Breed Notes

Before reporting on Bournemouth Ch show, I must bring you the results of Bournemouth Open Show. Held at the same venue on the day before and a first event for the Society. A few folk travelled down early for both shows and camped overnight at the facilities offered by BCA. At which I understand a rather impromptu Piazza and Karaoke night was spent by Nick, Anne, Smith, Marianne Benton and Abby Lusty, and hosted by Steve Barrett.  At the show, it was a small entry but there was more good news for Stefani Flower to report on. Having allowed her “pride and joy” to leave home under the guidance of Abby Lusty  she annexed BPIB, BOB G4 and PG2 from judges Ian Lewis (Shemella) and group judge, Russell Jones Quemerford.
Now to the main event, where just before my own judging stint, I managed to glimpse some of the Rough Collie classes.
Darren Clarke (Peluche) was centre ring for his first set of CC’s. It was not a large entry, depleted by absentees, probably due to the extreme weather conditions and also travelling into a “Holiday Area” is always problematic with traffic issues.
17 males were entered with 4 missing. Taking his 2nd CC was Ingledene Fantasy of Blu, whose details we are all aware of. Standing 2nd in Open was Pedro, Ch Brooklynson El Dorado for Marianne Benton, Nick & Anne Smith and he won the RDCC. Not content with this nice win, Marianne piloted him to 4th place in the Denise Courtney Memorial Open Stakes judged by Richard Kinsey. There were no Veteran gentlemen present and BPD fell to Vanessa Cronk and her tri boy, Chelborn’s Gambling List.
Bitches had 22 on paper but more absentees (6). Four years from winning BPIB here, Nellie, and now Ch Saganan Blue Diamond won her 5th CC for Gwen and Cate Arrowsmith. She won from Open and standing just behind her was Hannah Walder with Ch Beldones La Vita Bella for Hanvale JW and she won the RBCC – so same results as the last show but in a different order!. Abby Lusty took BPB with Saffi and again, no Veteran ladies on show.
BOB went to Val with BPIB going to Serenlas Pumpkin Spice for Stefani, handled by Abby. I have not heard of any group placings but it was a really hot day and perhaps, although they stayed, the heat took its toll on their performances.
Sadly I end these notes on a report from Chris Slater of Collie Rescue confirming the sad death of Founder Member, Ernest Clark. Husband of Beryl. In their prime had a small kennel of collies under the Samberry affix, if memory serves me well, their blue, Pelido Blue Pavan at Samberry , won the 1st ever EACA Rough Collie of the year competition in 1990.
Ernest was also a very long standing Committee Member of Yorkshire CC and President of Frenchville DCS. To Beryl, family and friends we send condolences. His funeral will be on Friday 26th August at Barnby Moor Crematorium, Ranby, Retford DN22 8FL at 2pm

The Club has been notified today of the sad passing of Jean Armour of the  Barnmour  Affix. 
Michele Mc Cann has forwarded the following on Jean:
Mum and I knew Jean from the late 70's early 80’s, when we started Showing.  She came from Saltcoats in Ayrshire.  She was a very talented Artist, being renowned at the time for her dog paintings onto wood, and would paint your own dog onto a piece of wood cut from a tree stump.  We still have one of our very first Collie. She also made Kennel Affix plaques portraying both a Collie of the Kennel and carrying their Affix, and did this for many of the top Kennels of the day.  

Jean's love was Blue Merles and Tri colours although she did have some sables.  Her top winning dog was A Blue Merle dog, Wilmaranna Forever Blue, known as Hutch, and bred by Mrs Bunty Paterson.  He won the Res CC at LKA from Judge - Nan Kirk and was handled that day by Ian Entwistle.  Another lovely tri dog she had was her stud dog, Tanryn D'Artagnan, who produced some lovely dogs. She also bred the CC winning Tricolour for Mr and Mrs Hughes, Barnmour Starlight Express, who won Dog CC at Border Union under Celia Hall.  The last Collie I saw Jean showing was a Birkmyre sable bitch from Naomi and the late Bob McDowall.  Jean could always be seen showing her Collies at the Ayrshire and Scottish Collie Club Shows and would donate paintings as gifts for winners.  
Due to her health, Jean stopped showing rough collies and started breeding cats, moving to the Coalsnaughton area of Clackmannanshire, where she lived for the past 35 years.
