Breed Notes

Now for another weekend involving a long journey for many as Friday saw Darlington and Saturday, at the same venue, Northumberland & Durham not everyone came to both shows though.

We have had another first time judge, two established judges, a new Champion bitch and 3 more adding a 2nd CC to their previous wins, so I shall elaborate.

Centre stage at Darlington was Joe Smith (Mowgli), who had collies in his youth and is well known in many breeds but, does take the time to attend breed specific seminars and learn about breeds he is to judge, which really does make a change nowadays! and this was his first set of CC’s to our breed.

Dog CC, his second was Brenda Welsh and Karafaye Scotch Blend. A sable who won his 1st CC at Northumberland & Durham in 2019 from Miranda Blake. Sired by Corydon Wings of Victory out of Corydon La Fayvorita Avec Karafaye ShCm and bred by Lorraine Quince. He was born in April 2015 and won from Open. Standing 2nd to him was Pedro, Brooklynson El Dorado, owned by Marianne Benton, Nick and Anne Smith. He took home the RDCC. Bred by Steve and Alison Barrett, he is sired by Shep's Moondance With Jaysur out of Ch Brooklynson Miley Cyrus and already has a CC and as few Rcc’s to his name. The Veteran dog winner was Aldreen Innuendo JW owned by Doreen Pointon, a blue, by Ch Elshajo Armani Moon out of Aldreen Forget Me Not and born in 2009.
The two puppy winners were Phreelancer Phinal Salute for Mrs. C McLarty who won MP and Tiganlea Twist and Turn for John and Caroline Tipper. I am not sure who gained BPD – as no one has contacted me.

In bitches, it was a well deserved 3rd and crowning CC for Eva, now to be known as Ch Jopium Love Heart JW ShCm, owned and bred by Jo Hodges. She took her first CC from Sandra Wigglesworth at Yorkshire in 2019, followed this with a 2nd from Tony Iley at Ayrshire Collie the same year. She is sired by Jopium Stole My Heart at Lingwell out of Riverside Song Venice Queen at Jopium JW (Imp Rom) and this is now our 9th Champion for the year. More congratulations are in order for Jo, as this is the 10th Champion for her small but select kennel and also there have been Champions in all three colours, so very well done, as she never keeps many dogs and is always selective concerning future litters – long may it continue.

The RBCC went to Duna Jones and Josh Blackburn with Erjon Evolving Star, a sable, who won from Post Grad. She was born in May 2018 and sired by Erjon Excelebration out of Erjon Ever So Sweet and if I recall, was BPIB at Crufts in 2019.

Veteran was won by the dual CC winning, Serenlas Obsession owned by Stefani Flower and in the challenge, took BVIB, then stayed and represented us in the group but to no avail.

Lene Newman and Phreelancer Phormal Dress won MP but was beaten for BPB by the well known tricolour, Erjon Ebony Jewels for Duna and Josh.

Joe decided that the newly crowned Ch should be our group rep but under Judge Graham Hill she did not feature but did put up a solid performance there.

Now to N&D who had an entry of 75 making 85 and also 3 NFC for judges, Kevin Young (Sunkap) and Christine Collins (Triburle)
Kevin has not judged Roughs for some time but has actually officiated at LKA in 2000; Midland Counties 2004; Three Counties in 2009 and lastly at Scottish Collie in 2018. He too, used have our breed along with Bearded Collies and a few other but has recently been gaining much success with breeding rabbits, taking quite a few prestigious awards at some big shows!

His choice for the CC was Donald, winning his 2nd CC known officially as Corydon Trump The Lot, which he did today. Sired by Ch Corydon The Ringleader out of Corydon Moonflower. Born in 2016 he took his first CC at Darlington in 2019 from Graham Hill.
The RDCC went to Vanessa and Multi Ch & UK Ch Skabona The Gambler at Chelborn, whose details have been given following his previous CC wins.

Demelewis Silver Spur at Corydon won MP, bred by Maxine Mellish he was competing against the PD winner, Tiganlea Twist and Turn for John and Caroline Tipper and took BPD.

Lenosann Midnight Rascal, a tricolour, won Veteran for Denise & Samantha Vogan. He is sired by Kourika Kosmic Cowboy out of Lanlin Wolves Wonder and  was born March 2013.

Christine Collins judged bitches. She last judged at LKA in 2016 and prior to that at Crufts in 2013. Her choice for the CC, her 2nd, was the winner of Limit, Paradise Girl du Clos de Sea-Wind for Gataj owned by Melissa Lockyer. She already has a CC to her name and a few Rcc’s to add to her ever-growing collection. Bred in France by Giles Mervant, she is sired by Iggy Pop du Clos de Sea-Wind out of Miami Life de Clos de Sea-Wind and she was born June 2019.

Taking the RCC was yesterday’s winner, Jo Hodges and now Ch Jopium Love Heart JW ShCm. Best Puppy bitch was Tiganlea True Hearts Desire who won Puppy. Veteran was won by Ronansprey Midnight Kiss, owned by Claire & Johnny Reid and Terri Brand. A quick thanks to Terri who, throughout the day, put up not only the results but the catalogue pages as well on social media so we could all keep up to date with the winners and others.

I understand that Dave Crapper made many of the final decisions, so the day ended with the bitch taking BIS; Jo Hodges and the newly crowned Eva, took RBIS, Miranda took BOSIS with Donald and John and Caroline took BPIS with Lenosann Midnight Rascal BVIS. Well done to all concerned and continued thanks to my “roving reporters” John, Caroline, Jo White and Duna who all keep me up to date – I could not complete these notes without your input.
