Breed Notes
1st July 2022

Firstly many will know of Alfie, owned by Shelley Skinner and sadly, following a short sudden illness, the brave but sad decision to give him sleep was taken. Known officially as Nikal It’s Gud To Be Black, he was the first Rough Collie to hold a Veteran Warrant, which he easily gained before the lockdown. Sired by the import, Jambarlas Sent with Luv to Myriehewe (Imp Aus) out of Amalie She's No Angel at Nikal he was born in June 2011. He also gained his KCSB No, a fact Shelley, his owner was very proud of. Although he often won well in breed classes, it was as a Veteran that he came to the fore and was often in the challenge at many of the shows. Although not an official KC Champion, during the “Covid lockdown” period I understand he gained many great wins accumulating in numerous “on-Line Virtual” challenge wins but he will always be a Champion to Shelley, who I know will be devastated at the loss as she was present when he came into the world and held him tightly when he left. He was a tricolour and a gentleman and to Shelley, we understand your feelings.

A good educational day was had at Corydon, where the EACA put on and held a BAD/MCE day along with a Group Mentoring Session which was extremely well attended and over-subscribed to. Thanks to all at Corydon for this, another great milestone in the education of newer judges.

For those who may need to contact Fern Sargeant (Coarhabeg), would you all please note a change, with immediate effect to the new e mail address of Fern.Sargeant@gmail.com

Now to Blackpool, where it was mainly dry but very windy, here at only her 2nd appointment for the breed and a first at a general championship show, Sophie Wray-Ramsden was centre stage. Her first appointment was back in 2019 at Collie Club of Wales, where she only judged bitches, so today was her first time for dogs and she had the pleasure of making up another new Champion for our breed. A message from Melissa, who had to stay home as she was still on “bottle feeding duties” for her latest litter confirmed that Storm, aka Gataj Struck By Lightning who was handled by husband Graham Lockyer (along with daughter Alicia) . I think, although he is not the first Champion to reside at Gataj, he is the first homebred by Graham and Melissa. Sired by Lynmack Thunderstruck out of Gataj Girl’s Best Friend and is a sable. His 1st CC came at British in March from Grenville Francis followed by a 2nd at the recent SKC where Cath Moffatt, (Kylecar) judged and Storm won Limit Dog. Well done to Graham.

Winning Open was Roughrigg Rag’n’Bone Man, who is also on 2 CC’s for Morag & Jim McCarte from Scotland. (Lynmack Walk All Over You at Roughrigg ex Beldones Fun n Games at Roughrigg) and he took back another RCC to add to his collection.

Rannaleroch Perfect Storm owned by Jeremy Barron and Carron Jenkins stood alone in MP and was joined in the challenge for BPD by Wilma Brodie and her Shanaburn Country Road but I do not know who won the award.

Best Veteran Dog was Lenosann Midnight Rascal for Dee & Samantha Vogan (Kourika Kosmic Kowboy ex Lanlin Wolves Wonder and was born March 2013.

Now to the ladies, and to the complete surprise of handler and co-owner, Louise Walker, this award went to the Walker family and their blue merle puppy, Starlenga Nina Simone who won Puppy. Sired by Starlenga All That Jazz for Aaronwell out of Beldones Baby Think Twice at Starlenga. She already has a RCC and many BPIB and a general open show BIS to her credit and will certainly celebrate her birthday on 10th July shortly.

Taking the RBCC from the only entry in Open, was Beldones Looks Like Fun, who coincidently won her 1st CC also at British earlier this year from Tracey Jackson, Sired by the late Ch Beldones Black Illusion out of Ch Beldones Fit For Fun and is owned and bred by Brian and Odile.

MP went to the single entry of Andre & Chantal Scott with Torrino Renesmee for Chantique (Imp Italy). Born in Oct 2021 her sire is Pow Wow du Clos de Sea-Wind out of Torrino I Am Bella and bred by Alessandria Montini.
Veteran was a win, again alone, for Dr Lynda Boyle with her Monsolana Butterfly Blue Over Barrenclough (Imp Russia) JW ShCm. Born February 2014 her sire is Ch Monsolana Velvet Blue For Aaronwell (Imp Rus) out of Monsolana Mamma Mia but in the challenge lost out to the dog

Sophie’s choice for BOB went to Graham and Storm for BOB. Nina Simone was automatically BPB and BPIB along with the CC. Blackpool also schedule a Junior Group, and think was to be judged by Jill Peak. The two contenders for this were Emma & Jo Brooker and their sable Corisian Parisian Magic and Julie Growcott with Lillyway Lemon Breeze with the nod going to dog.

Group judges were Keith Nathan for the adults and Paul Wilkinson for puppies and Veterans were Martin Phillips
