Breed Notes

15th July 2022

Before we report on the  winners at the recent Ch and Open Shows, some sad news from Secretary, Morag McCarte concerning one of Ayrshire Collie’s Honorary Life Members. Forwarded here by John Robinson, a close friend of the late Gavin Duncan who held the Nirvag affix. He was awarded HLM for his dedicated work, always behind the scenes at many of the ACC shows. His funeral will be held Tuesday 19th July at the Holmford Bridge Crematorium Dreghorn, Irvine, Ayrshire, Ka11 4EF at 12.30. With Donations going to the Stroke Unit, Kilmarnock. After the service where everyone is welcome there will be a gathering at Park Hotel, Kilmarnock.
If you are/were  thinking of attending the forthcoming Bournemouth Ch show and staying over, why not attend the BCA un-benched Open show, held the day before their Ch show on the same site of Pikes Farm, Organford Lane, Organford, Poole BH16 6ES. On line entries close on 25th July and for Collies Rough the judge elect is Mr. I Lewis (Shemella Border Collies) with 3 mixed classes, Junior, Post Grad and Open. Pastoral Group judge is Russell Jones, Quemerford.
Now to some show news, a message from Stefani Flower and her 8 month puppy, Serenlas Pumpkin Spice, known as Saffi. They went to Vale of Clwyd Open show, which meant an early start and a three hour drive away. They came back home (eventually) with a JW Point, BPIB and BOB. Pastoral G3 and Pastoral Puppy G1, but no more!!!! The judge involved was Mr. D Bowen (Larath)
Friday saw East of England Ch show taking place with a replacement judge of Jim Peach (Rosdyke) who took over from the nominated judge, Jan Starkey (Jaystar) whose second appointment it would have been, having last judged the breed at Windsor in 2011
Jim last judged at NWPDS in 2019. It is always difficult to take over someone else’s entry but found his winners all with family connections as the CC winners were Son and Mother and the RCC winners were also Mother and Son.
Dog CC, his 4th was the tricolour, Ch Ladnar Mustriharder (a son of Piaf, Int Ch Extraordinary Blu di Cambiano out of Ladnar Inkheart) He actually gained his 1st CC here at East of England in 2021. He is owned and bred by Dave & Sue Randall who let me know of their good day out, having only just returned from holiday in Malta.
Taking the Reserve CC, to him, was the blue merle, Tiganlea Task Master at Trenic for John & Caroline Tipper who kindly phoned through the results,  won Limit and adds this to his previous CC & Rcc wins. He is sired by Ch Tiganlea Tone Down out of Tiganlea Twinkling Star.
Other class winners included Thistlewing Smokey Quarts, for Brenda Welsh; Alfsden He Lives In You for Jan Milligan; Marvalan Spirit of Rock for Gwen Beadon, Camanna Careerchanging for Maqueeba and Tina May. Veteran went to another tricolour, Aniesh Touch of Black and Jan Scott. Special Beginners (Dog) was won by Welanga Winter Carols via Capriora owned by Pat Corben and her partner.
In bitches, the first class (MP) went to Tamira’s Miracles Cornflake Girl for Hanvale (Imp Rom) for Hannah & Simon Walder. There were no puppy bitches entered and Junior was won by Jane Spendelow and her Riverside Song Narayana at Uffspring. Aqualita Dreams Come True stood alone in Yearling for Miss C Moore and Brenda Welsh won PG with Thistlewing Spell On You. Sophie Wray-Ramsden was so busy between rings showing her other breeds, Dad; Geoff Wray piloted her Takhisis Lady of Illusions to win Limit for her.  John & Caroline won Open with Tiganlea Twinkling Star and Veteran was a win for the dam of the dog CC winner, Ladnar Inkheart. Gill Whitaker won Spl Beginners with Siluto Misterous Girl.
The bitch CC was a 3rd and crowing CC for Eve, now to be known as Ch Ladnar Inkheart JW. Her previous CC wins were in 2016 at London & Provincial from Jane Gay (Yagane) and more recently at Southern Counties from Dr A Paloheimo Segersven (Finland).
Taking the RBCC was Tiganlea Twinkling Star, who is the dam of the RCC dog, Tiganlea Task Master and she adds this RCC to one acquired last year.
Best Puppy was automatically, Simon & Hannah’s MP, with another automatic award on BVB going to Eve.
So, Dave and Sue challenged each other for BOB with the nod going to the newly crowned bitch who also took BVIB and with a very early finish, the Pastoral Group, judged by Tom Johnston was judged early but although she stayed was not placed.
Simon and Hannah took BPIB, and Best Special Beginners, was Welanga Winter Carols via Capriora.
Sunday saw the Collie Association hold 2 Open shows at Baginton Village Hall, with classes for both Roughs and Smooths. The first show, starting at 9.30am was judged by Liam Kelly (Ballahanna) and the second, following completion of the first to be judged by Michelle Mitchell (Avonfair) with matching entries of approx 40 roughs and 14 smooths at each show. So who would be a Secretary? Poor Sheila Telford had to replace both of the judges for Smooths at very short notice as those appointed had either contracted the dreaded “Covid” or had hospitalization due to injury. Clare Norman judged at Show 2 in place of Denise Rowan and a late replacement of Sandra Wigglesworth in place of Christina Bailey was at show 1. It was rather warm at the venue but all seemed to cope well with refreshments and cream teas being provided for all by the Committee, although somewhat short staffed a great time was had by all
Taking BIS at Show 1, judged by Richard Kinsey (Kitarn) was the Smooth, Ch/Multi Ch Winter Is Coming to Tentola, owned jointly by Nick & Anne Smith but handled on the day by daughter Georgina. BOB rough, from Liam Kelly was Ch Beldones La Vita Bella for Hanvale JW, owned by Hannah & Simon Walder. Best dog was Chelborn Story Teller, with Beldones Toucher du Bois in Reserve. Best Veteran dog went to Ch Jopium Stole My Heart at Lingwell for Brenda Cooney, whilst RBB went to Sue Beare and her Jemspark Maid In Secret. There were no male pups on show but BPIB fell to Brian & Odile with Beldones Sound Gold. Other class winners included Corisian Parisian Magic who won Puppy & Junior for the Brooker family; Lillyway Landwind who won PG for Linda Gautrey and Jean Kenny piloted her Lanlin Benji at Leesaund to take a class.
In bitches, other than those mentioned above, class winners included Telforth Sweet Dreams for Corisian, who won Veteran; Avonfair A Million Love Song at Revdvikki, Lillyway Lemon Breeze and Julie Growcott won Junior, Novice was Tiganlea Hoity Toity at Revdvikki for Vikki Burrows, Graduate was Norma Larkin and Rahlissa Toffee Cake for Denora whilst Chantique Ooh La La won limit for Chantelle and Andre Scott.  BPB went to Beldones Sound Gold and BVIS to Brenda and her Ch boy.
At show 2, which had basically the same entry as Show1, gave Michelle Mitchell her choice of winners in; Chantique Déjà vu who took BB & BOB for Andre and Chantal over Ch Jopium Stole My Heart over Lingwell who was also BD & BVIB and Reserve BOB.
Dog class results differed slightly with the following all winning again.  Corsican Parisian Magic,  Beldones Toucher du Bois, Lillyway Landwind, Lanlin Benji at Leesaund and Chelborn Story Teller who ended as RBD.
Veteran Bitch went to  Telforth Sweet Dreams at Corisian, Simon and Hannah won puppy with Tamira’s Miracles Cornflake Girl for Hanvale (Imp Hun); Beldones Sound Gold was BPB and BPIB, Other class winners were: Lillyway Lemon Breeze, Rahlissa Coffee Cake for Denora, Chantique Ooh La La won PG with Chantique Déjà vu winning Limit and Open to Beldones Looks Like Fun. BIS at this show was Anne French (Breckamore) and her eventual winners were: the smooth, judged by Clare Norman, Brackenhaye Heartbreaker at Shandlemain owned by Cathy Howard, RBIS to another Smooth, Ch/Multi Ch Winter us coming to Tentola for Nick & Anne Smith, BPIS to Brian and Odile with Beldones Sound Gold, and BVIS to Brenda and Ch Jopium Stole My Heart at Lingwell.
Many apologies if I have not mentioned you, or got my information wrong, reporting on Sunday shows is always an issue especially with OD deadlines to meet.
