Breed Notes

Yet another busy weekend with two shows, both with CC’s but at least they were held at the same venue, on the same day! Welsh Kennel Club, in its usual venue, on the Royal Welsh Showground had a different layout to previous years. I understand many appreciated the changes but time will tell. The second show was for Collie Club of Wales under guidance of Secretary, Christine (Triburle) Collins and this was run with WKC in the next ring, so exhibitors did not have far to travel and CCW were very accommodating and waited for any exhibitor who may have been in the other ring.
Both shows had received similar entries, varying by just a few exhibitors at each show. WKC had another first-time judge, Karen Gilliland, based in Northern Ireland was centre stage for a 9.30 start inside one of the halls and CCW had 2 judges, Jim McCarte (Roughrigg) and Weil Smeijsters (Timeless Twilight with John Ritchie (Dykebar) acting as referee and BIS judge.
At WKC, Karen’s choice for the Dog CC, his 2nd, was non other than the Crufts winner, Charlene Turner’s Chantique Magical Mystery, handled by Luis. Let me refresh you with his breeding, Ch Magical Moon of Lowlands Green River for Chantique out of Chantique Bewitched and as his breeding suggests, bred by Chantal and Andre Scott, who were also present to see this win from the well filled (8) Open class. Standing second and winning another RCC was Melissa Lockyear and Ch Gataj Struck By Lightning (Lynmack Thunderstruck ex Gataj Girl’s Best Friend).
Other class winners included: Lynda Boyle with Barrenclough Moonglow JW ShCm (Veteran); Vanessa Cronk with Chelborn Gambling List (MP); Miss C Moore and Wisewyn All The Time In The World (Imp Pol): Corisian Parisian Magic won Junior for Jo Brooker and family. Lynda won again with Monsolana Aspire To Inspire Over Barrenclough in Graduate. Pat Corben won PG with Welanga Winter Carols via Capriora and Colin & Ann Jones took Limit with Brooklynson Black Diamond with Dancol.
Bitches were headed by Simon & Hannah Walder and Ch Beldones La Vita Bella for Hanvale, winning her 6th CC (her breeding was given last week) and she won Open. Taking home the RBCC after a few months away from the ring was Margaret & Rob Shipp’s, Gillyflower Della Buca Delle Fate (Imp Ita). Her breeding is as follows: It Ch More and More Della Buca Delle Fate ex Rather Be Della Buca Delle Fate and she was born in Italy in Jan 2017 being bred by Lisa Ricciardi and thank you to Margaret for letting me know of this nice win.
Ann Cook won Veteran with her Aniesh Forever Blue with Whatacoo; Vanessa won MP with the sister to the MPD, Chelborn Gambler’s Wish. Melissa won Junior with Shining Star Du Clos de Sea-Wind at Gataj and Luis took Charlene Turner’s Paulara Keep The Faith in to win Novice. Gataj Honey Bee won Graduate whilst PG went to Michelle Mitchell handling their Salsina Secret Love Song at Avonfair. John & Caroline won Limit with Tiganlea Twinkling Star.
In the final challenge, Karen decided on Hannah & Simons Ch sable for BOB, BPIB went to Vanessa and her bitch puppy and BVIB to Ann Cook and her blue. I saw the video for the Pastoral Group, judged by Jean Lawless and although she put up a good show, the collie was not short-listed. I do not know if either the puppy or the veteran stayed.
CCW had made a great effort in decorating their ring along with all the flowers provided by them and very nearly lost their President, Noel Collins as he was beautifully camouflaged with a “wondrous” floral shirt. Helped by Marina, Margaret, stewards Abby and Michelle, the show commenced. The Tables were loaded, not only with the spectacular “Dragons” and Trophies including Griffiths statues, donated by Phyllis Parry for BIS and BPIS, but heaving with cake, goodies and Welsh Cakes, provided by Christine, Hannah and other. All of these goodies were on offer to all, free of charge and much appreciated by the many.
Jim McCarte was judging the males; this was his 2nd appointment for the breed, having awarded his first set of CC’s here at WKC back in 2019. His choice for the Dog CC, his first, was the blue merle, Kourika King Pin, handled in the challenge by Jo Brooker for Robin Blaikie who was also in the challenge with his Kourika You’ll Do For Me. This blue has been knocking at the door for a while, sired by Moondance de Cabrenysset for Brihow out of Ch Kourika Karrizma and was born in November 2019. It must have been pleasing for Marina McLaughlin, who had been stewarding as she owns his sire.  Winning the RDCC, this time from Mid Limit, was the CC winner from WKC, Chantique Magical Mystery.  Taking Veteran was Pick Pocket from Samhaven, but he did not get BVD, as Jive, although 3rd in Open, annexed this for John Congdon.
Jayne Llewellyn did not know when she won the MPD class and BPD, with Avonfair Spellbound with Salsina, how much her and Carl’s breeding would have influence on the day. More later. Yearling dog went to Melissa and Gataj Out of The Woods, Jackie Dix took Graduate with Barrenclough Diamond Skies, and Sheila Telford won Limit with her Brilyn Born To Run for Glenbowdene. All class winners were recipients of miniature whisky bottles, whilst the CC winner received a full bottle and the RDCC and Best Puppy Dog won a Bottle of Wine each, all donated by the judge, Jim.
Bitches followed with Weil Smeijsters judging. He is a frequent visitor to the UK, not only to judge, but his last appointment was a London Collie, where he judged males earlier in the year.
A delighted but stressed Louise Walker won the BCC with her tricolour from the Graduate class, LouLou as she is known at home but officially she is Starlenga All About Me and  is homebred by the Walkers, sired by Ch Jugband Blues de Close de Sea-Wind via Aaronwell out of Nelinka De Remember Our Love for Starlenga and was born in July 2019. This must be a lucky venue for her as she annexed the RBCC at the CCW Ch show earlier this year. A lovely message from Louise confirmed that she travelled down from home in Fife and met up with Michelle Mitchell and they travelled onwards. The reason for this being that mum, Margo had not been feeling 100% and that Dad; Gary had also not been well so Margo stayed home to care for both Gary and the remaining dogs. No wonder she was a little stressed but I am sure the news soon filtered back and an improvement for all followed especially when Louise got home with all her winnings!
Winning the RBCC was Julie Edwards and her Salsina Sharing Secrets, a sable bred by Jane & Carl Llewellyn, sired by Stonehaven Pride Golden Touch at Salsina out of Salsina Share A Dream and born in May 2018 and she won Limit.
Other class winners were: Avonfair Secret Love Letter to Salsina won MP. There were no puppy bitches present. Melissa won JB with Shining Star du Clos de Sea-Wind at Gataj. Paulara Keep The Faith won Yearling for Charlene and Hannah & Simon won Novice with Tamira’s Miracles Cornflake Girl for Hanvale who had also been 2nd in MP. Chantal & Andre Scott won PG with Chantique Ooh La La whilst ML went to Salsina Secret Love Song at Avonfair for Michelle Mitchell and Salsina Share The Love stood 2nd to the RBCC winner in Limit for Jayne making it a super day for her kennel. Open went to Jo Brooker and Paris Venise du Bois des Amazones for Corisian and Lynda Boyle took Veteran with Monsolana Butterfly Blue.
Now to BOB/BIS, and this was judged by John Ritchie and the final result was BIS, along with more lovely goodies fell to Louise and LouLou. RBIS to the RBCC winner of Julie Edwards. BVIS went to John Congdon and Jive whilst Jayne Llewellyn took home BPIS with her dog puppy.
