Breed Notes At 7.15pm on Sunday 13th June, both Chairman, Cas Waterhouse & Secretary finally locked the gates at the Doberman Training Ground venue at Digswell having very successfully, along with many other Committee members and helpers, held 2 Championship shows for the London Collie Club under current Covid issues. They are to be congratulated on this task, not easy and with the current very hot weather and high temperatures, a decision to have all 3 rings under cover was made. This meant that the normal size rings, usually offered at LCC were smaller. Also, an issue with Rabbits meant that the ground was not as even as normal but I have been told that this will be addressed shortly. Past Secretary, the late Frank Mitchell must have been looking down on the wonderful weather, albeit it bit too hot for many and smiled. My grateful thanks to Show Secretary, Julie Sewell, who along with Mum, Penny kept all the results up to date and then, thank you, sent down, 2 fully marked catalogues. The day commenced with Show 1, starting at 9.30am with Tony Leverton (Rhodabern) judging dogs and Jean Catliff (Mallicot) Bitches. Smooth Collies were also scheduled for Geoff Hyde (Londer) and Referee and BIS was Stephen Clark. All with CC status. The entry included 5 NFC, from 122, with 33 Smooth Collies. Tony Leverton, whose last appointment was at Ayrshire Collie in 2015, had an entry of 52 with 6 absent and yet another long but successful journey, from N. Ireland was undertaken by Karen McDevitt. This time with her Veteran boy, UK Ch, Ir Ch Caronlea Lukin’ Black Jnr Ch, JCW15, CW18. If you recall, he annexed the CC at Crufts, from John Catliff in 2019. Sired by Multi-Titled Caronlea Lord of The Dance out of Caronlea Shady Lady. One interesting point is that his sire also won the CC at London Collie in 2013 so it would appear that LCC is a successful show for Karen. Taking the RDCC was Vanessa Cronk and her tricolour, Will, officially known as Chelborn That’ll Do, sired by the late Ch Chelborn Kiss n Tell out of Chelborn Wish List who was last shown at British, 2019, when he took BPD Margo Walker made the long journey down from Scotland alone, as daughter, Louise, although she had finished recovering from Covid but did not make the trip and she piloted their Starlenga Curious George, a sable by Norska De Remember Our Love out of Chantique Cinderella at Starlenga. He was born in July last year and took BPD and then BPIB. Another winner from Scotland was Robin Blaikie with Ch Willowdene Double or Quits at Wassail, and although he took Veteran, had to bow the knee to Karen and Luke for BVIB, He is sired by Rosschell Bobby Dazzler at Wassail out of Wassail Dyna at Willowdene and was born in January 2012. Jean Catliff, last judged bitches at WECS in 2018 and had 65 bitches with 9 absent. She found her CC winner in the Novice bitch, handled by Christine Collins but owned by Carl and Jayne Llewellyn. Artzaiak Selena at Salsina (Imp Spain), at her first show. You may find her breeding interesting as she is a grand-daughter of Jayne’s Crufts 2011 BOB winning, Ch Salsina Stargazer. (Ch Elsamos Star Traveller x Amalie Patience Surprise for Salsina) she is bred by Jose Arumbaru-Duran (who judged at Ayrshire Collie in 2014) Jayne had a lovely day, winning not only MPD with Red Hot Chilli Pepper du Clos de Seawind at Salsina (Imp Fra); 2nd in Junior with Salsina Secret Lovesong and Open with Salsina Share The Love. Taking the RBCC was Anne Hollywood and her Amalie Loves To Sizzle, born in June 2019, she is sired by Ch Amalie Lynmead Live In Lover out of Black n Sassy with Amalie and this is her first major win from Graduate. Now a Veteran, Telforth Sweet Dreams to Corisian JW took her class for the Brooker family from Sunderland. She is sired by Ch Westoak Warlord out of Ch Lynmead Amalie Lucy Locket at Telforth. She also took BVIB and then BVIS. Now to Show 2, with Judges Doris McDade (Lyndale) and Val Tame (Rahlissa) with Dave Weller BIS and Referee. It was a similar entry with some attending just show 1 and others just show 2. With an overall entry of 105 with 6 NFC and 33 Smooth Collies. Doris, who last judged bitches at N&D in 2018 had and entry of 47 with 10 absent and had the pleasure of making up our first Champion of 2021. He is now, Ch Beldones Blue Echo and won from Open. Bred by Brian & Odile Hawkins, he is sired by Ch Samhaven on The Crest out of Salsina Black Lace at Beldones. Born in March 2018, his first CC came from Dermott Timmins (Kynan) at Scottish Breeds in 2019 and a second, later that year from Robin Blaikie (Kourika) at Yorkshire Collie and in between collected a few RCC wins, including the RDCC at Crufts 2019 (to the CC winner at Show 1) He is the first, and let us hope of many, Blue Merles to hold a UK Champion title for Beldones, which means that Brian and Odile now have bred Champions in all three colours. The RDCC went to another blue from Open, the well known Ch/Fr Ch Jugband Blues du Clos de Seawind via Aaronwell (Imp Fra) owned and shown by John Congdon. He will be 8 years young in August this year and is sired by Dazzle Blue Legend de la Chapelle aux Arbres out of Eclipse Totale du Clos de Seawind and he adds yet another RCC to his collection, which must be in double figures now! Minor puppy was a repeat win from show 1 for Jayne & Carl with Red Hot Chilli Pepper du Clos de Seawind at Salsina, Starlenga Gorgeous George repeated his wins from show1, taking BPD for Margo & Louise Walker, Junior was won by Brian & Odile with Beldones Toucher du Bois. Vanessa won her class with Chelborn That’ll Do, Melissa Lockyer, who had entered 7 at both shows, won PG with Perfect Timing du Clos de Seawind for Gataj as he was the only one present, Michelle McCann also came down from Scotland and won classes at both shows with her blue, Oakland Blue Style du Clos de Seawind at Zolkhan. Anne Hassock won Limit with her dual CC winning Camanna Codename. Val Tame, had Rob & Margaret Shipp for her stewards and LCC would like to thank them. Val last judged both sexes at Wkg & Pastoral Breeds of Wales in 2019 and she had 57 entries with 12 absent, leaving just 45 in the ring. RBCC was the winner of Limit, Margo and Chantique Cinderella at Starlenga, sired by Chantique Stardust ex I’m Scarlett Johansson of Moon River for Chantique and she already has 2 CC’s to her name. MP, alone was, Camanna Paulara Cissy Spacek for Anne Hassock, Fridens Be My Lucky at Aaronwell and John Congdon repeated their show 1 win and took BPB, Salsina Secret Love Song won Junior for Jayne & Carl, whilst Barrenclough Touch of Silk took Novice for Dr Lynda Boyle. Amalie Loves To Sizzle, RCC at Show 1, took Graduate whilst Margo took another class with Nelinka de Remember Our Love for Starlenga. Brian & Odile won Open with Beldones Enable and Veteran went to Lexcols Jewel In My Crown for Alexis Swain. Finally, as the show was closing, John Congdon returned to his van and Gazebo, only to find that the special poles for the gazebo had gone missing……if anyone knows or finds them please contact John as soon as possible – I cant think that any collie person would have intentionally taken them so please do double check your gazebo equipment, we can well do without a Gazebo Gate! Many apologies if I have left you out, but maybe a phone call/message would suffice for the future. Carole Smedley |
