire his contribution to Erjon and other kennels will be his connection. Many of the winners he sired have won well, including CC wins for the late Camanna Colour Me Perfect, Jopium Fascinator, and other winning offspring also include Erjon Exclusively Special, Erjon Euraser and Camanna Chasingclouds Over Mejola just to mention a few.
