Breed Notes
29th October
Just a few notes regarding Collies before yet another busy weekend, this time in Northern Ireland – more later
Collie Recue have let me know that their AGM will be held on 14th November, at the Princess Royal Hotel, Sheffield, S13 9WG – it will start at 12 noon, Also the Christmas Cards and Calendars will be available by post but they will be attending some of the shows later in the year.
Now to British Collie, who also had their AGM last weekend where long term Secretary Duna Jones gave up her post and is replaced by Margaret Shipp. Who can be contacted on Margaret.shipp1@gmail.com. Duna Jones has now been elected as President of the BCC, and a few other additions to the committee were also made. For full details please see the Club website.
Now to the first of 3 shows, all with CC’s held last weekend, all three shows had a very similar entry between 40-46 each with a few absent at all.
Belfast had their show Saturday with Vanessa Cronk (Chelborn) as their judge. This was her 2nd appointment for Roughs and the first time for both sexes as she only judged Bitches at CC Wales back in 2018.
Her choice for the DCC was the Open winner, Samhaven Ballahanna Banjo, who took his first CC earlier this year at Paignton from Gary Clark. Sired by Ch Samhaven Sound Track out of Samhaven From The Top Drawer (a daughter of Ch Samhaven Detox) and although bred, in Ireland by Liam Kelly, Alison was able to add her kennel name at the front as she bred both parents.
John Congdon made his annual trip from Cornwall to Ireland with a few of his kennel and although he took 2nd in Open with Jive, it was his Limit winner, Starlenga All That Jazz from Aaronwell, handled by John Tipper in the challenge who brought home another RCC for him. Bred in Scotland by the “Starlenga Walker” family, he is sired by Jive, (Ch/Fr Ch Jugband Blues du Clos de Sea-Wind via Aaronwell) out of Nelinka de Remember Our Love at Starlenga (Imp Fra) and this is, I think, his 3rd RCC this year and he is a tricolour, born in July 2019.
The 2 puppy winners were, Evalane Memory of Monty (TAF) who stood alone in MP for Sharon Drewery and the well known Gataj Out of The Woods for Melissa Lockyer who had also made the journey from Tiverton. BPD went to Melissa.
Now to the ladies, taking MP was the tricolour, a recent import for Vikki Burrows, Colour My World von der Ischlerbahn and Puppy went to Erjon Ebony Jewels, handled by Josh for him and Duna.
Bitch CC, from Limit, was a first CC for Tiganlea Too Good To Be True, a sable by Ch Tiganlea Too Good to be Forgotten out of Hazelnut des Vergers de Iacchos (Imp Fra). Owned and bred by John & Caroline, she already has 1 RCC, won back in 2018 from Maurice Haslam at Windsor.
Winning Open was Eva, now Ch Jopium Love Heart JW ShCm for Jo Hodges and she won the RBCC. Her breeding is well known following her recent CC’s and Rcc wins.
BOB went to Alison with Samhaven Ballahanna Banjo and BPIB to Melissa with Gataj Out of the Woods and a great result as Melissa and her sable puppy took Pastoral Puppy Group 4 later in the day from listed judge, Ian Blackshaw.
In the same ring, following the completion of judging, the first of the ICC shows with Jill Oliver (Rixown) took place. Jill is one of our very well established judges with numerous appointments, the last being in 2019 where she judged the bitches at British Collie.
Starting with the puppies and this was a repeat of the earlier show with Evalane Memory of Monty and Gataj Out of the Woods winning their respective MP and Puppy classes. Yearling was won by Ezzmare Tutu God of Dreams and PG went to Peblu Gold Reflection at Savataurus. Liam Kelly won won Limit with his Ballahanna All Bet’s Off and Alison won Open with the brother, Samhaven Ballanna Banjo who then won his 3rd and crowing CC, with his brother standing in Reserve spot with BPD going to Melissa and Veteran dog went to Savataurus’s Only The Lonely
Bitches then followed with the tricolour of Vikki Burrows and another tricolour, (Mad Maisy) or better known as Erjon Ebony Jewels winning their MP and P classes. Yearling was won by Gataj Honey Bee whilst Jo Hodges piloted her recent RCC winner, Jopium Loves To Sparkle with Meryctin to win PG. Limit and the BCC went to Tiganlea Too Good To Be True and the RBCC was the Open Winner, Ch Jopium Love Heart JW ShCm. There were no Veteran ladies entered. BPB was another nice win for Josh and Duna with Mad Maisy – Erjon Ebony Jewels whilst BOB and BIS went to Tiganlea Too Good To Be True, known as Truly.
So, after 2 shows, exhibitors set off for their overnight stops in various cottages, guest houses or hotels ready for an early night and the second ICC show on Sunday.
With a virtually identical entry to the previous day, apart from a few who travelled over later, our judge was Hannah Walder (Hanvale) whose 2nd appointment it was but not her actual entry as she was good enough to come forward from next year as the nominated judge, Robin Searle had to withdraw due to ill health. Hannah last judged at Scottish Breeds in 2018.
Making it 3 from 3, the dog CC went to Alison and her now sable Champion, winning his 4th CC and another BOB. Well done to Alison and a great trip over as I understand she also took BOB in her other breed St Bernard’s – a really worthwhile trip
Taking the RCC was another recently crowned Ch, in the form of “Ollie”, ch Oakland’s Blue Style du Clos De Sea-Wind for Michelle McCann. BPD was another nice win for Gataj Out of The Woods.
In bitches, another reason to celebrate as John Tipper’s Tiganlea kennel annexed yet another CC. Thanks so much to my “Roving Irish Reporters”., John and Caroline who let me know that Ariel is now to be known as UK Ch/ Hungarian and Int Ch Tiganlea Make Good Time JW. She is owned by Monika Bardos and won all her qualifying CC’s this year at: Southern Counties from Toni Jackson, her 2nd at Driffield from Dave Gordon and her crown today. She was handled in the challenge by Mary McNally as John also had his dual CC winning Tiganlea Too Good To Be True also in the challenge as she won Limit. Standing 2nd again in Open was Ch Jopium Love Heart JW ShCm and she also won another RCC - 3 over this weekend to add to her collection of awards.
BPB was Erjon Ebony Jewels, handled by Josh but she lost out for BPIB to Melissa and her dog puppy.
Other class winners at this show were: Evalane Memory of Monty, Ezzmare Tutu God of Dreams RAF, Peblu Gold Reflection at Savataurus and Savataurus One and Only. In bitches, there was Gataj Honey Bee, Call Me A Dreamer in Blue for Ileyda Della Verde Scozia JW and no entry in Veteran bitch.
So the weekend ended with 3 CC’s, for Alison Grainger and Ch Ballahanna Banjo, 3 CC’s for Tiganlea, with sisters, now Ch Tiganlea Make Good Time winning her 3rd and crown and her sister, Tiganlea Too Good To Be True winning 2 CC’s. Melissa annexed BPIB over 2 shows with Gataj Out of The Woods, who also won a Pastoral Puppy Group 4 place and the final BPIB award went to Duna Jones and Josh Blackburn with Erjon Ebony Jewels.
