Breed Notes
8th October 2021
Well this weekend and next week is all about Scotland as all roads led to Ingliston and later in the week to Border Union and Ayrshire Collie! Some very intrepid exhibitors packed their cars/vans, loaded up dogs and set off for a 10 day dog show holiday!
Firstly news from Sec Alyson Carmichael concerning the Scottish Collie Club show which, through no fault of its own, due to the closure of halls at Ingliston, have had to change venues and dates. Not an easy task finding a venue in the first place, but worse with a very limited time scale – but they did it and will hold their Ch Show on Sunday 7th November at Geilsland Estate, Geilsland Road, Beirh, Ayrshire. KA15 1HD, which I think is the same venue for Ayrshire Collie and please contact Alyson for schedules and information.
Now to the joint May and August SKC shows, this must have required much planning as both the shows were held on the same day, judging for the Aug show following the first show in the morning.
I must thank my lovely “roving reporters” for keeping me supplied with not only copies of the breed pages, updates throughout the day and at the end of the day a full summary, so, hoping I have not missed any of you out; Thanks to Mae and Joan (Nithview) for the pages. Some may wonder why but one can collect the class info from the main web sites of most Gen Ch show but it is often the exhibitor info and breeding that is required to make these notes interesting. To Jo White, Duna Jones and the duo of John & Caroline who supply news but also many thanks to those elated (but exhausted) exhibitors who do find time to let me know. I really appreciate being able to pass your news on to all.
To summarise, both shows had similar entry figures, 83 and 77 with approx the same amount of absentees at both. By the end of the day, we had a Champion winning more 2 CC’s and 2 BOB, 1 new dual CC winning male, a bitch collecting 2 more Reserve CC wins and a new RCC male and all this came from a first time awarding CC judge and another only on a 2nd appointment for the breed!
The morning show was the re-organised May show, where the judge for this was Mrs. Sue Bird, Bridus. Originally, Sue, based in Sussex, had Finnish Lapphunds but now has interests in many other breeds and is a group judge and becoming quite a well-known judge at many of the shows and this was her first Collie appointment.
Her choice for his 1st CC was “Turner”, a blue merle by John & Caroline’s latest Champion, Ch Tiganlea Tone Down out of Tiganlea Little Trickster who won Open and is known officially as Tiganlea Turning Blue He already has a RCC to his name won at Richmond from Josh Blackburn.
Taking the Reserve CC was another for John & Caroline, in the form of their sable puppy Tiganlea Twist and Turn who won PD as well. Twist is sired by Lillyway Latimer at Nithview out of Tiganlea True Romance and he was born in December last year.
Other class winners were Mae & Joan with Nithview Summer of Rockets (MP); Chantique Magical Mystery for Charlene Turner who won JD; Yearling was won by Caronlea Celtic Traveller with Fivannte for the Donaldson family. Robin Blaikie returned to his former home with Kourika King Pin and won PG whilst more local exhibitors, Morag & Jim McCarte won Limit with Roughrigg Rag’n’Bone Man. Rachel Thorne won Veteran with Triforce Dragon Heart whilst Cath Proctor won Good Citizens with Wilmaranna Out of The Blue for Cathbri.
Now to the ladies, these were headed by Jo Hodges and Eva, the recently crowned Ch Jopium Love Heart JW ShCm taking her 4th CC following on from her crown at the recent Darlington.
Winning PG and the RBCC was Erjon Evolving Star, also a recent winner at Darlington; she is owned by Duna & Josh.
Melissa Lockyer took Puppy with Gataj Good Time Girl and Val & John Geddes annexed Junior, Yearling and Novice with Serenlas Sass’n’Class at Ingledene, bred by Stefani Flower and sired by Ch Ingledene Spirit of Legend out of Serenlas Keeping Faith.
Lorraine Quince took Graduate with Thistlewing Celtic Soul for Karafaye (Karafaye Scotch Blend at Thistlewing ex Yenroc Scottish Harmony at Thistlewing) Limit was won by the sister to Celtic Soul, in the form of Thistlewing Harp String for Brenda Welsh.
Veteran was a nice win for Stefani with Serenlas Obsession whilst Spl Beg went to Siluto Mysterious Girl.
In the challenge for BOB, this went to Jo and Eva, BPIB to John & Caroline with Twist and BVIB to Stefani.
No sooner had the May show passed, the on to October show, judged by Gary Gray (Slatestone) This is his 2nd appointment for Roughs, the first being at Bournemouth in 2019.
Would you believe it, apart from the RDCC, all the major winners were a repeat of the morning show! Turner took his 2nd CC; Eva won her 5th CC whilst Duna & Josh annexed yet another RCC. The winner of the RDCC was Camanna Clearwater, handled by Wilma Brodie for close friends, Sandra Findlay and her son. Wilma has handled this boy frequently and today was helped by her grand-daughter Darci who moved him and I know Wilma wishes to thank Darci for help on the day. This boy, is a blue merle and sired by Ch Erjon Ebony Joker out of Camanna Chinese Whispers and bred by Anne Hassock.
Other class winners in males were similar to the morning show, although not all attended both shows. MPD was won by Corydon Ice Imperial, for Mrs. Raven, John & Caroline won PD, Junior/Yearling/ PG and Veteran were same as morning show. Sophie Wray-Ramsden managed to find time in between winning with her new ASD puppy, to take Good Citizens with Takhisis Dream Weaver.
Bitch classes, again were similar, with Melissa winning PB with Gataj Good Time Girl and Stacy Steven handled Margaret Harrisons Cambrogan Lady of Loch’aber at Cariadhaf to take Junior, whilst Val and her Serenlas Sass’n’Class won Yearling/Novice and Graduate. Duna & Josh won PG and Limit was a super win for Stacy Steven with Cambrogan Blowin’ A Hoolie, known to everyone as Brooke and an earlier litter to the JB winner, by Cariadhaff Crazy Dream our of Cariadhaf Cookies an Cream at Cambrogan. This resulted in an emotional Stacy as she had 2 homebred bitches in the challenge and the addition of her first home-bred KCSB number. Keep going Stacy.
Open was won by Eva and Jo, with Stefani taking Veteran. Glenoak Gold Brocade won Spl Beg for Yulia Danilova whilst Sophie and her Beldones Duchess of Dreams won GCB
In the challenge, a repeat of the morning session with Eva taking another BOB. All of her CC wins have been with BOB, a great achievement.
So, after a long and somewhat muddy day, Jo and Eva returned to the main halls for both groups, along with a a few towels and wet wipes, to represent us. According to Jo, although Eva never put a paw wrong, she was not considered in either and so ended the first two shows for SKC. A delighted Jo contacted me to confirm these results and to say, that although she has attended SKC many times before, since moving to Scotland, how nice it was to be just an hour away from home, so she called in to the local shops and brought in a Fish and Chip supper to celebrate a fantastic day.
