Breed Notes

Thank goodness for both Fosse Data and Social Media, as thanks to them, I now have the full results of Blackpool, where the judge was Mrs. Sue Hawkins (Brilyn)

Some of the major winners have let me know but, others, who are proud of their smaller but equally important wins, have also and thank you so much

For those without access to social media, here goes: Sue last judged the breed at Crufts in 2017 and previously at many Club & Gen Ch shows. Her entry resulted in another new Champion for the breed, in the tricolour boy, bred by Bo & Natalia Skalin known as Potup but to give him his full title, now UK Ch/Int Ch/EE/LT/BALTIC & RUSSIAN CH Skabona The Gambler at Chelborn, now owned by Vanessa Cronk. His details have been published previously and he won an Open class of 6, with 1 missing.
Taking the RCC at just his 3rd show was the recent CC winner from Paignton, Alison Grainger and Samhaven Ballahana Banjo and he won Limit, another class of 5. Bred by Liam Kelly in Northern Ireland, Liam did not know but his day was about to get better as the brother took 3rd in the same class.

Melissa Lockyer took BPD with her homebred Gataj Out of The Woods, and a lovely message from Melissa to let me know as when born, he was lifeless but she worked on him, brought him back to life, fed him every 2 hours for a couple of weeks until he was strong enough to feed from mum. When offered for sale, no one was interested so a decision was made that he should stay at Gataj. Well done to all concerned.

The junior winner stood alone in the shape of Maysinder Diamante Grezzo for the Beardsworths.
In bitches, it was a 2nd CC for Melissa and her Takhisis Hopes and Dreams with Gataj. Her first CC came from Gary Gray who judged at Bournemouth in 2019. Bred by Sophie Wray-Ramsden, she is a sable, sired by Honky Tonk Man of River Tweed (Imp Fra) out of Beldones Duchess of Dreams.

Liam Kelly won not only Limit, his KCSB and also the RCC with his sable, Samhaven Sister Sara with Ballahana. Bred by Alison Grainger and sired by Honky Tonk Man of River Tweed (as was the CC winner) out of Samhaven Zip Line
Best Puppy bitch went to Mad Maisie, Erjon Ebony Jewels, handled by Josh Blackburn and co-owned with Duna Jones and she also collected yet another BPIB award.

Junior was won the only entry, Salsina Secret Love at Avonfair, owned by Michelle Mitchell and she ended up Best Junior in Breed. I do not know if they stayed for the Junior Group though.

It was so nice to hear from Michelle Smith, breeder of Rashel Fairydust ( Ladnar Moondust ex Rashel Razzle Dazzle),who won a lovely PG bitch class of 12 for her new owners Katarzyna Paplawska at only her 2nd show. How nice for Michelle who has  had many problems at home to be able to go to the show and see this win, and then take time to let me know. Thank you so much

In the challenge for BOB, this went to Melissa but watching the video of the groups, could not see she was short-listed.

Driffield was held on a Thursday at Wetherby Racecourse, and lovely to hear direct from the BCC winner, on behalf of Monika Bardos, whose bitch Ariel took her 2nd CC.

The judge was Dave Gordon (Chynoweth) on just his 2nd appointment for the breed; his first was at National Working Breeds in 2016. The entry for a week day was quite good, about 80+ with about 6 marked absent. Looking at some of the photos it did look a tad chilly though and the ground was a little un-even with some folk having falls but all is well with our exhibitors, as far as I am aware!
His choice for the DCC was the recent winning tricolour of Vanessa Cronk, Int Ch Skabona The Gambler. Taking his 4th CC. He was followed home by John Congdon and Starlenga All That Jazz from Aaronwell. Both winners being featured in these notes recently.
Other winners included, Melissa Lockyer who took PD with her Gataj Out of The Woods, Junior was won by Chantique Magical Mystery for Mrs. Turner. Spl Yearling Had Jackie Dix and Barrenclough Diamond Skies winning. Whilst John & Caroline Tipper took Limit with Tiganlea Turning Blue. Cathy Proctor won the GCD class with Wilmaranna Out of the Blue for Cathbri. Tracy Clare won Veteran with her tricolour, Bluchip Solar Storm of Skyeshelm, so all the main winners were tricolours!

BCC was Monika with Tiganlea Make Good Time, handled as usual by John. This is her 2nd CC and her details were published previously. Melissa Lockyer won Limit with Paradise Girl du Clos de Sea-Wind who also took a CC earlier this year but had to settle for a reserve today. Best Puppy Bitch was Erjon Ebony Jewels.
Other winners included: Sophie Wray-Ramsden who stood alone in Junior with Takhisis Lady of Illusions. Spl Yearling was won by Lynda Boyle with Barrenclough Touch of Silk, John Congdon with Starlenga All My Love to Aaronwell (sister to the RDCC winner)took PG  and Stacy Steven took the GCB class with Cariadhaf Cookies and Cream.

Vanessa took BOB with Potup, Best Puppy went to Melissa and BV to Tracy and Stacy took Best Good Citizens.

Now to show No 15 on our crowded calendar, this was London & Provincial who made a sensible decision to hold their Ch show, Normally in November, outside, at their usual Open show venue at Bradfield. A lovely venue with plenty of space for parking and to exercise dogs, so, perhaps like many, I was surprised to see how low the entry was! Are there too many shows in the space of a short time? Are exhibitors running low on funds? Far too many questions but no doubt there will be answered later.  From all accounts, the normal “Garden Party” atmosphere prevailed throughout the day, with the small committee doing all to ensure that a good time was had by all. Interesting to see that included in the entry were a few NFC dogs and some just coming for a “Day Out” to see what this showing lark is all about. Thanks to all who let me know of their wins and also to Gwen Beadon and Alexis Swain for the full catalogue pages, I really do appreciate them as it does make writing these notes easier.

There was a a good classification of 11 classes per sex, but  having seen the catalogue pages, there were actually only 13 males present from an entry of 22 and 34 bitches from the original 37 entries!

The judges were Andre Scott (Chantique), who last judged in 2018 at Scottish Collie where he officiated over the bitches. His choice for the DCC was none other than John Congdon who won the Open class of 3 with Jive, Ch/Fr Ch Jugband Blues du Clos de Sea-Wind via Aaronwell, winning, I think his 11th CC . Michelle McCann made another long journey down from Scotland and took home the RDCC with Ollie, Oakland’s Blue Style du Clos de Sea-Wind and whose details were given when he took the CC recently at Bournemouth. Best Puppy Dog, at just his 2nd show, was Tiganlea Twist and Turn (Lillyway Latimer at Nithview exTiganlea True Romance) for John and Caroline Tipper, who kindly rang me with the results, thank you so much.

Veteran dog, on his own was the tricolour, Nikal It’s Gud To Be Black VW owned by Shelley Skinner. He is sired by Jambarlas Sent With Luv to Myriehewe out of Amalie She’s No Angel at Nikal and he is now just 10 years young but had to bow the knee to his kennel mate for BVIB

Stephen Clark (Derbypark) officiated over the bitches, he last judged at WECS in 2018.

It was a 2nd CC for Jayne Llewellyn  and her sable, Artzaiak Selina de Salsina, known at home as Keira. Thanks so much to Jayne for letting me know the following: Keira is registered as an import but was, in fact born in the UK but her dam is registered with the Spanish kennel club.  Jayne also confirmed that another of hers, Fridens Xtra Chance for Salsina, (Imp Russia) took 1st in PGD.  Keira’s details were given when she took the CC at the London Collie Club from Jean Catliff and a lovely message from Jayne to confirm this and she won Limit, a class of 4 with one absent.

Standing 2nd to Jayne was Melissa and her Paradise Girl du Clos de Sea-Wind and she won the RBCC.  Norma Larkin won BPB with her Rahlissa Toffee Cake for Denora who stood alone in her class.

Veteran bitch was Samhaven Time is Money for Nikal for Shelley Skinner, so a lovely day for Shelley as she ended up challenging herself for BVIB but lost out to the smooth for BVIS.

Di Collino, (Imaginist) judged the SAC classes for both Rough and Smooth and found her rough winners in: Rahlissa Charmaine with Melayla who won PG with 2 entries and Open(3)was won by Sassari Snow Shimmer for Tudorlyn, there were no puppy entries.

At the end of the day, after some confusion concerning the awarding of BOB to the Roughs, the nominated judge for BIS and Referee, Brian Hull (Lizmark) decided that  Jayne and Keira would be BIS, John and Caroline took home BPIS judged by Brian Hull. Considering the number of issues raised concerning this show and the lack of clarity concerning judging times, perhaps a re-read of the current Rules and Regulations would not come amiss. With the announced loss of CC’s to this club from 2024 will give them time to come up to date and think about the future and perhaps gain a few more members to the committee, especially if they do award Challenge Certificates.
