Breed Notes
9th December 2022

The last Club Open show for 2022 was British Collie, held at their usual venue at Overseal Village Hall, Derbyshire and attracted a small entry of 38 roughs, but, looking through the catalogue pages this was reduced by 3 NFC entries for Judge Michelle Davies (Rosschell). Due to absentees, there were actually just 14 dogs and 14 bitches on parade.
I understand quite a festive day was had as on offer for some winners were miniature bottles of whisky and mince pies along with some wonderful rosettes.

The first class was a mixed Veteran with Lynda Boyle winning with her Monsolana Madam Blues Over Barrenclough. Taking 3rd was Brenda Cooney and Ch Jopium Stole My Heart at Lingwell and as he had not been beaten by another male, was therefore eligible to compete in the line-up for Best Dog
Both MP boys were absent and the first class winner on the day was Jayne & Carl Llewellyn from Merthyr Tydfil with Avonfair Spellbound with Salsina. Takhisis Lysander won Junior for Liz Chaplin. Ladnar Dreamchaser handled by Sue Howard and owned by her with Val Newton and Ann Patterson won Graduate. PG went to Jayne & Carl with Red Hot Chilli Pepper du Clos de Seawind and Limit was won by Julie Edwards with Starlenga Harry Potter. There were no Open entries. Best dog went to Julie Edwards with Sue Howard taking RBD with Ladnar Dreamchaser

Bitches had Tina May and her Maqueeba Magical Kisses winning and another win for Jayne, in Puppy with Avonfair Secret Love Letter to Salsina winning.  Denis and Mary Beardsworth won Junior and Novice with Maysinder Sapphire Reign with Denis handling as Mary has not yet fully recovered for recent surgery. A sister to the MP winner, Maqueeba Magical Blessing won Maiden for Tina May.
Julie Growcott won Graduate with her tri, Lillyway Lemon Breeze;  Uffspring Ultravox now has her own kennel name of Coloratura added by owner Liz Rose and she won PG. Limit went Julie Edwards and Elshajo Adored and Open went to Salsina Share The Love for Jayne & Carl.
Best Bitch was the Open winner, Salsina Share The Love with Lillyway Lemon Breeze taking RBB. Avonfair Secret Love Letter to Salsina was BPB and a lovely message from Jayne saying she really enjoyed the day and came with with some lovely rosettes. Thanks for letting me know

The final awards, agreed by both judges went as follows:  BIS to the Rough Bitch, RBIS to the smooth, judged by Jan Milligan. BPIS was also a smooth with Jayne & Carl taking RBPIS with the rough puppy. Best Veteran in show was also a smooth, Marianne Benton’s Ch Oakestelle Venus de Milo beating Lynda Boyle who won RBVIS with her blue.

Although we as Rough Collies are not yet classed as a KC Vulnerable Breed, I understand that the Smooth Collie is. Thanks to Jacky Cutler (Lankeela) she has let me know that the Lancashire Heeler Association have been in contact with the KC concerning holding an Open Show for all Vulnerable Native Breeds. The proposed date will be Sunday 18th June at the KC Building. Stoneleigh. Jacky will be in contact with all relevant clubs with more information.

Next week will be the last Ch show for 2023, LKA at the NEC. As many are aware this will be the last time at this venue as the show next year will be held at Stafford and pending the results a full review of 2022 will follow.
