Breed Notes

8th July 2022

Peter Savage telephoned with his good news that Savataurus’s Only The Lonely, a tricolour born in March 2009 has now become an Irish Champion. Sired by Wicani What’s New Pussycat out of Gedespa Back For Good at Savataurus (A daughter of Ch Chrisarion Collier). This was achieved at the Killkenny show, held in Ireland, same day at Blackpool. The judge was Guy Jeavons from Canada and he had quite a good entry. Peter actually asks if at the age of now 13, is he the oldest rough to gain his Irish title? Do let him know. Although Peter’s boy won the Green Star, BOB went to Tom Wall
and his blue bitch, Daliyhaa Priscilla n Blue. RGSB Was Evalane Loveable Lockdown Lottie, whilst Karen McDevitt annexed the RGSD with her Denfris Discovery for Caronlea.

Now to Windsor, one of my favourite shows and with a new show layout, which I think was appreciated by many, Roughs followed Smooths with one of our more established Judges, Caz Waterhouse (Lynmead) in charge. Caz,last judged at London Collie in 2019 but hard to believe this was her first all-breed Ch appointment having judged numerous single sexes at many club shows both at home and abroad.

It was a real celebration day for those living north of the border in Scotland, as all but one of the major awards went there, so do let me explain more. Dog CC went to Ollie, Ch Oakland’s Blue Style du Clos De Sea-Wind at Zolkhan, his 5 th CC having already won both a CC and a RCC win recently. He is owned by Michelle McCann, bred in France and sired by Hot Chocolate du Clos de Sea-Wind out of I Have a Dream Blue de Clos de Sea-Wind. He won Open and standing 2 nd to him was another raider from Scotland, Roughrigg Rag n Bone Man owned and bred by Morag & Jim McCarte, who collected yet another RCC to to the one he had last week. Other class winners were: Gataj Struck By Lightning, who gained his 3 rd CC at the last show and he won Limit handled by Graham in the challenge. PG went to Trenley Toreador for Karen Wallis and Terri Maxwell. Sired by Born To Be Born To Be Quite Famous Lynmead ex Trenley Tansin, who took BPIB here at Windsor in 2015.

Melissa was alone in Yearling with Gataj Out of The Woods and Chantal and Andre Scott, who got stuck in a traffic jam on the “dreaded M25” on the way back home confirmed their good day started with a win in Junior for their tricolour, Sherlock Holmes of Moon River for Chantique whilst puppy went to another Scot (but presently residing in England) Robin Blaikie and his very well known Kourika You’ll Do For Me who I think ends his nearly un-beaten puppy career at this show. There were no MP entered, neither and no males in the mixed Veteran class which started the day off. There was a Good Citizens, dog or bitch class with two entries and this was won by Shirley Daley and her Tremaro Tainted Love at Rahlissa.

Veteran, the first class of the day was headed by Jane Margetts and her Collingvale Chardonnay (Danfrebek Soul Dust at Rantara ex Lynmead Look Gracefully over Collingvale) and she was born in 2013. A nice message from Jane, who has had issues with her own “Movement” to say that she did stay for the Veteran Group under Irene McManus but did not feature, Jane would like to thank all who helped her move and show and stayed with her during the day. Hannah & Simon Walder had the pleasure of winning MP with their latest import, Tamira’s Miracles Cornflake Girl for Hanvale (Imp Hungary) and known at home as Tori. Sired by Born To Be Your Tamira’s Talisman out of Tamira’s Miracles Because I Love You. Her attitude of a well assured puppy who took all in her stride on the day must have pleased all concerned. Puppy went to the Walker family, from Scotland with Starlenga Nina Simone. Sired by Starlenga All That Jazz from Aaronwell, who is a son of Ch Jugband Blues du Clos De Sea-Wind via Aaronwell (Imp Fra) out of Beldones Baby Think Twice at Starlenga, who is a daughter of the late Ch Beldones Black Illusion. I understand that she was handled by Margo Walker and moved by Michelle Mitchell.

Chantal and Andre won Junior with Chantique Strawberry Moon, a daughter of Chantique Déjà Vu. Norma Larkin won Yearling with her Rahlissa Coffee Cake for Denora (Born To Be Quite Famous Lynmead ex Riverside Song Xtra Sweet at Rahlissa). Chantal and Andre continued their day by winning PG with Chantique Déjà Vu. Sired by Mr Burberry of Lowlands Green Valley for Chantique out of Chantique Fairy Dust. If memory serves me well, she too annexed the RBCC recently at WECS.

Winning Limit was Gerian Sunlite for Gee McEntee but I think, handled in the challenge by Doreen Clarke. Born December 2019 she is sired by Ch Magical Moon of Lowlands Green Valley for Chantique out of Gerian Sunheaven.
Open went to the Walkers with their dual CC winning Chantique Cinderella at Starlenga (Chantique Star Dust ex Scarlett Johansson of Moon River for Chantique (Imp FRA) thus giving the small Chantique kennel, for the day, a Reserve CC, 4 x 1 st prize winners, a 2 nd and a 3 rd , but not all were owned by Andre and Chantal – well done. Bitch CC was awarded to the puppy, Nina Simone, her 2 nd with Chantique Déjà Vu taking home another RCC to add to her collection. BPB was automatically the blue bitch, as was the Veteran bitch winner, Collingvale Chardonnay.

For the challenge for BOB, Caz sent forward, to both the Adult and Puppy groups, Starlenga Nina Simone. However, when it came to the Groups, Nina was allowed to do a “Lap of Honour” as her connections felt that as she was still a puppy (11.5 months old) , that she had a long enough day and had permission to do so. Although she is shown on the video, (provided by Our Dogs) she was handled by Michelle Mitchell and did appear a little un-settled and perhaps missed her normal handler in Louise. Well done to all concerned with this as they took into consideration the health and welfare of their charge before leaving on their long journey back to Scotland. This must have been a great disappointment to our breed judge, Caz.
